Cooktop (DCS, Bosch?), wall oven, Bosch built-in refrigerator

Gas cooktop: ideally, sealed burners with pretty high BTUs (11K+) on all (or most) burners, while also having decent simmer capabilities. It sounds like DCS with dual-stacked sealed burners might fit the bill at $1200. I had also looked at Capital Maestro, but I have read that the simmer is not as good.

For wall ovens, I am not that picky. The Bosch 500/800 sounds fine, and since we are doing a Bosch dishwasher, I am tempted to go with that. At the same time, I see that Bosch has a gas cooktop, and if we get enough Bosch, there are better rebates.

Background: I was originally looking at 30" ranges, then 36" cooktop with double wall oven. But now I am considering a gas cooktop with single wall oven and Breville smart oven - if the wall oven is under the counter, perhaps under the cooktop, then we gain additional counter space.

Questions:

(1) Any more feedback on DCS cooktop vs other options?

(2) Will the DCS (or other) work over a wall oven? I looked at the manuals and it looks okay.

(3) Bosch 36" built-in fridge: I am wincing at the cost of a Subzero, so I am interested in comparisons to Liebherr, Kitchenaid and other built-ins. I wouldn't get the Thermador over the Bosch for the price difference.

I have the Thermador built-in fridge (we wanted a paneled front, which wasn't available on the Bosch). With one exception, , we very much like the fridge - the one exception being that the produce drawer is very shallow (top to bottom) - there is no way you could fit a head of iceberg lettuce (it's barely big enough for a full stalk of celery and a few apples).

on the Thermador bottom freezer in the refrigerator the shallow bottom drawer is the meat/cheese keeper drawer. The 2 deep drawers above it are the veg / fruit drawers.

Good luck with yours theanimala. I'm with you on the regular Electrolux over the Icon. To correct some of my earlier comments, I looked at the regular Electrolux again at Lowes last night. It does have a grill below the control panel that vents directly out into the room and there are vent holes at the top and bottom of the door that apparently draw air from the kitchen down between the door panels and out the bottom. I guess this is to keep the door cool??? Then I went to look at the other ovens on display. All have some venting at the top but many are smaller than the one on the Electrolux and some have small louvers to direct it up or down. Most of the ovens, including my Dacor, also have slots above the oven box (between the broiler and the control panel) that line up with slots in the section of the door when the door is closed. It looks like the air flows from above the oven box, then down between the door panels and out the bottom. Does anyone know if there's a major difference in functionality between the two methods? I'm pretty much sold on the regular Electrolux as long as it doesn't make the kitchen significantly hotter than other models. As to my concern about the continuous gap between the glass panels on the Icon door, I had to laugh when I justlooked at my Dacor oven and it had the exact same thing. ALL the ovens have vents, thus the ability to get gunk between the layers of glass but this does give a little easier access. I guess reading a post about someone getting gunk between the glass of their brand new Meile made me a little paranoid. OTOH, the glass on my oven door is black so you wouldn't be able to see any gunk between the panels anyway. I'd still be a little nervous about all that open access to glass on the Icon.

I am building a house and am trying to decide on appliances. I was all set for GE appliances since I get a discount (I work for GE), but I want to get the best products (within reason). We decided to get the GE Monogram Induction cooktop (36"). I can get it for about $1000 than a comparable Miele cooktop. We need wall oven and microwave too. Either 27" or 30". The wall. I was going to get the 27" Monogram oven and 27" Monogram Advantium oven. Then I came across Bosch ovens. How good are they? Advantium type light based cooking is not a must for me but convection cooking is (in the microwave and oven). I saw that Bosch has a combination wall oven (30-Inch 800 Series Combination Oven). It has a microwave on the top with convection and a regular oven in the bottom with convection. This is about the same price as what I would pay for a 27" monogram advantium + 27" monogram wall oven. I have never owned a Bosch before. Also, the oven stack is right next to the refrigerator. I already have a refrigerator which is a GE profile french door. How will the Bosch oven look next to the GE refrigerator. Also, is the Bosch dishwasher better than the GE monogram dishwasher?

Welcome Heather, In real life, you won't have much,if any, beeping. Don't lock the controls. That is silly and a cya reaction to your question. I have Bosch but believe there won't be any appreciable difference. The guts are made by the same ppl. Convection in both ovens is more important, useful, than flex induction. Here's my experience. Pots of all sizes work on all hobs, except possibly for those that might be too small. It still works if the pot is not centered on the hob. My pots are sometimes off center and partly off the hob and it still works and works exceptionally well . If it works, it works well. I have taken pots off the hob to add water under the faucet and it works again when I place it back on the hob. Granted my faucet is just a swivel away. Flex sounds so appealing but it just is not necessary unless, possibly, if you want to bridge something, say a huge roaster. And even then I am not sure you cannot monkey with something. At our cottage, with a gas/stove, I might move a pan partially off to control heat and that's monkeying in my book. I use the convection feature in my double oven Bosch for cookies and breads which is about all I bake. So I would not trade double convection for what I see as an unnecessary but sexy sounding flex. Couple of things re induction to help with the learning curve. Rest your finger and don't press. And, use boost to attain aboil, not to maintain a boil. Don't worry or even think about power sharing.

Considering whether to purchase Bosch 500 series wall oven, built-in microwave, 500 series cooktop and downdraft. Island application limits ventilation options. Have read reviews about the stainless cooktop scorching and dirt (effluent?) build-up between the glass panels on the front of the wall oven. Anyone have experience with these products?

Jackvis, I'm out of the country right now (writing this from my hotel in Cusco, Peru) but I have the 30" and only one drawer above the "deli" drawer. I'll post a picture when I get home.

Bosch is coming out (in April) with an all new "higher end" line called Bosch Benchmark. It includes a really nice looking side-swing wall oven and a Miele look-alike cooktop (with the linea grates) It is dual-stacked with 20,000BTU! Pretty rare in a cooktop. It is definitely tops on my list for our remodel.

We have the Bosch 800 36" gas cooktop in stainless (NGM8654UC) and we're very happy with it. What's nice about the Bosch is the layout that gives more room to the center burner, which is 18,000 BTU on the 800. If you want more than that, then you should follow nadianyc's suggestion to look at the Benchmark line with 20k burner.

We finished our project last year, but if we were doing it this year I would definitely look at the Benchmark. That new wall oven looks great, and Bosch will now offer a more integrated looking convection micro also.

Strange, I thought the Bosch 800 NGM8654UC had a 17K BTU center burner because that's what it says on ajmadison, but now I see 18K everywhere else. It looks like the 36" cooktop will be around $1550 which is not too much more than the 800 series MSRP $1300, but the single wall ovens will be closer to $3K, which might be too much additional $$.

Do you think there will be rebates or sales after the Benchmarks come out in April (on Benchmarks on on Bosch in general)?

I'm now leaning towards Bosch for cooktop, dishwasher, and single wall oven. Built-in refrigerator too, if I'm convinced about paying a premium for built-in vs a counter depth (Kitchenaid, for example).

I'm also not sure how to avoid a Bosch microwave while avoiding a strange mix in the wall oven cabinet (if in the wall). We had a convection microwave before, and while I reheat things in it all the time, I never used it as an oven, so a cheap microwave seems like the best idea. I'm at a loss where to put the MW, though.

i have had a 36" dcs gas cooktop for about 6yrs that i love. it works well, simmers very well! good price!
