It looks pretty clear to me: NO.

Have you considered the Gaggenau convection oven? I haven't looked at the latest models, but we have our Gagg combi-steam over a Gagg convection oven and love it. The Gagg oven even has the really pretty blue interior. I liked the racking much better on the Gagg than the Wolf. It preheats quickly and hold the temperature rock solid. You can control EVERY element in the oven. There's rotisserie and temperature probe along with conventional and convection oven modes.

Unfortunately I have both ovens already. I understand if it voids the oven warranty, but will it pass inspection? The Gagg steam oven is the older version in aluminum finish, it is hard to match with the current gaggenau ovens (and the gagg convection in this finish is near impossible to find), so I thought the Wolf was different enough to look like a deliberate choice. I am ok with not having the warranty, but will it pass housing inspection?

You will have to ask whoever is doing your house inspection. Requirements vary by municipality.

Since Wolf does not make a steam oven, they are essentially saying you can't have one (with their oven), but with the proper precautions, I can't see a home inspection failing due to multiple manufacturers. Each oven will require its own electrical circuit.

In any event, you will want to take special care about possible leaks with the Gagg steam oven, since it has water coming in and out, sitting over another electrical device. We have a water shut-off valve at the point where the water goes in, and have routed the drain tube well away from the oven below.

thanks, good advice about the shut off valve and the drain tube. I found another thread on mixing manufacturers and the general consensus was that it was ok if the clearances were observed, so I will pay attention to that also.

Also, the Gagg steam oven is designed to have the pipes run behind the regular oven. The Wolf isn't designed that way, so you'll have to work with your plumber to figure out how to run them.

Thanks, Plllog. I am having the 24 inch deep tall cabinet (existing, to be modified for the new ovens) pulled out 5 inches from the wall to match the 29 inch deep run of cabinets that I am considering having custom made for that wal. That should allow plenty of space behind that cabinet.

Which leads me to another question for gizmonike. Does the supply and plumbing run in the back of your cabinets? My potential cabinetmaker said he would make deeper drawers to go with the deeper cabinets, but perhaps I should just use 24 inch cabinets and pull them out to leave a 5 inch space behind for plumbing between the steam oven and the sink? How much depth is needed for the plumbing? I believe that there is probably 2.5 inches between the back of the drawers and the back of the cabinets; is this enough for the plumbing to run inside the cabinets?

Yes, our plumbing for the steam oven is at the back of the stack. The space we had for the oven stack is at an angle to the adjacent run, so we have a "triangle" of free space behind it. We have a cabinet above and drawer below the oven stack, both 24" deep, pulled out.

Our water shutoff valve is located at the back of the cabinet above the steam oven, and we had half a box built to slide over it to protect it. We set tray racks in front of it to hold the steam oven pans, racks, and other small trays.

Our drain hose runs straight down through the floor, because that was our closest route to drain plumbing; our sink wasn't close enough to our steam oven.

Oh, that sounds good! Mine is in a more "standard" configuration. The water pipe and drain come up in the cabinet next to the ovens, where the valve is, then go straight into the lower oven cabinet and up to the level of the steam oven. It was the installer who put that part of the piping in, behind the big oven. With my GC watching.

Plllog, I didn't realize that you had one also. I like the idea of the shut off valve in the cabinet next to the sink since it would be easier to reach. Do you have drawers in the cabinet next to the ovens where the valve is? Do you think that 2 1/2 inches behind the drawers is enough to run the plumbing to the sink? If not, how much space is needed? I just realized that if I ran the plumbing to the sink behind the cabinets, that I would not be able to access the shut off valve.

My cabinet is a shelving cabinet (think pitchers) that runs up the side of the oven stack and opens perpendicularly. I think 2.5" might be cutting it tight but I think you're in the right ballpark. The best thing to do is download the installation instructions from the Gaggenau website, and look them over with your plumber and then with the appliance installer.

I'm sure it can all be made to fit, but since it's not exactly like the pictures in the booklet, it's probably best to get some expert eyes on it, including your Wolf question, rather than having to invent on the fly on installation day.

good advice, plllog, thank you. It's a lot of details to think about, isn't it? I've spent the last few evenings reading through all the installation manuals but don't see any other companies that limit adjacent installation to their brand only. So this surprised me.

Update- I called Wolf customer service today to ask about installing a steam oven over the Wolf oven and the staffer said that as long as the steam oven was adequately supported above the Wolf, and no components touched the Wolf, that it will not void the warranty. Hurray!

Oh, cool! "Non-standard" installs always void the warranty, so they wouldn't say that if they considered it a problem. I think the installation instructions show a full shelf between ovens. My cabinetmaker did one for sure. Helps keep the leaks out, besides supporting the oven. :)

DDo you think it would be possible to install the 24" Gaggenau combi steam oven in a 26" wide belo-counter-height cabinet? And with a small induction cooktop above?

If you are considering the plumbed version of the Gagg combi steam oven, you can only install it below counter height if you can run the drain straight down through the floor to a drain pipe. The more conventional way to drain the Combi is to attach its drain tubing to a sink's drainpipe, and since it drains by gravity, the Combi must then be at least countertop high and the drain tubing less than 16 feet.

Your other consideration with a below countertop installation is the oven control. The version we have has its controls slanted to be best read at countertop height or above, but the current version has an electronic screen and may be OK.
