We took little GD home and I miss her already. She's such a fun little playmate.

With only time on my hands, I decided if I'm going to be doing a few tablescapes I would start redoing the cupboards in my utility room for dishes and accessories. I'm so amazed how much room it takes to store all this good stuff.

As you can see I don't have alot of my dishes and accessories in there and there isn't room for all. I plan to keep adding as I come across things for the different occasions. I'm so thankful for all the storage I have and could use more for sure.

I would read about others not having enough room and now I absolutely understand.LOL I will have to continue this start another weekend. I'm sore from just doing what I did.

Wonder how long it will look organized???

Your dish cabinets look very, very neat. I need to work on mine. My friend told me my cabinets were going to fall off the wall if I put another dish in them. It's amazing how much room the big stuff takes up.

Congrats on all the organizing! I really like your idea for using cabs in your laundry room to store tablescape things. Hmmmmmm . . . you've gotten me reevaluating my own laundry room storage now. Thanks!!!

Well, got my Brookhaven quote 19-22K for frameless. 24-27K for inset. OUch. We have a decent sized galley kitchen with no uppers on one side. But she's reworking the layout so maybe she made some changes. I'm going to meet with her tomorrow to see what's she's done. I went to check out some ShowPlace cabinets also. I almost felt like I was more updated on the company that the kitchen showroom selling them. I knew about the new designs and colors lol. I was not blown over by the display they had (they did have a kitchen set up), but I'm not sure if it was the cabinet's fault or maybe the guy just did a careless job with the details. I think the display was a few years old at least too since he said they've changed the side mounted pull outs to undermounted and had made a few other changes. Wood sided doors and free glazes sounds good to me... Man, so many choices. My neighbor is going with Quality cabinets...her sample looks really nice (there's spending a fortune between the kitchen, bath, hutch, entertainment center). My mom got Crystal cabinets about 13 years ago and hers still look great too. And my soapstone guy wants to give me a quote for cabinets too (custom made in CA)... I think he would do a great job, but I'm very hesitant about having a CA finish instead of one from out of state. aaaaaaaaa !

yippee! if anyone is interested, we're fleshing this out as he works on the area today, and any design or practical advice is welcome. (our original plan isn't going to work, but I like the dish rack idea better anyway). we live in our rv now, very happily I might add, though the overhead cabinet in this space was making me crazy, so it's been removed. the space we have is 44 inches across, so plenty of room for 6 dishes and 6 bowls, as well as coffee mugs too. we know he has to build a deep lip so dishes don't come flying out when we drive, and i think he's going to have to add a removable barrier for when we are in motion. for 12" dishes. maybe a 1" x 14" board bottom and top will work? on the top of this he'll add another lip and barrier for larger items. what am I forgetting? oh yes---paint colors. the existing cabinets are natural maple and I just purchased a pair of base cabs to replace the dining table and chair set. I would like to paint the cabs and dish rack green, and was thinking maybe cheerful apple green for the dish rack and a more demure green for the base cabinets. I'm excited, this is coming together really nicely!

thank you Chess. That's all I was trying to point out and I got scolded. I painted my friends cabs over 10 years ago. not one chip. they look far from awful. the reason 'everyone' is painting their cabinets, is because they're tired of 1980-90's oak! Otherwise, they would replace them. people can't afford to replace but they want something different, newer, updated. So they paint. same type of cabinets. in good shape. should we leave these for another 20 years? these? No one here thinks these should be painted?? Maybe it's because I had cabs like this for far too long and just can't stand them. I think a lot of the problem w/those saying, "keep them they're beautiful", haven't lived with them for 2 decades. I don't know about the rest of you, but I like changes. I can't stand looking at the same color on the wall or the same furniture for 20+ years. If you guys can, great! think of all the money you save. But some of us like to mix it up a bit. And Housegal, while those pictures you're posting are beautiful, you're comparing apples to oranges. Those cabs are not whitewashed or pickled either, but natural. I might also point out that they're not oak. The tones look great because of the style and everything surrounding it. you can't compare the tones in OP's kitchen and her pickled oak cabs to those.

Just stumbled on this discussion, when looking for tips on how to pack my china & crystal for a move. My heart would break if any of it were damaged!! We moved a year and a half ago and I was literally up nights worrying about packing it up, but it survived that move (which was about an hour and a half, we packed but movers moved us). They stayed in boxes for a few months til we ordered furniture & it came in. Not a thing broke! This time we're doing the move ourselves, only moving a few towns over (going from a rental to a townhouse) so it "should" be quick & easy but I still don't want to take chances!! I've had the china & crystal for almost 32 years - actually the china longer. My parents traveled to London before I even met my husband, & my mom told me to pick out my china & she bought most of the place settings at Harrod's & had them shipped home. Saved me a ton of $$. Then at my shower I received a lot of serving pieces. Thankfully he loves the pattern, and after all these years we still love it, it fits our style/color scheme. Even though we only use it for holidays/occasions, our adult sons always liked using it when they made a special meal for their girlfriends. Our youngest is engaged, & his fiancee has access to 3 sets of china herself (her mom's, grandmother's and great grandmother's) so I think they'll have plenty of their own! My pattern is Royal Doulton Princeton. Then after being married, I started getting some Christmas pieces - just mugs, not any dishes, but I love them. I have some Wachtersbach, bright red with a green tree on them. "Lost" them in the attic for a number of years - it wasn't my job to organize or go in the attic to get the Xmas stuff so I thought maybe they got tossed. Turns out hubby had them buried somewhere in the back. When we moved they (along with a number of other things lol) were rediscovered to my delight. I also have some Longaberger Christmas mugs. Yeah for you, Punk! It looks great and there's still room there to add even more! Believe me, once you are bitten by the "bug", you WILL continue to add more! LOL

Everything looks so organized! I'm proud of you, Girl! And look at all of the goodies you've collected already!

Believe me, it won't take long until you won't be able to get so much as a saucer in anywhere!

Maybe I ought to take a picture of the area behind my sofa so all y'all can have a good laugh!

Punk, that is fantastic! I do know how you can get some more room though...just take those pumpkin soup bowls, pack them up and ship them to me. I'll be more than happy to store them for you.

I'm curious, what are the glass pieces in the corner by the Noel and Joy candleholders?

Thanks all for your wonderful comments. You all need to remember I have 4 china closets, a huge entertainment center full of dishes and stuff and another full of tablecloths. I still have the bottom of the other cabinet filled with spa things that I will clean out and fill.

My DM was such a great hostess and I have several candle rings that I need to use and show all of you. I keep forgetting to go through my different stashes so this is what prompted me to get organized.

Dream, the glass on the second shelf are candle holders. I usually use my princess house for the table settings but used alot of these with things on them for Christmas. Most of these were DM.
