'Dish Addict' Finds

Well, in the last 6 wks or so, I've added to my "dish addict" syndrome...mainly because of being led to this Holiday Forum! Ummmmm!

Here's some good "finds" from thrift shops & other sale items over that time...I've taken the pics on my paper cutter so you can see the size:

Plum Blossom dinnerware found at TS (one of my fav places) for 50 cts. each pc....got 4 cup plates, 4 cups, 2 bowls, 2 small plates (that's all that was to be found!):

I love pottery ... so these will be fun to use...we've been using them for snacks & such...here's the logo:

Went back there the other day with a friend & got these little white dishes..."everyone needs white dishes"...ummm, think I heard that somewhere! LOL... here's the logo:

There is 2 sizes of small bowls plus 2 small plates...I was hoping I could add to these...but not much luck looking for info on Internet...think they were a restaurant type dinnerware:

They are cute & have an embossed design on the edging.

Last month at Gordmans, I found these 4 plates. I've been wanting some "square" plates & love the dinnerware/pottery type...so got these for $3 each on clearance...plus 1 large serving plate for $3:

Today I lucked out at Kohl's & found 4 large bowls with handles like cups...that are the same Sango dinnerware...on clearance for $2.39 each...so I am happy with my set now! I've been ckg. Target & also online & didn't want to spend money for a whole 8-pc setting. These we will use on an everyday basis for soup & sandwiches:

And my last find...today at the consignment shop in town when I got my haircut...been watching these 8 Spode butter plates to see if they would go any lower in price...25% off so paid $12.50 for the set of 8...and a couple mos. ago I would not thought of having these dishes...but the use of transferware on this forum has been so lovely & the use of b&w really has appealed to me...so here's my start:

Ok, that's it! Well.....I did buy some a 10-pc set (not settings) of some blue & white Chinese dishes online GW...will share them with a tablescape sometime soon...also have added some pcs to my winter dishes, Plafzgraf Winter Frost pattern...will try a tablescape before I put them away in the top cupboards.

Great buys Jeanne, you will have so much fun with all your new dishes. My favorites are the brown square ones, but I like all the others too. I love how wide the border is on the black/white set. I'm so glad you were "lead astray" errr, I mean "encouraged" to come join in here with us. ;o) Can't wait to see future tablescapes using your new finds. Luvs

GREAT BUYS, Jeanne! I love the plum blossom ones!!! and those jumbo cups you found to match the Sango plates are awesome!

Not sure what you're looking for re the Oneida 'Espree' set, but a quick search turned up the link below (don't choke on THOSE prices!). Oneida Silversmiths is about a 1/2 hour drive from me... I should take a ride and see if they still have their "seconds" outlet! The last time I went they had a big table outside with a FREE sign on it! but the indication was that they were closing the outlet down. I didn't want to be a 'hog', but I did grab two different sets of salad plates. :)

I'm a dish and glass-aholic too. :(

DH enjoys the final product when I've done a tablesetting. He does think I am a bit nuts while I am mapping out a table, but oh well, everyone has some hobby, no? That said, he doesn't approve of the cabinets in my office being filled with heavy dishes. He keeps warning me that the cabinets are going to just fall off of the wall sooner or later. I store all of my red dishes for Valentines, 4th of July and Christmas overflow in the cabinets over my desk in the office. Also in the office cabinets are my stacking plates, 20 Thanksgiving plates (Kohl's sale last Fall), 20 W/S white pasta bowls, 20 square white salad plates. Oh, 2 trifle bowls as well. Then there is the pantry closet - I store my "Autumn" china - service for 12, missing some pieces, which my DM gave me. The china was her wedding china so I love to use it as soon as the Summer ends. Lenox Holiday China - full service for 20 plus extra dinner plates stored in closet in D/R. Serving pieces are being stored at DM as she has a full basement crying out for dish storage. Lenox "Amythest", my wedding china is stored in the china closet in the D/R. Full service for 16. Everyday white W/S bistroware is in the kitchen cabinets - service for 16. Do you see where I'm going with this? I am not accounting for all of the stemware, serving dishes and the like which I have accumulated over the years:). Most are in the pantry closet, but many are stashed here and there!. I don't purchase everything in sets. My Thanksgiving plates from Kohls have a leaf pattern on the edge, so I picked colors from the leaves and purchased accompanying solid color plates to complete the place settings. Also, I've found with using white dishes, I can play with the table a bit more putting in different whites or colors if I like. No basement in our home, so I have made creative use of just about every other space, conventional or not. I just gave DB and DSIL my Mikasa (forget the pattern name) dishes as they have the same pattern, and I replaced the Mikasa with the bistroware which is much more versitile for me. Then there are the linens, oh my. I have so many tablecloths and napkins it is sick. But remember all of these were collected over 20 some odd years. I love to do nice tablesettings and to do them, a gal must have the things that are needed! We host all of the holidays at our home, so I guess I can somewhat justify having all of the necessary items to entertain 10-20 people at a time. I actually thought I had a dish problem until I found this forum. Can't wait to read more responses. Great topic!

