A fan here, a fan there - - where and which ones?

I am in the process of choosing items for our new master bath and it is time to make the fan decision. After reading different posts I think I should place one fan above the shower. If I do this, would I also need one in the main part of the bathroom?

I am also planning on placing one in the toilet room (which will now have a pocket door).

Which fans would you suggest?

The dimensions are 11' 7" x 11'. Here's the layout:

You will be fine with a fan located somewhere near the "TH" in "Master Bath". That will draw the shower steam quickly and will be sufficient for the rest of the bath. Size it properly based on cubic feet of bath and CFM.

You can add another in the WC, but unless it's code I wouldn't bother.

Panasonic makes what are regarded as the quietest fans. Not inaudible, but not far from it.

I think I would put a can light in the middle of the shower ceiling and put the fan centered right outside the shower door. I agree another fan in the toilet area is a good idea. I really like the Panasonic whisper quiet fans. I also highly recommend that you put them on a timer. I have the Leviton 5/10/20/30 minute one, the Leviton 612-6230M. 5-10 minutes to air out bad smells and 30 minutes after a shower is about right. I think Panasonic has a guide on their website that suggests the cfm strength recommended for different size rooms.

If you are leaving them in the ground and they do come back after winter they are probably not growing enough to flower because our summers are not long enough. Unlikely that that is the problem. They have done just fine for me in MI and our summer is shorter than yours. Posted by bonstance59 I live in pittsburgh, pa, and have had glads planted for about 4 years now. They never bloom, I only get the beautiful green spike leaves. What should I be doing? I don't did them up in the fall, I just cut them back. My guess, bonstance, would be insufficient light. They are sun lovers for those of us in the north. I've never bothered digging glads up -- I have neither the time nor the inclination -- and have had them successfully overwinter and multiple for over 15yrs now. Didn't buy any special variety -- these were just the big box store cheapos. (Amusingly enough, the only glads I did NOT have successfully overwinter were some "winter HARDY" varieties I tried out 8 or 10 years ago.) Now one very big plus working in my favor is that heavy snow fall is the norm. But even after some weak winters they have come back. A heavy layer of mulch should do as much. Personally, for those in the north, I recommend leaving a few bulbs undisturbed throughout the year. You might be pleasantly surprised. And if they don't make it -- you've only lost a few. Why don't furnace fans have a "timed" mode when using summer fan "ON"

Hi guys, I just had central AC installed a few weeks ago. I have a 2 floor home, main floor, upper floor ( bedrooms ) and the basement. I'm quickly seeing that the upper level never gets as cold as the main floor, and the basement is always extremely cold. I have closed ALL vents in the basement, and this helps to equalize the temp in the house, however, it seems that you really need to keep the furnace fan in "ON" mode, instead of auto, where it will shut off after the central AC has stopped cooling the house. However, what happens if you do NOT want the furnace fan running all night long ? I'm guessing new furnaces most probably have the option of a timed mode for the furnace fan... so to clarify.... you could have it going for a hour then turn it off for an hour, etc..... a real timed mode. Perhaps that doesn't exist, but I was thinking of that today...... I am just worried that constantly running my furnace fan will drastically increase my electric bill, and put a lot more undue stress on the fan. Running the furnace fan for even a week 24/7 is probably more than it would run for a full winter season when I'm heating. Anyway, thought it was a good topic, I'd love to hear your opinions. Hi wantoretire_did! Thank you so much for the suggestions! I've been meaning to get to HD and my local ACE for a walk-about. I'm going to go when I have a couple of hours and don't have to rush around. Just walk around with my trusty legal pad and take notes. Lighting is a big part of what I want to look at. I really appreciate your suggestion because that didn't even cross my mind! I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of the fixtures in my house are original, and at 37, they need to retire, lol! I just can't see paying some guy from CL for the rest of my life to come replace bulbs and wash the fixtures! I have electric burners, but I can see how that could easily happen with gas. I'm pretty much leaning against the ceiling fans now; cathyyg made very good points, and these seven ft. ceilings feel so low already, even at my height, that I fear the fans would just draw attention to them. We've got a good system with the fans now, and I don't think ceiling fans are as necessary as I thought they were when I first posted this. Yes! Taking lots of pictures! :-) I hope all is well with you and yours!

Based on my experience with the links that John604 referenced, I wouldn't buy from any of them.

Panasonic seems to be the most popular choice here.

As of right now, we're going with Fantech (link below). I like the overall look much better. We need a high CFM and most of them out there either don't offer lights or they have a high sone rating.

Fantech has optional grills, too. They don't even look like exhaust fans.

I haven't read anything truly negative about them anywhere.
