need a low-cost microwave - under-counter - 24" cabinet
Comments (27)I've purchased the LG 1.5 CU.FT. COUNTERTOP MICROWAVE WITH EASYCLEAN LMS1531ST WxHxD=21 7/8" x 12 19/32" x 17 7/32" It was on sale for CAN$150 at Future Shop (with free shipping). That will just fit in the interior width of the cabinet, which is 22.5". I am planning a solution similar to the blogger's one that I posted above (on Apr 2, 14 at 15:22). I will mount it as high as possible for optimal ergonomics, with most venting going under the unit. Here is a link that might be useful: LG 1.5 CU.FT. Comments (22)You're right about Sharp, Taggie. And yet another example of the fact that a huge majority of appliance sales people aren't to be relied upon for accuracy. Sharp makes ALL MW drawers. Those sold by others are simply re-badged and have a large markup to go with it. I trust what I read here from actual users who aren't working on a manufacturer kickback of the month, like sales people, for my appliance info. I've melted butter beyond the melt stage to explosion more than a few times in my drawer. I've also exploded a couple of other messes. Its really not that hard to clean. Wipe up the sides and bottom, then lean down and look up. You can see almost all the roof like that. And if you don't want to lean, wipe methodically back and forth blindly, working your way front to back. That works also. Mine has been in use (and misuse) for 14 months now. No smells. No issue. It looks as good today as the day I bought it. I'm VERY happy with it....See MoreMicrowave inside pantry or under counter - will we hate it?
Comments (20)We rebuilt our existing pantry to include a space for our microwave. It's just a shallow closet (about 18-inches deep), not walk-in. We pulled out the old pantry and drywall above to create a space that went nearly to the 9-foot ceiling. We replaced the original door (a standard 36-inch-wide, 7-foot-tall door) with three sets of double doors. Below the second set of doors -- just slightly lower than counter height -- we have an open shelf: that's where the micrrowave is. It's a bit out of the main traffic path of the kitchen but only a few steps away from the main activity zones. We debated putting the MW behind some kind of doors (either swing up or down) but decided we use it often enough -- probably 3-4 times a day, mostly for reheating -- that having to open doors each time would be irritating. So far I'm loving not having the MW on the counter (where it was before). And access and usability have not been a problem....See MoreMicrowave / Toaster combo under counter?
Comments (4)I looked and looked for such and what i found was expensive and had marginal reviews. I gave up and gave in to the idea I needed a small microwave and a small toaster oven. I found the microwave at Best Buy - it's an LG and was $99 and works great and is quite unobtrusive up against the cabinet for the refrigerator. I bought the smallest Breville toaster oven. Expensive? Oh yes! But it's the first toaster oven I've had 52 years that actually makes great toast and nicely toasted english muffins!...See Moregbsim1
