Need under counter microwave help
Comments (2)Weissman, thanks for the correction. You seem to have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to appliances. The fact that you own the PEM31 puts another check mark in that column. We use our MW for reheating about 85% of the time but occasionally we're avid cooks and have dinner parties for up to a dozen people. I just don't want to get caught short (pun intended) with the limited capacity of the GE. The Sharp R-1214 looks great but the feedback on Amazon is not the greatest. FWIW, Consumer Reports notes Sharp has the worst reliability of listed MW's by far. That's why I'm shying away from it....See MoreWho has (or seen) under COUNTER microwave that's not the Drawer
Comments (30)Here you go Tracy.... have been waiting to post pics of our refresh until I get my backsplash installed next week. We were replacing an undercounter Amana from the 80's (also with a drop down doon). The KA fit the old space almost perfectly and the drawer would have required some modification. As a result of this being a retrofit, it's probably and inch or so lower than we would have put it if we had been building from scratch. I've liked having the mw undercounter for all this time.... very few upper cabs and I love the lower location. Always dislike lifting hot things down from eye level when I'm at other's houses! Not sure if you can see, but in the last pics, I tried to show the "cheat sheet" that you can see when the door is ajar that helps you remember how to work the different settings....See MoreMicrowave inside pantry or under counter - will we hate it?
Comments (20)We rebuilt our existing pantry to include a space for our microwave. It's just a shallow closet (about 18-inches deep), not walk-in. We pulled out the old pantry and drywall above to create a space that went nearly to the 9-foot ceiling. We replaced the original door (a standard 36-inch-wide, 7-foot-tall door) with three sets of double doors. Below the second set of doors -- just slightly lower than counter height -- we have an open shelf: that's where the micrrowave is. It's a bit out of the main traffic path of the kitchen but only a few steps away from the main activity zones. We debated putting the MW behind some kind of doors (either swing up or down) but decided we use it often enough -- probably 3-4 times a day, mostly for reheating -- that having to open doors each time would be irritating. So far I'm loving not having the MW on the counter (where it was before). And access and usability have not been a problem....See MoreUnder counter microwaves and beverage coolers
Comments (15)We have both an undercounter microwave and a beverage fridge. I bend down a little for the m/w controls, but 99% of the time I'm using the same buttons - open/close, stop/pause and the numbers to set time - I know their location now, so I just knuckle the panel and I'm set. The beverage fridge, I do have to go into a full deep-knee bend to grab things, but it's an alcohol-only fridge, and I use it a lot less than if it had, say, bottled water or if I stored juice/soda for children in it. BTW, we ended up with a beverage fridge instead of wine fridge because Spouse is a big beer drinker, and most of the wine-fridge racks had slats that were too widely spaced to hold bottles of beer. Even 25-oz bottles of many microbrews and imports are skinnier than wine bottles, and slipped right through the slats when we tested empties at the appliance store. We have the obligatory few bottles of wine on the slats, removed one glass shelf so as to accommodate taller beer bottles, and the fridge works fine for our needs....See Morexedos
