Are you sure they are also looking at a free standing range?

Their website doesn't show this, only the slide-in stove. I recently called my local Lowe's and asked when they are getting these in and the sales staff hadn't even seen the website one and didn't know anything! I'll talk to the appliance person at Best Buy, he knows all the brands.

Another big question, is Electrolux going to do another rebate? I wasn't serious about a new stove when I heard about their last one just days before it ended.

I mean every brand has sales but not Electrolux. I didn't think one company could control the market like this many more. Sears has an appliance sale, but Electrolux is excluded. Best Buy has coupons now, but guess who is excluded? I just love getting something ON SALE! Or, the feeling that I found a bargain.

It seems that everyone selling anything right now has to offer some incentive to get consumers off the couch. That's how I bought my new Kitchen Aid Side by Side Refrigerator and Dishwasher which are quiet, efficient and great-looking. Each had a $100 rebate at a sale around Thanksgiving time.

I also am wondering how the Electrolux induction stove would compare to the GE I read about and which did well in Consumer Reports. Also, will it be $3 grand like the slide-in. Other brands don't add a thousand to offer induction.

Gosh, so frustrating to go to numerous large home improvement stores and none of them have the high-end freestanding stoves. They sell the stuff that is good for an apt. building or cabin. Who needs to see that? I want to see the stuff with the bells and whistles.

One floor manager at a Home Depot near me, told me most of his customers were fine with ordering stuff from internet photos, sight unseen. He'd sold thousands that way!

I replied, well, not me, because I want to know how heavy the door is, how the broiler elements are arranged, how the controls look and feel, whether the racks are light-weight or heavy-duty, the burner lay-out, and, if the lower drawer actually glides out [most are such poor quality and have sharp edges].

I have been reading about induction ovens on the Consumer Report blogs and saw the new Samsung recently at Best Buy. The only problem with the Samsung, in my opinion, was that three of the 4 burners were small. The convection oven was great, the fit and feel of the doors and controls were very nice, and the price was similar to other convection ovens. Now, after reading about induction ranges, I am wondering if that even matters. One person indicated, in the CR blog, you can put a larger kettle on a smaller burner and still get good results. How good?

There are 2 other threads on this slide in. E'lux makes the slide in and free standing induction ranges for Sears. It was mentioned earlier that a free standing induction was coming from E'lux but it was supposed to be later this year. Maybe they are now bringing them out together.

E'lux and some other appliance brands control thier prices and only have limited sales throughout the year. The 10% off sale expired in Feb. There is a rebate on Icon applicances but it is hardly even worth it. You have to buy at least 2 and even then you get a pitance back. I wish there were better prices but they will charge whatever the market will support.

Induction elements can be bridged by a single pan (griddle) only if they are on the same circuit inside the cooktop. You should check with E-lux on this. They usually respond to e-mails pretty quickly.

Got concerned about delivery of my slide in induction range and emailed my appliance salesman. He wrote back: "I just got off the phone with Electrolux and they said I should have the range by mid April".

Hmm, I guess we'll just have to wait and see when they actually arrive. The problem is that I need the range by July 1st for my remodel, and if I can't get it, then I'll need to know to order the GE Profile instead. More indecision.

My new Typhoon Bordeaux countertops went in yesterday and my plumbing today, so I would like to get rid of my almond stove soon.

My plumber was impressed with the Moen Aberdeen pull-down faucet. He's a Delta guy, he had told me b/c he likes how parts are easily obtained and mostly universal, but he complimented this kitchen faucet and agreed it was ergonmically much better than the pull-outs.

I have seen the GE Profile. I think it's fine but I'd prefer the Electrolux because it has two ovens. I am doing custom cabinets and either will require a custom base. Also, these ranges require that the outlet be in a certain spot behind the range, and the Electrolux would require rewiring for a 50 amp circuit. I really need to have the range here during construction to ensure that it fits. If the Electrolux isn't available then I need to think about whether I want to settle for the GE instead, or delay construction.

I love the idea of two ovens, with the large oven on top. [If I had the large oven on the bottom, I would be worried about dropping the turkey at Thanksgiving or perhaps straining my back removing a ham at Easter!]

The Electrolux radiant top stove has some nice features and good reviews, if the outlet location presents a problem, or the induction is not available soon as a freestanding stove.

Sorry for the OT, We are thinking about Typhoon Bordeaux granite as well. Are you posting pictures somewhere? What kind of BS are you doing?

I've looked at the back of the E'Lux dual fuel slide in and the opening at the back went pretty much across the lower 8" or so. I have a pic. Now I'm not sure the induction would be the same but I'm guessing it probably is.

The Electrolux induction diagram is below. It's different from the GE, and different from the dual-fuel as you described.

Backsplash for Typhoon Bordeaux Countertops:

First, we will have granite splashes of about 4.75 inches installed because this will follow the line created by the splash between the sink level and the raised snack bar. (My splash was measured after the install to insure a tight fit, this is weeks out; no photos.) My fabricator's staff recommended this.

Second, my husband [who is very involved], would like Travertine tile in a diamond pattern above the granite splash. This would match the tiles around our fireplace--viewed from the kitchen.

Another sidebar, this may be awhile. We had granite installed in our master [colonial dream] and main baths and unexpectedly have spent $$$ on fixtures.

Electrolux & Other Induction Stoves:

Today I saw all the stoves in one place at a huge warehouse sale!

I looked over the GE profile induction freestanding range and did not like that it only has one large burner. The Electrolux is superior in that area. Also, the GE profile oven did not allow you to broil with the convection feature. The GE Rep. was present and told me a stove must have Convection Roast to allow the fan to run with the top broiler element. I love that feature on my older KA. That may also be important to you. [The built-in or slide-in model you are considering may have more features.]

The GE profile radiant convection oven does allow broiling with the convection fan and has two ovens.

He pointed out how you could remove the porcelain tray in any of their stoves with a bottom warmer drawer or bottom oven to wash it. The racks all glided nicely and were porcelain and the stainless handles and finish were very attractive and had smooth and safe edges.

I also learned from the GE Rep. that you can use a pan up to 2" larger than the burner diameter. That helps me evaluate and eliminate the GE induction stove. I need a stove that will allow two skillets, or one large skillet and a stock pot for pasta.

Also, warmfridge, he didn't know about the plug-in issue! I could have sunk my money into one of the 3 induction ranges still available at this warehouse sale and found a huge problem at delivery time.

The back of the GE profile induction freestanding stove has a vent located along the bottom in the area they recommend an electric outlet not be placed; basically, in the center of the 30" space.

Looking this over at our house, we are not interested in cutting our wall up to see which way we could move this, or, if it could be moved.

That led me to walk over to the the dual-fuel stoves. We could run a gas line upstairs to my stove area. I saw the Electrolux and GE Cafe models next to each other. Both had every feature, could handle large pans and had two ovens. The Cafe duel-fuel and the Cafe radiant provided for a griddle.

I like the freestanding Electrolux radiant range with two ovens, the GE Cafe radiant range with baking drawer, and the duel fuels of both. My husband really likes cooking with gas and wants to get an estimate on running a line before we decide. I like the ease of cleaning the smooth top, but agree with him that induction and gas give you a quick response.
