OT...An Angel Made An Oil Delivery Today!

The oil delivery truck just left.. Praise God!

He slowly walked down our drive and said 'no way can I bring bring down the truck'! Even after putting sand and rock salt and had more snow removed to widen the drive..he didn't want to take a chance getting stuck on the ice, because that's what happened on his last run. The company had to send a 'Wide Loader' to pull him out. Sooo, he said I'll try to do what I can. He brought his truck along the side of the house where the property drops steeply... DH made a tow line for him to grab on to and he walked down (waist deep) in the snow pulling the hose down with him. Guess what?? it was short by half a foot! So He and DH chipped ice and snow away on the hill, and kept yanking the hose to extend it some more. With fingers crossed and lots of praying..it just made it!

If this good hearted - 'Angel-like Man' didn't have it in him to want to bother, he could have easily just driven away..but today, God sent the right delivery man to us.

So now with the snow falling again...let it snow...let it snow..we've got oil... Whew!

I would say you have had 2 angels sent to you, the neighbor and the delivery man.
It would have taken a pretty cold-hearted delivery person to drive away and leave you with no oil delivery, but he still went over and above what was required. I'd say your prayers were answered, both in the driver and the length of the hose!!

TFS the good news. It is supposed to snow more here today also.

Do you think Phil got the forecast wrong? LOL

Mircles do still happen! Thank the Lord for this good man. I am so glad that you got oil, and just hope and pray that your electricity holds. I just heard where you are getting hit with another storm. It is 40 degrees here today and overrcast, but it feels like spring after all the dnow and cold we have been enduring. Saatay warm and safe. When I first contacted Kim about roses, he gave me a reading list of books written by several very successful breeders. My favorite author is Jack Harkness, but LeGrice is right up there. Harkness's book Roses is a very complete and insightful study of species roses and their hybrids. You can learn a lot about what traits various species roses have brought into the rose gene pool. LeGrice ... is incredible. If you want to learn about bloom color ... read LeGrice. The other books were equally as important as they gave me a sense of the timeline of the development of modern roses, and studying them gave me even more information about the traits found in the rose family. Cultural information may be "dated" and biased because both of these breeders were from England, but the knowledge they share about the botany of the plants is detailed and very much worth learning. I read these books periodically because every time I read them, I am bringing more personal knowledge and experience with me and see the information with "new eyes". I also made my own lineage trees by hand because HMF did not have the lineage report feature online. Even though I can go through a lineage report on HMF and understand it, I think the exercise of doing my own lineage reports and looking up the species roses and the other roses included in the lineage gave me a deeper understanding of the make up of the rose. A seedling may look like it is a good rose, but you really won't know if it is a worthy cross until you have carried it forward for several years. A juvenile plant often performs differently in many ways than a more mature plant. It takes time to learn how to see roses through a "breeder's eyes". You are on your way, but you have only had the opportunity to touch the surface of what it takes to breed good roses. Also, it takes time to reach the point where you can learn from the best teacher of all things roses .... the rose. I love your enthusiasm. You'll need it to help you to meet your goals. I may be back here for some recommendations for more "lovable" hoyas once a few things settle down. I really love the flowers, and if I had the space, there would be more hoyas in my life. My obsession tends toward succulents (I work on the top floor of glass building, and sit next to a south-facing wall... it's almost TOO MUCH sun) and orchids (because I'm crazy ... is there any other answer?). The next few months will, I hope, see me moving to a new apartment, where I can hopefully have more dedicated space for my little green friends (Greentoe, I live in Sunnyside, just next to Astoria!). I'm glad I took that photo above, because looking at it made it more obvious that the darn cat had uprooted a piece and left it in the pot (see the more withered bit on the left?). It has since been saved. This weekend it goes out on the patio. It is has lasted long enough in the house, poor thing!

