Tub/shower combo or tub and shower stall
Comments (15)I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. Comments (4)once you install the cement board (so that it sits above the tub flange), fill in that channel with thinset, and let it harden. once hard, go ahead and install your Kerdi, so that it's sitting no more than 1/8" off the tub. Then you can seal it with Kerdi-fix. That's the "book" explanation. If it were me, I'd use the same color siliconized latex caulking as my grout and seal it with that. Reason being that then you wouldn't have to worry about the color of the Kerdi-fix sticking out from under the tile....See MoreKohler Greek tub as tub/shower combo
Comments (18)Wow, thanks bumble doodle! Tt is great to know that the tub works well as a shower. We are tall too--at least most of us (two of my teenage daughters are twins and one is 5'2" and the other is 5'10", so maybe the short one complains a bit but that's ok, since she complains about everything!) We are getting the non-jetted version. Also, I am hoping that building the deck at the front will help with the water spray. I am pushing the tub back into an alcove under the window the long way (so we get into the tub at the 32" side rather than from the 48" side) and we are trying to go without shower doors in order to make the bath feel open. With a deck, we buy a few more inches of length to help avoid water on the floor. We may not succeed and will put a panel on if we have to. Any thoughts on this?...See MoreHeight of tub for bathtub/shower combination?
Comments (4)Whether you sit down for a bath or stand for a shower, you have to get into it and out of it the same way. Are you going to have any grab bars nearby? That would be important for safety either way. But with our deep tub, we are not having a standup shower. It will be a handheld sitdown operation, yet we will still have to get in and out of the tub safely, by standing and holding a grab bar. If you have not closed in all the walls surrounding your freestanding tub, be sure the contractor adds blocks behind the walls in the appropriate spots to securely mount grab bars in several positions. I would think the width of the tub is more important in determining whether you can comfortably and safely stand up for a shower in your tub. Since ours is a clawfoot slipper tub, we omitted a standup shower feature. Even so, we still have to deal with getting in/out of the tub....See Moredivotdiva2
