Oven/microwave/speed oven combos and options
Comments (7)My worry is that if one component breaks, we have to replace the whole thing Why would you have to replace the whole thing? I guess we live in such a throwaway society at this point nobody considers repairing things anymore. However, one component failing earlier is a risk to take into consideration. I went with a KitchenAid convection microwave/wall oven combo and it's worked fine for 8 years, so I can't say I regret the decision. Speed ovens seem finicky to me, and I'm not sure we really need it There are no true speed oven/wall oven combo units. That KitchenAid does not have a speed oven on top, it's just a convection microwave. The closest you'll get is the GE Profile Advantium/wall oven combo, and I'm not a fan of that because the Advantium part is only 120V, which takes longer and gives lesser quality results than the 240V Advantium. I think the best option for you is to get a speed oven or a steam oven with a separate single oven below. That way if one component fails you don't have to replace both. You will need to redo the electrical though....See MoreGaggenau vs Miele wall oven+warm drawer+combi oven
Comments (23)@Sarah, I bought the 36" fridge/freezer combo (bottom freezer), and a 24" wine cooler column. The fridge has been installed about 4 years ago, the wine cooler still standing in my garage - need to make room for it and have been procrastinating. Also my better half developing a bit of a wine habit has not helped to incentivize me to install a full wine rack - unfortunately. Had 0 problems so far. It just freaking works. @JJ Mekai, in my experience you don't get a better longevity from any other brand. Don't know about Miele, but I did have to replace my Miele dishwasher (installed in 2007) about a year ago. The Gaggenau cooktop and vent hood installed at the same time don't even blink. I may replace some parts because they get rubbed off for looks... but functionally they are rock solid. Sorry... the hood had a snafu once couple years back. Circuit board replacement, cost me $350 to fix. The ovens, and they are used daily, as the refrigerator, installed about 4 years ago, knock on wood, are rock solid and seem to just keep on ticking....See MoreDouble wall oven v speed oven v toaster oven
Comments (17)We rarely have a need for a microwave, but after doing without for three years I knew I wanted one. We opted for the Bosch speed oven, and use it much more than I thought I would. Use is about 30% speed cooking, 20% microwave, and 50% of the time we use it as a small convection oven. However, the oven that has fully won me over is the steam oven. It is wonderful, and after some glitches with the control board it is working flawlessly (Bosch has been top notch for repair and service). It does everything that a regular microwave does except pop corn. Food reheated in a steam oven doesn't even compare to food reheated in a microwave. I've used all three (speed, steam, full size convection) at the same time on quite a few occasions and love having them all. However, if I had to pick just one of the smaller ones to go with my full size it would be the steam. I'd put a tiny microwave in the pantry for that rare need. Good luck with your new ovens!...See MoreBosch or KitchenAid convection/speed-oven combo? Help!
Comments (20)I know you’re asking Mike but I would like to share my experience. I‘ve used the speed oven as a second oven and it works well for that purpose but for us it’s mostly a microwave. And the door opens as an oven, the spring broke twice so far and the Sensors needed replacing once, and all this after the warranty expires. The door is heavy like a true oven door, and if you’re using as a microwave maybe it’s too much use... something to think about....See MoreRelated Professionals
