I have had my fire engine red (actually, it's called "Little Red Wagon") 48 inch Bluestar for about ten days in our new home. I have received countless compliments on it. People feel it has character and is a great departure from stainless steel. I absolutely say go for the burgundy. It is a beautiful color and if your heart is set on it, you will always be disappointed that you played it safe with stainless steel, which is what most of the world owns.

By the way, the various subs who worked on our house had widely varying opinions on my red range. Now that it is in, they all agree it looks very nice--even those who thought I was nuts. And, FWIW, burgundy is much safer than bright red!

I have a black/red 48' Bluestar. I was very nervous also and went back and forth as to the color, I just didn't know which color. I'm very happy with it and I know the color will stay fresh for me for many years.

I also received winced looks from workers until they saw it installed with everything else. Go with your instinct, you'll love it.

Mine is black and I love it.

I love my French Blue (almost Navy) Lacanche. There's nothing trendy about it. It's beautiful. If you stick to a classic color and you really like it, you'll be fine.

And, you can always have it repainted something less wild like black if you really regret it. (No offense to black BS people--it's gorgeous in black, too!)

Like you said, you're spending a lot of money here. So why not get something you love?

I agree with everyones comments. I am all about colored ranges. I think it's a timeless European look. Besides, you can always modernize a room by changing lighting, paint, flooring.

I don't remember where I first saw a red range, but I have wanted one since before high school graduation. I think it may have been a picture I saw during French class.

The tough choice for me is not red or stainless... it's which red!

I think you will regret it if you give up the color. I happen to love burgundy and consider it a neutral in my world. ;-) I will have a whole wall of burgundy cabinets. Your burgundy range will be gorgeous.

I went with a color on my Bluestar too. It didn't come out quite like I thought, and is brown in some lights, and rather purplish in others. I still love having the color. Remember that it really is a fairly small part of the range that is the color. The panel where the knobs are is stainless and the top is cast iron, so the color isn't overwhelming.

I love color on appliances, but I don't think its accurate-- or a compliment!-- to say things like 'burgundy is a neutral'.

A neutral is a color that looks equally good [or bad] with any other color. They are by definition bland and statement-free. They have their place, obviously, but so does strong vibrant color!

housecrazy, what do you mean it didnt come out the way you expected? Did they mess up the color or did you expect the color to be different? What color did you get? Thanks

I have a black BS and I love it. I wish I had been daring enough to order a less "neutral" color. The red is gorgeous. I think Burgundy will be wonderful too. I would go for it.

I have 2 white Bluestars -- and they look great! I strongly considered getting black or cobalt blue, but chickened out because the ranges are not near each other and I didn't want them to become competing focal points. If your range is a focal point in your kitchen, get a vibrant color; burgundy sounds terrific!

A neutral does not have to be blah, and it's not the definition to me...Which I think is clear in what I said, as was the idea that I consider it a compliment or a positive thing. A neutral is a basic...A favorite staple, a starting point. I happen to love burgundy and love using it as a 'neutral,' as I said, "In my world," which no one else has to agree with. I do think it looks equally good with almost any color. I've used it successfully with greens and eggplant/aubergine types of purple. I'm now using it as well with light gray and golden tan. My sister uses it with sage and pumpkin. It can look striking with black or navy. The point is, to get back to the OP's original concern, I think it's a wonderful choice, and will go with varying decor, equally well...It need not be limiting.

Vitta--I chose the color from the fandeck of Bluestar colors. It looked darker and more brownish than red/purple on the sample, but on the larger surface of the range, there was considerably more red/burgundy/purplish tones (I really don't know exactly what to call it). Everyone who comes to visit says "what color is that exactly" (which is probably a good thing in my book--it means it's one of a kind). Anyway, they didn't mess up the color--it's just hard to choose a color based on a 1" x 3" sample. I believe the color was "Schwartzrot" or "black/red" on the fandeck. By the way, the dealer told me it would be a month for the custom color, but it was actually 8 weeks, so make sure to plan for that.

Unfortunately, colored appliances is not a trend. Trends in housing tend to be about a hundred different shades of off white. Blah! I have a signal blue 36" Bluestar and I love it! It's the focus of the kitchen. Everyone has to walk over and touch it. They love it. My sister-in-law just bought a new house but her kitchen looks like every other kitchen on the block. Use color, you will love it!

housecrzy: the color I was interested in was called weinrot (Im calling it amy winehouse!!!) I know what you mean about the swatch being so small!! I trying to match it with the Viking burgundy color so I put this little tiny swatch up to the stove and hoping and praying that it will be somewhat the same color!!!!

Vitta--I looked at that color too--should be nice!

I think that perhaps the colors tend to come out a little brighter than they show on the chips. I base that on my own experience, and some comments that I've seen from other posts here. Don't know if that is helpful at all. It's hard if you are trying to match it to something else!

vitta - I happen to have a BS fandeck and looked up your color which means "wine red" and think it's gorgeous! You're right, it's rich looking! My BS is on order in "signalschwarz" which means "signal black". Love the colors rather than just more stainless steel!

I remember my grandfather telling me that white appliances were just a trend and would date a kitchen. He and my grandmother got some nice avocado appliances years ago - they're timeless. ;)

I tell my customers to do what they want to do. It's YOUR kitchen, do what you like! Don't worry about trends, or what everyone else is doing. :)

However, having said that, as long as it matches the cabinetry & other colors in the kitchen, I say go for it!
