Do you like the curved shower curtain rods?

Such a silly little dilemma--my husband, who usually has zero opinions on anything design-related, adamently wants one of those curved shower curtain rods in our upstairs bath remodel. He thinks they're really cool, and as a 6'2, 220lb guy, he likes that it gives some more shoulder room.

I get sort-of a weird, off-balance feeling when I'm in the shower with them--we stayed in a condo that had it for a week and I never really got used to it.

What do you think? I'll probably just let him be thrilled with that one little detail and keep it--but am I the only one who doesn't think they're the best thing since sliced bread?

I put one in my kids shower tub combo and it does feel much roomier, I hate shower curtains touching me and this does help. I think you should let him have this one.

Well, I'm 5'7" (NOT telling weight!), and I really appreciate the feeling of extra space I get with the curved rod. You will get used to it quickly, and he will appreciate it daily. I think you should do it. Plus, then you'll be more likely to get your way on the next issue!

I bought an 'adjustable' curved shower rod, online. It's composed of 2 curved pieces, one slides inside the other. It's terrible - the diameters of the 2 pipes/rods are very different. There is enough room for the rod to move, and the rings don't slide over the junction. I'm guessing you can buy a solid piece, and cut it to fit. I doubt 43" will be a problem. Look for some curved shower rods online, and then research the manufacturers. Most will have details about installation, more than retailers' sites. Pick up the phone and call the manufacturer if you still have probs.

What do you mean by "a 48-inch shower?" I assume not 48 square, since that's a huge shower with no possible elbow room problem. We put in a shower that is about 48x32. We went with glass doors, not a curtain, but I can say that at 32 inches there is still no elbow room problem.

Mine is a little above the enclosure, and a bit of tub sticks out. I think it's normal, but honestly I'm just so happy to be rid of those nasty sliding doors I really don't care!

I have them in two of my bathrooms in regular length and widths. They fit just fine. One is seen below, but you can see the other in the bathroom thread. I hung the rod slightly outside of where the directions said to hang it. It's sits just above the edge of the tub enclosure. Here is a link that might be useful: Bathrooms

Oh, I already bought the rod last night...and I'm sure he'll put it in today. Not a big deal at all--he's just SO EXCITED about it...I didn't know if I was the only one who wasn't crazy in love with this concept!!

Watch--I'll come back here in a month raving about how much I love it and how much roomier the shower is ;)

I put one in my kids shower tub combo. I hate shower curtains touching me too. When you install it consider what is next to the tub like the toilet try to have the curtain a bit more towards the tub and not on top of the toilet so much. We are using that bathroom now cause of a remodel and we could have moved the rod over just one more inch cause when I went to sit on the toilet the other day the shower curtain came with.. Yikes! well I just went and measured and I think were like 5" away but when you hang a curtain they poof and well you know the rest.

We have one in our guest bath which is our only full bath at present, (master is gutted for remodel)) and it's ALOT better when showering, it also gives a little interest to the bath area. I know they seem a little pricey, but they are worth it. Bed Bath & Beyond has them and if you wait for the coupon, you can get it 20% off.

Thanks again...I did get it at BBB with a 20% coupon (4 out of 5 of my coupons were expired...they never care....wonder why they put exp. dates on them anyhow?).

It's $39.99 for any finish--so it worked out to be about $32 plus tax. I don't think that's unreasonable...one of the only parts of the bathroom remodel I think is "cheap!"

I like them, and intended to use one, but the one I bough from target was not engineered to be installed between parallel walls. I am still in favor of them.
I saw a picture online where somebody installed one with the curvature going upward like an arch. True!

Do you think that the rod itself cuts down on the size of your room space or gives the appearance of taking up more space? My bathroom is pretty small to begin with and I'm curious if this will make it appear smaller. Also, has anyone mounted the shower rod higher, straight or curved, than the usual height? I am going to make my own shower curtain so I thought that making it longer and mount the rod higher might give the room a different look.

No, I don't think it would necessarily make the room feel smaller...it's not that much of a curve. I guess I just A) think it might be weird/gimmicky, B) makes my center of gravity kind of off while showering, and C) might make the shower curtain fall kind of funny.

I'm guessing you could mount it as high as you want...I would think if it were significantly higher, it would be a little annoying to pull across for shorter people.
