Hmmm. Not sure what to say. I only use the probe once a year but it has always worked for me. The probe is supposed to be inserted before any preheat. You did put in probe and food before running the preheat, yes?

Thanks mindstorm. Yes, I inserted the probe before turning on the oven but that should make no difference in whether the probe is recognized.

Anyone else with ideas ?

I had the Bosch 700 series for about 3 1/2 years. The probe function was the first thing to go. I used it 3-4 times, after that it would give me an error message. Never got it fixed. So I just used my Thermapen after that.

You're sure you're using the right probe, I assume. Could you be attempting to use another probe that never came out of it's packaging (like for a microwave or your old oven).
May seem like a stupid question, but I have three probes in my drawer and have grabbed the wrong one for my Bosch a couple of times.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Yes, I'm sure I'm using the right probe - it's the only one I've ever owned. And since I've never owned a probe or cooked anything with one and I've had this oven for 3 years and am just trying it out, it's unlikely that I'd be willing to pay for a service call to get it repaired. I'm guessing it's out of warranty so if it's an easy diy fix I'd like the option of trying it.

It never occurred to me that it might not work so I never even plugged it in until now.

On my Miele you have to really PUSH the probe into place. The first time I also thought it was broken but it just needed a harder shove to get it clicked into the socket. Could that be the problem?

We have a Bosch built in oven, love it but the probe is always on display even after we remove it. It will not go off. I have had probes before but never liked using them. How can I bypass it? I put it in and it says remove so I do but it doesn't recognize and still says remove or invert probe. The oven won't heat past the probe temp. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Model HVL6650UC/07

I had an issue with probe on the benchmark side open oven. I turned the breaker off/on and the problem was resolved.

We have had our Bosch double wall ovens for over 8 years. I have never used the probe but about 4 years ago the probe display came on and will not go off no matter how I insert and remove it. Consequently I can't use the oven to broil or use the self-clean because they will not work with the probe in place. I've tried to reboot the ovens by turning off the power but that has not worked. Fortunately I have the second oven when I want to broil but I miss being able to use the self-clean. Anyone found any solution?

The hole where the probe goes in is probably dirty.

I’ve had my overnight and meat probe combo for a year. Have used it about 3 times and it’s brilliant and easy to use. Recently I did a pyro clean which as a result scotched my door and had to get Bosch our to replace it. Went to use my probe tonight and it’s not working. It’s detects it for a brief moment and turn the sensor on the display goes out. I’ve given up. I’d put a call into bosch to check it but I’ve just sold recently so it’s now the next person. The lesson I have learnt from my experiences and reading and these ovens is dont get the pyro and just get the meat probe next time as a feature as the pyro function has caused several issues.

I have an 800 series Bosch oven. I also encountered your issue. But I tried not to push the connector all the way in to get it to work. You should see the red probe icon on the display.

I, too, have the Bosch double ovens and used the probe for the first time after owning the ovens for 2 years. The first time, it worked fine and the process was very intuitive. I have tried two subsequent times and the probe error code 122 comes up, or the display saying "Insert Probe" shows despite following the outlined instructions. I have had two lengthy conversations with Bosch, along with two with the distributor where I purchased the ovens (second full Bosch kitchens - installed in new homes). The result is a recommendation for a service call ($179) or a probe replacement ($69.60). I am very disappointed with the probe performance, as well as the service support, and will not be purchasing Bosch appliances in the future.

I have the Bosch Benchmark series side opening double oven and a couple of times the probe has stopped registering. I found that the jack in the oven can collect grease on the contacts preventing it from working. A Q-tip or a pipe cleaner with a little alcohol when the oven is cool should dissolve and clean the contacts.

It is possible that the probe is bad, but when I had the issue I tested mine with a multimeter and if it shows resistance that varies when you put it in a glass of hot water, it is probably fine.

I have a Bosch single oven. I had same issue, then when I was pulling probe out, I felt a slight click. I left it partially out, I was then able to set temperture on probe.
