It can be very frustrating to pick out paint colors without having something to go off of-an overall color scheme or inspiration piece -an area rug, fabric or art piece. So when we are faced with doing it for a whole house when we may or may not be using our old things it can be very tough. I commend you for getting so far with your choices and being happy with them! Sometimes the 'problem' with and individual choice is not just a legititmate 'will it work?' but the fear of commitment as well. In concept our choices are great but in reality we are committed once we actually start painting. Without actually seeing all of the colors, knowing the lighting and the flow of the floorplan I can't comment on the actual colors, so...
What I would encourage you to do is stick with all the colors you really feel work, paint those areas first and then tackle the guest bath. Paint is one of the easiest things to fix, especially in a relatively small space like a bathroom. Then you can experiment with the colors you would like in in the guest bath. Often a color that is not a 'dead on' match will be more interesting than one that matches exactly with your fabric. Once the colors you like are up you will have a more realistic feel for the intensity and hue you need in the guest bath. Your toile is lovely and it would be a shame not to make use of it! Brutuses, I think it would all look great together...seriously! Do you happen to have a copy of your floorplan online somewhere? I could do a simple photoshop using swatches of your colors assigned to each room and where they are in relation to each other. I love the Toile and think it's going to look fantastic!!!

i wouldn't say you're overreacting as much as over thinking. if you feel the color at full strength is too dark i'd have to advise you select another color (maybe a different brand) or give specific direction to the paint store on HOW to lighten. most don't really feel comfortable doing this. the problem with having the store "lighten it by 50%" is that the color really won't be the same at all... people have different ways of doing things. they might actually try to take down the percentage of each of the colors or (and this is one of my personal favorites) just add white. my MIL told me she wanted to paint her walls "tan" so i bought some sample cans and painted large blocks of color so she could choose. she picked the lightest one and took the name and number to the paint store. while there she decided it might be too dark and had them "lighten" it. by the time i saw it every room was painted yellow. when i asked what happened she said, "i don't know. i just told them to lighten it a little." it looks horrible to say the very least. why don't you get a sample mixed up (and a few others while you're at it) and paint a large section on each side of the room. live with it a while. this should make the process a whole lot less scary. lindy, no unfortunately I don't have my floor plan on line. I have an architect student working at putting in on line for me. Hope he has it finished before I move in. HA!

kates, I know what you mean about lighten. When I asked them to lighten it by 50% it changed the color. The 50% will work, but the orginal was closer to what I wanted. Rather than have them screw it up worse I think I'll stay with the 50%. It's still a good match and I have a lot of white moldings and baseboard to break up the color. I've run out of time as far as hunting down exact paint colors. This is D-day for paint. LOL

Okay brutuses, you'll have to use your imagination a bit here but "maybe" this will help you visualize? I hope so anyway.

I grabbed a photo off the Ben Moore website that has a hallway and two other rooms visible. Then, I put in the Silver Marlin and Silver Sage on either side with Rich Cream in the hallway. At the end of the hall, I did your toile swatch and the Yorkshire tan. I know you're doing 50% strength on the Yorkshire but I wasn't sure how to gauge that. Regardless, it all looks beautiful together and I just love that toile! Remember, you're not going to be looking at a sea of paint when you see the finished product. You'll see the vanity, lighting, things on the wall along WITH the paint. It'll all pull together..have faith! Can't wait to see this done!!

Oh shoot, I forgot to ditch the rug in that picture. I didn't want it to compete with your vision! Here's another one. What flooring is in your hall and bath?

The flooring in the hall and bedrooms and throughout, minus the laundry, pantry and baths, will be Armstrong's Grand Illusions laminate that looks just like hard wood. I haven't made a final choice on color, but I know it will be somewhere in the middle, no oak or dark walnut. Maybe a lighter cherry, not sure. The guest bath with the toile will have a black and white basket weave tile flooring and white wainscoting 4 ft. up.

As for rugs, I won't make that decision until I'm in the house. I don't use wool or other rugs that can't be washed. I go for the washable types so they will change often.

What if you choose a color that is closer to the figures in the Toile rather than the background color? On my monitor it looks to be in the grey family. Maybe you could go with something like BM Revere Pewter.

I think going with the YT and some "real" greens like Saybrook, Olive branch, Kennebunkport green, etc., in the other rooms, it will flow.

The truth is, when I ordered this toile, the color on the monitor was actually not the color it was when it arrived so it has been a bit worrysome from the beginning, yet I do love it and know it will look beautiful and tie into the old New Orleans feeling I'm going for in that bath.

This entire ordeal reminds me of Christopher Lowell. Remember him? He always painted first and matched fabric second. Just the opposite of the majority of folks. I'm starting to think he's on to something. Before I learned about decorating I always painted the walls then purchased the other things to match. Maybe I should have stuck with that formula since it was working for me. HA! HA!
