some Val decor in my bay window

Just playing around with stuff. On clearance last summer, I bought a "rose tree", white with tiny pink roses on it.

I figured I could add other ornaments. So this is my first experiment with Valentines.

I haven't yet found a nice big bell jar, so got this kind from Michaels and made a little "woodland" Valentine scene with two bears. Then I found a large cherub at Ross for a great price, and roses from Dollar Tree which I stuck in a pretty wine bottle I couldn't bear to throw out.

So far so good with the cats who lay on each side of the jar. I figure the dangly hearts on the rose tree might get some attention.

Karen, Your Valentine decor in your bay window looks very pretty. I love it all especially the rose tree.

Karen, I love it all. That little tree is very cute, great use of the jar, and the roses in the wine bottle are so romantic. I really love that cupid, it is gorgeous. I am so proud of you gal, you've come a long way in the past year, haven't you? ;o) Luvs

Since Karen has been busy this week, and hasn't gotten back here, I will try to help with tipsy pot directions. You need a six foot piece of rebar which can be purchased at Lowe's for around $2.00. You also need pots in graduated sizes, ie: 12 inch, 10 inch, 8 inch, etc. Just pound the rebar into the ground about 18 inches then slide the largest pot onto the rebar through the hole in the bottom of the pot. Fill with potting soil. Now slide the next largest pot onto the rebar, but tip it to the side a bit. (A rock will help support it at the angle until you get the next pot on.) Continue sliding the pots on and alternating the way you angle them then fill them with soil and plants. Vining plants look really good in them. Be careful when watering so that you don't wash all the soil out, and know that they do dry out fairly quickly so you will want to water frequently. (Unless you use Karen's great idea of using silk plants!) If you check on the Garden Junk forum and just type "tipsy pots" into the search box, you will find lots of them. Some have used metal buckets, some plastic pots, some teapots, etc. to make them. The fun part is all the comments from visitors who are amazed at seeing what looks like just pots balanced on top of each other! ;o) Luvs

Karen... WOW!! I had no idea. I know Dept 56 has pricey items...but had no clue on this item.. This WAS a great deal. When I saw it at GW, DH had just gone down the same aisle, but missed it (man's shopping). I followed behind him, and spotted it right away. He was so surpised that they even had it there and of course the price. The other day we went into one of the little shops in town, where they have a large display and selection of Dept 56. DH likes to go in there before Christmas to see if there's any retired pieces. They're usually discounted. Well, ALL of Dept 56 Christmas was 50% off. When we questioned the owner..she said she was not going to carry it anymore. There is not much interest anymore from customers, as in the past. We saw the same thing this Summer, in Cape Cod...many of the stores who would have large displays...either cut back on stock or did away with it completely. We are so disappointed to know, this might be another hobby that will be a 'thing of the past'...just like Train Sets under the tree. :( Thank you Karen for doing the research on the Pumpkin Wagon...I will treasure it even more so!! lol jane

Thanks, Girls. Jeanne, I think I got the larger Woodland Santa at Michaels one year. They usually have a lot of neat Santas. Last year I grouped most all of mine on a table that was in the entry way before I got the sideboard. I'll take close-ups of the Mikasa in the curios when I take more photos. Tho its all pictured individually in my Collections album if you want to see it better. Emptying 4 curios wasn't too bad, there were around 50 or so greyhound statues in them. But the big cabinet where my Village is...boy, that's another matter. I have over 100 of Painted Pony figurines in it, and can only carry 3 at time safely. So a lot of trips to move them to the pantry shelves where the village boxes were. The neighbor behind me has a huge ol' pine tree that hangs way over into my backyard, so I have an endless supply of little pinecones for Christmas decorating. I saw on a blog where cut pine boughs lasted fine in water, so figured they'd be perfect for those golfers. LOL. Punk, I love cobalt glass in my Garden Junkin'. I gathered most of it into the center area of my backyard. My Blue Garden. LOL. I bought a bottle tree stand from Collections Etc a few years ago. Jane, I've been really slow. Just did bay window today, and need to take more photos of things finished. I've repacked so much stuff, but unfortunately I left a LOT out to yet go thru even tho I don't 'need' to put anymore out. LOL. But you guys got me on a roll. :o) That big silver mercury glass deer is one of my all-time favorite pieces. When the wreath lights hit it, or the sunlight coming thru a small window high on front door, different colors shine in him. He picks up all the purples around him. He was originally $40 but I had a coupon that took off 40%. I think I got him 3 or 4 years ago. Michaels only had half a dozen in and I've not seen them again. My DD got one too. Janet, watching Grayson AND making all those wreaths...I don't know how you do it. No wonder you are exhausted. And I'm sure you're fighting pain every step of the way yourself. My daughter copied the Pinterest NOEL and had someone at her work cut them out for us. My Fall decor was all piled in the garage so yesterday I finally got around to actually putting it away properly, I don't usually let it sit like that, but I got to working on Christmas and side-tracked. Patricia, my goodness....how on earth do I thank you for saying such a wonderful thing about me. Wow, that sure was a day brightener!! The rose tree is sooooo precious! And I never would have thought to use tiny little bears that way. How great that jar turned out. Y'all are teaching this old girl so much!!!
I would love to find a pretty tree like that. I found a plain white tree at the GW they called an Easter tree, but I used it on my table with purple hearts and it turned out ok.

Betty, the jar is just a bag of popourri and Val bears from Walmart. Stuck in a piece of dead vine I had spray painted gold and clipped on a tiny red bird (which isn't visible in the pix)
I got a little white tree a year ago from Collections Etc catalog, you can buy a box of different holiday ornies with one. Tree is only $8 I think. I bought ornaments for several holidays for mine at Michaels, and then I had it on my front porch on a small shelf I have under mailbox.
Here it is decorated for ST Pats and Easter last year...
Its fun to decorate and I probably should do it for Valentines too this time.

Karen, I love your little white tree that you decorate for different holidays. And you got such a good price also. You've reminded me again of all the holidays to decorate for again this year. ;~)

Your different holiday theme trees are adorable! And you're way ahead of me, holiday-wise!

I know exactly what I plan to do for Easter (insert maniacal laughter here) but I am a bit at a loss for St. Paddy's. I hav ONE shamrock printed hankie and some Guinness glasses with vintage advertising posters on them.

It does not a St. Patricks display make. :)

I don't remember seeing your little white tree last year Karen. How could I forget something so cute? It is just darling.

Jenn, you are ahead of me--other than checking to see that I have some green plates, I don't have a clue what I'm doing for St. Pat's either. Easter might be easier since I have a pretty good stash of bunnies now! LOL
