I only have one bathroom for the family (well there is a bathroom downstairs too but that one is tiny and a lot less accessible) but I have no intentions of decorating it in a cutsie way. It's just a normal bathroom with a vintagey feel to complement the architecture of my 120 year old house. I don't think your bathroom needs to be decorated to reflect the fact that kids use it in order to be a "family bathroom."

Although this isn't my bathroom, you may get some useful ideas from it Nadine. It has a nice, open layout, although I think the shower is a bit close to the commode. It's definitely a bathroom that you don't have to worry about the kids destroying. :-)

I really like the toilet paper holder in that bathroom with the open layout.

I am trying to plan the same thing. We added a 2nd floor to our house and the bathroom upstairs will be for us and the kids (2 and 4). I am thinking of doing something grown up, but with cool colors. Like maybe small glass tile on the floor with enough grout that it's not slippery. And a cottage style vanity. That's as far as I've gotten! We will have a 1/2 bathroom in our bedroom that will be much more elegant. I just want it to be happier looking than traditional style, dark wood furniture vanities you see so much of. Good Luck!

That is a bit of a reach, isn't it? I liked the bottle opener in the extreme right of the picture.

The one linked to below has the toilet paper kept within reach, nice and handy, while the raised toilet takes the term 'sitting on the throne' to new 'heights'. The 2x4 bracing the tank might be a giveaway that this is a nice spot to sit, lean back and relax while waiting for the spin cycle to end.

Joe, you oughta come up this way, to Maine. Until a little better than a decade ago, there were many areas where you didn't need a permit for ANY kind of construction. Simply go down to the lumber yard, pick up some 2x4's, plywood, Liquid Nailz (?!?), and go for it.

These bathrooms musta been in a magazine like Nightmare Weekly or something. The one with the mirrors.....yowza! I think I'd rather sit between a washer and a drier.

What's that? Mirrors, you say? Here's a bathroom that has every wall and ceiling surface mirrored. I hesitated to post these, because they're most unflattering to the photographer. With all those mirrors, you'd think I could have primped a bit. [lol]