Hey Jeanne...I can see where ...'my cupboard overflow-th' ! You got quite a nice haul.. Those herons are unusual and I can see them looking great either on your bookshelf or in a TS. You can always use candlesticks and the ones you found are great. Cute little tea cup - it does have lovely delicate pattern and 'Baby' will love her new watermelon tray...to cute! I really like those leaf glass votive candlesticks.I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the neat little metal hummingbird...a new birdhouse - nice! I see 'we' share a common collection - 'Oil Lamps'..If we were close enough, we'd compare collections...lol I've got one similar to yours..I love them and they DO come in handy when the power goes out. Thansk everyone! This particular Thrift Store is only a couple of miles form my house and I pass it on a regular basis, so it is wasy for me to pop in often. Also, we have been on a mad closet cleaning spree here so I've had lots to drop off - who can drop stuff without taking a peek! LOL! Now I just need to decide if I am going back for the Steubenville Espresso set (8 cups/saucers in a cranberry with gold rim) for $4.00. They are beautiful, but we dont drink a lot of coffee in the evening and they are too small for breakfast. Alexa

I am reviving this thread, as I am looking to replace/upgrade my everyday stoneware dishes. Was thinking I wanted to get plain white, but while shopping did find I was drawn to the colourful stoneware dishes... Part of the reason I wanted to replace my current set was the grey (Now I know from cutlery) marks all over the dishes. From reading this post, I cleaned them all off with BKF, magic eraser didn't work at all. Totally amazed at how new they all look, but many of the plates have chips under the rims, so am going to buy new. After doing research on the web for a few days, it is not 100% clear how to avoid those cutlery marks on dinnerware, various opinions blamed the SS count, ie whether is was 18/10, 18/8 etc. I have a feeling it is the stoneware that marks up the most. My porcelain and my good china dishes aren't marked. DH says it's because they're not used as much. He's right, they don't get much use, but I'm wondering if those of you who DO use porcelain or bone china daily still get grey marks. To make it even harder, just got an email today that Ikea is putting their Fargrik 6 place setting stoneware set on sale for $19.99! Maybe I just buy 2 sets of that for now, and wait to fall in love with some coloured/patterned set and buy when it's on sale. Still won't address the grey cutlery marks...

What great buys and finds. 'My kind of shopping'.
The 'Plum Blossom' pattern is very pretty and I like the 'wide' soup bowl.
Lots of pretty tablescapes coming from them!
Now White Dishes are a 'MUST HAVE' staple!
I hope you find more.
You'll be able to mix and match them in many ways.
I have a couple of sets plus various pieces I
use in that way..
I really love those brown square plates and bowls.
We use dishes like that for breakfast/lunch too.
You'll get a lot of mileage from them.
Now...you did save the 'Best' for last..IMO..lol
I LOVE your Spode Transferware plates..You Never...Never can have tooo many of those.
Trust me..this will be 'The Start' to that collection. They're like 'Potato Chips'!!
I'm looking forward to seeing your B&W from GW online.
I've seen nice things, however the shipping cts seem so high. Do you find that too?

What a wonderful haul. My favorites are the black and white salad plates. And the Sangos aren't too shabby either. My dish collections is growing and growing, I need to stop and do some tablescapes. But, it will be Spring here soon (I just know it) and then I'll be outside for the most part.

Well, Jeanne, you're now an official dish addict (LOL)!
Love all your newest finds. The Sango browns are wonderful. I really like their edges. I think that your Plum Blossom plates will make a great table setting. I think you can intermix them with the Sango, too. Have you tried that yet? You're right, everyone needs white dishes, or at least white dinner plates. The do come in handy! And, as for the b&w transferware . . . ahhhhhh! How pretty! Jane's right, Transferware is addicting. I just bought 3 of the R&W cups in a different pattern. I love mixing the patterns. BTW, I saw some black & white transferware in TJMaxx or Marshalls just last week. Do you have any near you?

What a pretty haul Jeanne.
Love em all but the black/white is my favorite.
I can see them sitting so nicely on a red charger but then we all know I'm a sucker for that color combination..lol :).

You are doing so well with your "dish addict" syndrome, Jeanne, and have made some wonderful finds. Of course I like the black and white transferware the best and that's a fantastic price for Spode. I never met a transferware plate I didn't like! ;-) The Plum Blossom are a really interesting design and color combo and will be fun to 'scape with. All great choices you will have so much fun with.

But WOW, what great buys on everything. Those square plates are awesome. I really, really like them.
Of course I definitely love transferware. Its always just so pretty.

PM50...those plum blossom I've been using alot...hope I'll run across more somewhere...need 2 more plates & bowls for a setting of 4. Thanks for the Espress website...I did look but I still can't find ones like these ..embossed around top edges ...same color. Think I will probably watch for a cheaper set somewhere of white.

Jane...Spode & potato chips, uh? Sounds like trouble! Will be fun to watch for when we go camping & such this summer! And, yes, the GW online dishes I got for $9 but the shipping killed the deal! UGH! No more of that!

froufrou & lynn... I do love the contrast brown Sango's! Gordman's used to be called "Half Price Store" & lots of good deals there...these 4 plates caught my eye on the clearance table! I do ck out TJMaxx here, Lynn...love that place...cause something's always changing! Today I got another garden bunny statue...I'll post a pic later.
