Plumbing for a Gaggenau combi steam oven
Comments (10)Okay, I've uploaded a picture of the open cabinet. The drain and water line come through right under the next shelf up, as you can sort of see. That's about the level of the bottom of the big oven. There is a vent. It is required. The trench picture doesn't show any of the actual plumbing bits for the oven in it. It was a work in progress picture. I linked it because it shows how the fall of the drain line goes and ties in to the rest. I'm sorry I can't give you better details. I understand the principles of plumbing, but I don't tend to make long term memories of things that are recorded elsewhere. I agree with the lady about the plumber (see above). :) I do know enough to know that the big issue I used as a test for screening contractors was the fall for both the steam oven and the island. I hired the guy who was equally concerned. He brought in the master plumber and the camera to crawl the line, before we had a contract, so that he could assess the scope of the job, and even if it would be possible. We lucked out that the kitchen drained toward where I wanted the island, rather than toward the powder room, in a perpendicular direction. The line required something like 1/8" per foot, so they were just really careful to make sure the angle was true. Attofarad, I remembered that I'd answer that before, in Kitchens. Please forgive the copy and paste: The face of the spice rack is 7", and the trays about about 4.25" interior measure. It's one sided with a thick wall and some air space on the back so that the spices will be okay even during self clean. The back of the wood gets a little warmer than room temperature, but the side that the spices are on stays cool....See MoreGagg combi-steam oven - plumbed/unplumbed? new/old models?
Comments (2)We have last year's 27" Gagg combi & love it. (It's identical to the 24" inside.) Having it plumbed is fantastic. It never runs out of water/steam, it can remove the steam before you open the door, we never have to deal with removing water, and the capacity is larger than an unplumbed steam oven. There is a water hardness setting that you must set before using the oven the first time. You'll also want the water connection to be easily accessible in case you need to clear the filter screen (which we haven't had to do yet). Our water shut-off is in the rear of the cabinet above the combi, and our carpenter built a removable cover that sits in front of it. I can still use the cabinet for the combi racks, trays, muffin pans, etc. in off-the-shelf tray racks. The combi can also be used as a regular small convection oven for casseroles, baked items, & so on by setting zero steam & oven temperature. The ability to combine 60% steam with a temperature of 250 allows for gentle reheating or 360 to roast chicken while keeping it moist. A friend of mine has her 24" aluminum Gagg combi stacked over a 30" SS Miele Masterchef oven & it looks great. We have our combi over a Gagg convection oven, but we mixed up the rest of our appliances, including a DCS all gas range & Monogram Advantium....See MorePlumbed or not - Miele combi steam convection oven?
Comments (7)I have a Wolf convection steam oven and love it. It's not plumbed, which you probably already know. It has occasionally run out of water while cooking but when that happens, the oven beeps, opens the door to the water reservoir automatically and displays a message to fill the tank. When I remember to check that the water tank is full before cooking, I haven't had a problem with it running out during use....See MoreMiele Combi Steam Oven - XL vs XXL (and layout advice)
Comments (10)I have been researching various Miele combinations for the CSO and the CO both 24 inches wide. I had designed an alcove in the kitchen 90 degrees from the island for stackable CO and then the CSO XL. Both are the Sensotronic because the CO 24 inches doesn't come in the M touch. The CSO is unplumbed because I was told that filling the water and emptying the condensation tray is really easy. I am now re-thinking these choices. I thought getting the CSO XL was nice for daily cooking along with the induction cookop (Miele 30 inch or 36 inch, still deciding). But in looking at the XXL, it seems I could just get the XXL M touch and plumbed. Any thoughts: Is having the CSO XXL enough. I hear it takes an 18-turkey. The only reason to get the CO is perhaps for making a pizza, but the CSO XXL also has an intensive heat option. This is for a new home construction. All the Miele literature shows these gorgeous kitchens with all these stackable appliances. But having a single XXL at the right height as a wall unit also seems elegant, especially the M touch. All appliances are black and countertops are soapstone. 30 or 36-inch Miele induction with the downdraft extractor in the 7-foot long island 30-subzero refrigerator, with the 2-drawer freezer 36-inch Julien Smart Sink Thanks Suzanne....See Moregizmonike