Hi everyone! Don't know what happened to my last version of this posting. I had it all written turned around and it was gone :(. Well my brugs are here at home. The very sweet woman who gave this to me and her equally nice husband who dug up and put into my truck each one of these trees made me feel warm and welcomed. Kristi, the woman who gave this to me even brought out toys for my kids so they wouldn't get bored. Not hand me downs - which are prefectly good in my book too - but new, in the box toys she keeps around for just this kind of event. When greeting with this kind of generosity, a simple thanks does not seem enough but she didn't want anything in return. What I brought home were trees taller than me, taller than the inside of my greenhouse. Well they've been well trimmed now and I have cuttings ready to go. Here's what I have to share: Rosamond Versi Peach - limited amount Mayan Magic Maya Arlene's pink Beauty Golden Lady - nice double - but be warned it has a virus. The virus does not spread easily but you have to clean your pruners before you go near another brug. It's lived side by side with the other brugs with no ill effects and grows nicely anyways. I just want you to be warned. Unnamed seedlings of her own crosses. I didn't get butterfly or the big Creamsickle :(. Someone else beat me to it. I can't really complain too loud because the person who got it was a friend who has given me sooooo many plants. Jaye - what kind of truck did you get? DH loves trucks. We've had quite a few. For anyone who wants one post it here or email me with which ones you want. Canna - sorry to hear about your kitty! I had that happen to one once. She survived fine but what a fright! Just got our first deliver from "Home Chef". Everything looks good. We have a choice, tonight of Oktoberfest Chicken Schnitzel or Steak with Brown Butter Bordelaise. Home Chef seemed to have the most "family with kids" friendly choices. I recommend you invest in ice packs. There's clearly money to be made in ice packs. I'm having knee surgery soon, and since I shop and prepare dinners during the week, we are trying this out. We've always boasted to hungry kids that we've never lost anyone to starvation in our home, and we are not going to start now. I'm not a menu planner, so these pre-packed meals are going to be a huge help, and we'll get to try new recipes that I would never consider trying. The recipes come with the meals, with holes already punched for the binder to save them! The local grocery stores also deliver, so breakfasts, lunches, snacks and desserts will be taken care of. And we have milk, some produce, etc delivered by the "milkman" every week. Of course I'll be a screaming idiot, having to be housebound for so long, but good food should help keep me sane.

There definitely are Earth Angels, and you got visited by two of them this week!! Wooo Hoooo, what a huge relief.

Given everything we hear and see on the news now days it sure is refreshing to hear there are still 'angels' out there. So glad that you have oil now to hopefully last you till warmer days .....

Candy..you're absolutely right 2 Angels came our way, and we are so grateful for both of them.
I agree, it would have taken a cold-hearted delivery guy to drive away. The Oil company was preparing us for the worst telling us if the driver feels he can't do it...then you'll have to wait. We didn't want to leave the house today because we wanted to talk to him when he came and DH wanted to at least explain the situation. In the past, we've had guys come and then drive by phoning into the Company saying they couldn't do it.

Janet, as soon as the driver was able to reach the tank...I was Thanking The Lord over and over!! You're right though with the electricity...we'll just keep the prayers going in that dept! I can't believe how many people have been effected by these storms.

Karen...I definitely do believe in 'Earth Angels'. I was saved by one many years ago and also my neighbor..
I'm just so grateful I'm not running out of them!! lol

lynne..I feel the same as you about hearing so many bad stories about people..it IS refreshing to know good ones still exist ..problem is we don't hear MORE about them since
the media tends to dwell on the negative.

Jane, I'm so happy to hear you have oil now. This is wonderful news. I agree, you were sent angels and it sounds like they came at the right times or it may not have happened. What a story this is!

What are they predicting for snow now? Hope you stay safe no matter what the weather does. It rained and our snow is almost gone. Wish you could be that lucky.

I was telling DH today, how you take everyday things for granted until it's threatened.
As far as the weather we had snow earlier today then it changed to rain..There's more snow for later in the week...I'm hoping they're wrong.
You're lucky the rain washed most of your snow away.
I'll be so happy when that happens here.

Jane, what a blessing that he was the one driving the delivery truck today! I can't even begin to imagine trying to deal with the weather that parts of the country have been seeing. We've had snow here before of course, but nothing compared to up north. Stay warm, my friend!

Oh Jane, that is wonderful! When the weather warms up, you will have to invite him and your caring neighbor over for a homecooked meal at one of your wonderful tables!

Talk about teamwork and answered prayers! I'm so thankful you don't have to worry any more.

Oh thank goodness! This ice has been awful! It is just not melting.
I awoke to an oil delivery this morn. Over 200 gal @ 4.00, ouch! But not having it is worse.

What great news, Jane! I've been worried about you and know (from recent experience) how stressful it is worrying about the what-ifs. That delivery guy surely was an angel to care so much. I'm happy that it's now taken care of.

it's been take care of..the disposition of that man was so 'pure & sweet'..laughing all the while he struggled through the snow...Amazing individual.
