Shower Hoses for Handheld?

Looking at the Grohe handheld showers and am wondering what your preferences are for the hose. Is there an advantage to the metal or do you prefer plastic? Any cleaning issues with either material and what about twisting?

Also which handheld do you like the most, the movario, the relaxa plus, or any other style Grohe? Too many choices and really no place to see them. The Expo in Michigan is gone.

I bought the metal hose, the longest one available. I think it was 79" or something like that. No cleaning woes. The length is good for reaching all corners of the shower.

We have the Relaxa head, no complaints. I'd get it again. We've had it for a couple of years, no drips out of the hose fittings.

The hose stays flat against the wall, too, no twisting and bowing out into the shower space.

Another advantage to the metal is that it is a little heavier, which theoretically should make the long loop stay closer to the wall during non-use instead of kinking/twisting up and pushing out into the shower space ... i.e., it will lay flatter. (we have the metal)

A little maintancnce might help... When we're finished in the shower we squeegee off the walls and dry the hand-held shower, hose and chrome fixtures with a dry microfiber towel. Keeping things dry should help you a lot. The ounce of prevention, pound of cure, kinda' thing. I'd use a mild bleach/water solution (1 qt. water and 1-2 t. bleach) for cleaning mold - spritz it on the hose, or spritz it on a cloth and wipe down the hose to clean it. If you thoroughly dry the hose after each use, you should be able to prevent much of the problem to begin with. It sounds like you must have a very humid environment... If you aren't using your ceiling vent fan during showers, that would help remove moisture; and if it's under-performing, you may want to think of replacing it with one that is capable of removing and venting the moisture. -Grainlady

You can buy an adapter that fits between the shower head and shower arm which will allow a handheld shower. This is a 1/2" NPT. You can even buy a handheld which includes the adapter and is also a holder for the handheld. If you buy an instock handheld shower at Home Depot or Lowes you can try it out and if you don't like or it does not fit and can return it. Hope this helps, Dan Martyn

"What is it about this myth that causes it to refuse to die?" The fact that it's not a myth. They do manufacture products exclusively for the big box stores that look just like the better versions. Sometimes they even have the same name. For example, Delta's kitchen faucet Foundations, #10900LF is listed on Delta's site as "only at Lowe's". They also have a Foundations faucet #B1310LF that does not have that designation. As millworkman said, if the item numbers are the same, then they are the same faucet. But just having the same name does not mean they are the same or manufactured to the same quality. I think you will be better served with a slide bar. Your grandson will not be 5 any longer next year, or any year after that.
