Wetland signs on property

So last year we bought a some land (34 acres) in albany ny, about 1/2 the property is wetlands, mostly in the back. Now I am in the process of getting a building permit to put our house up , the town planning department will not sign off on the permit unless we put 7 signs up marking the wetland boundary . Now, we have had two surveys done and both marked the wetlands, so we are quite aware of where they are. The signs are 9"x15" on a 4' sign with a 3' footing and we will have 2 of them in our backyard close enough that we have to look at them everyday . The house is not encroaching on the 100' border for the wetlands and our house will be the only one on the property. Has anyone ever heard of this before or have any ideas to get around it.
We could understand the signs if we were going to develop the land and put multiple houses on it but it seems overkill to put signs up on our private property

Thanks Aaron
