Always on a weekend when you can't reach anyone, isn't it? I don't have any advice, but to wait before cutting anything. Just a random thought, but maybe they sent the wrong tub? I know it is so frustrating tub shopping. You can never see the model you want in real life. We also have a Toto (different model) and I did as much research as I could, but basically held my breath and hoped it was what I wanted when it arrived.

Thanks...my son was dying to have the box and I said noooo....I am going to wait and call TOTO on Monday and see the ramifications of cutting off the legs. I have figured out that if we remove all the door casings, we might get it in the bathroom but the tub would still be too tall for the frame. So then we would have to somehow sink the tub into the foundation. The easiest method would be to cut the legs off and level it in cement. The plumber does not seem very confident. I do wish I had seen the tub beforehand....it is not what I expected...:(.

Is it possible that the wood feet were just attached for shipping, to protect it?

I looked at the specs and there are little feet drawn on, with an indication of 2" as the height...don't know what to make of that but it looks like they have to be part of the installation, maybe to align the tub well into the support material?

I saw those too but it is still 27". Max height is suppose to be 24". My frame was built for the 23" . I still think that maybe along as the tub is sunk into the mortar that the legs are insignificant....won't do anything until I talk with them on Monday.

As I read the spec, the total height is 24" (including the feet). Call them and ask how they will fix this for you! How annoying...

Get it in writing!!! Don't just have the okay from someone on the phone to cut off the feet. If you cut off the feet and your tub leaks, you are ....!! Tell them you want a confirmation email about how to solve this problem. What about having them take the tub back at their expense and perhaps they will give you a "deal" on another tub for all your difficulties. How disappointing when you were all ready to see it finished.

I read the spec sheet as the height from the bottom of the rim to the bottom of the feet being 2" + 22" - 1-1/2" for a total of 22-1/2".

If you built your deck to be 23" then the feet should be 1/2" off the floor. Perfect planning as far as I can see, enough room for a nice comfy bed of mortar.

The tub they delivered is the dorian, right?

the spec sheet shows the feet being 2" tall. Are yours 2" or larger? As someone else wrote, they could be padded out as part of the crating and packaging.

I just spoke with Robert at Toto and he agrees the tub should be at its highest point...23". Well reading the specs I read that it could be 24". Regardless it is 27". He said they build the tubs in Georgia right in back of the call center so he can walked over there and find out what to do. At any rate, I don't want a 27" tall tub to try and climb into. I now wish that I had ordered everything first, checked it out, and then built the bathroom accordingly. Depending on internet pictures and spec sheets just doesn't do it for me. many many thanks

I am so very sorry, Needsleep. All of us out here share your sense of disappointment. Even though I had my tub here before the surround was built, because of what you describe, I am now double-checking our inches as well.

The manufacturer should be responsible for sending you another tub that will fit, at their expense, and allow you to send the present one back in the same box (also at their expense). I certainly hope they are fair about your predicament based on their incorrect spec sheets. My tub surround is 23 1/2" and I find that plenty high to either step into, or to sit on the ledge and swing your legs into. I agree that 27" is out of the question.

I only wish you the best. Try to get some sleep. ('Encouraging' playful pun intended). :)

Just spoke with Robert again at TOTO. Thanks Mollie for suggesting the "in writing". He sent me the email telling me to saw off the legs and their guarantee that they would replace the tub if that doesn't work. He did admit that the specs were off and hopefully will be correcting that for future shipments. The reason we are going to try sawing them off first is that the time frame works better this way. I would be out at least three more weeks if we send it back. My carpenter has the proper saw and it should be able to work with the guarantee that TOTO will replace if it doesn't. Is clearance assured after removing the legs? If not, will toto take back the butchered tub? I would not proceed unless I KNEW that the tub would fit after it is altered.

After they saw the legs off, I highly recommend they set this tub in a bed of mortar.

No foam.

Mortar, Structolite, a bagged Quikrete mix, something like that. You do not want the weight of the tub supported by the rim. Or by flexible foam.

If needed, I'd eventually write back to Robert at Toto and tell him that the installer is charging you $XXX.XX for the additional labor and materials, and that you'd like Toto to recompense for your charges incurred.

Wow. Toto with faulty specs. Toto was one company in this industry I assumed was impeccable (don't know why, actually, just did). At least the spokesman admitted it and is making good on it. Once again, it's not that everyone's perfect, it's how one handles mistakes that shows what one is made of.

Personally, I ask them to rush deliver a new tub ASAP!

It's pretty unbelieveable that a big manufacturer's specs would be off, especially by that much! I work in commercial construction (including hotels) where owners order hundreds of one item, relying on the specs. I have never encountered something being that wrong unless it was a manufacturing defect on one particular run - which sounds like it was not the case here. Live and learn.

TOTO must think it is a big deal because they called back to make sure that my carpenter can saw off the legs. Robert sent me an exact letter explaining that it was their error and that if the legs fall off or are damaged sawing them off, they will still take back the tub. I have to admit that TOTO has been more than helpful trying to remedy the situation. My carpenter will try tomorrow to cut off these massive feet. I wish I knew how to post pictures so y'all could see. The tub was/is going to be set in mortar but when my plumber saw how much clearance there was he was taken aback....I think he thought we would need several bags to reach the bottom of the tub. I think that if we shave the legs to about 1 1/2 inches, we will be fine. Again, thanks everyone for getting me through this....

He can reduce the amount of mortar needed by screwing a couple thicknesses of 3/4" CDX ply down under the footprint of the tub, or one thickness set on top of several strips.
