Your money, your call. I'd take the burners I prefer on the US-made range and not worry about convection.

Take the made in Pennsylvania range over the Chinese POS.

Not only do the burners have a higher rating but much better heat distribution. They put the heat towards the bottom of the pan. Not almost half going up the sides of the pan.

I personally think the Blue Star burners are worth having, even at nearly twice the price, which is what the RNB would cost. At $2200, the RCS is a really good value. You don't get the color choice or the convection and the BTU's are a bit lower (but still higher than most other ranges), but it is a great package for the money. I think Blue Star pushes the RNB because it is higher margin but the RCS is truly the best deal. I cannot imagine considering an NXR over the RCS.

Can you tell us where you can get the Blue Star RCS for $2200? I was also considering the NXR 30", but this might be the better deal.

Nunyabiz -- I'm not really sure if anybody is a "hater" of the NXR and I'm not sure what nonsense has been spewed. I personally expressed a preference for a US made range and open burners over a Chinese built range at the same price, and I really don't think that's anti-Asian or nonsense, or a claim that the NXR is not a fine range or good value for money.

I expect that you know much more about the NXR than I do, and I don't doubt that some parts are sourced outside China. But I've only seen one web mention that the burners on the NXR come from a German company (which may mean that they're actually fabricated in Germany). Other parts may come from elsewhere, but the basic idea of a range merely being assembled in China -- perhaps with a few local parts -- from mostly EU and US parts, and then shipped here, and still labeled as Chinese manufacture is puzzling. Unless they are making a significant number of parts in China (and not just a sheet or panel or two), it seems a very expensive way to do business, whereas one typically looks to mainland to cut costs (for all sorts of products, including very sophisticated ones). And given the rather loose rules on nation of origin labeling in most jurisdictions, it would seem they'd want to tweek things just a bit to claim either EU or US "made" if they could -- it really doesn't take all that much. To be clear, I have no contrary knowledge here, and certainly no "evidence" of different manufacturing practices -- I'm just curious to know how you break things down and how you found out about all of it. Forgive me if I've asked this before -- I recall wondering about this once but I think I let it slide.

And all of that is quite besides the point of your own personal experience of the NXR range, which you know better than anybody. Your experience is your own, after all.

I hope, after all that, it's still ok, and not hating of any sort, if I recommend BlueStar, which really is US made and with which I really do have personal experience.

if you're in Canada the RCS with 15K burners (no 18K) and convection can be had for $2199 at Costco.

Sadly I paid $2999 for my 30" RCS at another retailer, as Costco wasn't selling the 30" model at the time (only 36" for $2999). But mine has the 18K burner, convection and they included the 8" vent extension and a smooth pull rack.

NXR vs BlueStar quality aside, I like open burners vs sealed, I like the star shaped burner vs round, and I think the BS oven may be larger as well.

I'll also choose the 'friendlier' product that hasn't been shipped 1/2 way around the world on a boat.

If I lived in China, I'd buy a range made there. I live in Canada, so BlueStar is about as close as I'm likely to get.

Oh, and Google Wolf vs Bluestar burner to see some comparisons, especially in the simmer end of things.

I'm not a zealot, and the BS is my first 'commercial' style range. But I have to say BS is an offshoot of Garland, is truly 'commercial' in its design and has few concessions for the residential market. Tons of sharp corners to cut yourself on, collect grease, get dirty etc. It's all about the performance of the burners.

So if you want a super-easy to clean range that looks pretty, and works just fine, buy a sealed-burner model like the NXR, Wolf, sealed Viking etc. If you want as close to a commercial range as you can get in your home, BS is a good choice.

I bought mine primarily because of the large oven. We would likely have bought the sealed burner Viking (wife wanted a black top, not the stainless tray like in the NXR) but the oven is TINY.

The large BS oven and the lower price sealed the deal. We're not chefs and will never really appreciate the apparent benefits of an open vs sealed burner.

Have heard this same manure from a few people.

The NXR is almost entirely made of sourced parts from Germany, Italy, Australia and the USA very little of it is actually "made" in China.
The NXR website states this rather plainly.

Also the Blue stars are not "the same price" they are on average about $500+ more from what I have seen.
We got our NXR for $1799.00 shipped to the door.

Biggest difference which is personal preference more than anything is whether or not you want open or sealed burners.

If you prefer open then go with BS, if not then hard to beat an NXR for the price.

The burners are the exact same burners used on Wolf ranges.
The hinges are made in Italy and strong as hell.
The sales person where we got ours actually opened the door on the floor model and stood on it with all his weight.
The stove is rock solid and well built, weighs around 350#

Also as far as the simmer on the NXR I actually tried the thing where you melt chocolate on a paper plate because I thought that must be BS. To my amazement it worked, the paper plate just got a light tan color on a spot about the size of a half dollar.

So if you need a lower simmer than that I would suggest just rubbing your hands together and wrap them around the pot.

The one and only thing I can say about the NXR burners that might be a hinderance to some though not to me is if you use very tiny little pots a lot. If you do then you need to use just the center simmer burner on its highest sitting with maybe the outer ring just barely on.

For normal sized pots & pans like anything over 9" just blast away, the 15,000 BTUs I find to be more than enough and enjoy having 4 large double stack 15,000 BTU burners that each also have a very low simmer.

Thanks nunyabiz -- seems straightforward about the components, although it does suggest (although I don't know for sure) that the steel fabrication and the basic box/door, etc. are done in China -- makes a lot more sense that they'd be left with an MiC designation, but still able to post the international sourcing of key components on their web site that way. Also seems to make more sense from a manufacturing standpoint, although that's hardly my business.

I tried to show you in another thread - NXR isn't untouchable. In a pro-sytle range, the Verona compares favorably with the NXR - FOR THE SAME PRICE @ AJ Madison. Bosch Dual Fuel, GE Cafe, KitchenAid Architect & Electrolux models - even a Kenmore Elite have different styling but can compete with (and in some categories beat) the NXR. And @ 36" the Ikea range beats NXR on price but is less powerful.

You claimed in another thread the NXR had zero electronics - go ahead & pull the plug. There's a lot of nonsense you are putting out there too. You say a a range is susceptible if it has any electronics - so is an NXR. Don't delude yourself (or anyone else) into thinking you the NXR is soooo impervious to heat - tt's not.

You claim to have such keen eye for quality - and ignore the numerous posts on this forum about fit, finish & crevices of NXR ranges. At least the control panel doesn't look like the rump of an 80's Saab after the redesign.

Look - you're happy with your NXR - but the fiction you are trying to weave should be pointed out. You try to cast anyone who posits that the NXR isn't uber-spectacular as a hater. Some might also cast a fervent NXR defender/inventor of facts as a fanboy - disconnected from reality & objectivity.

I am not familiar with the Verona however all the rest you listed "GE Cafe, Kitchen Aid and Electrolux are not even close to as nice and all are more expensive.

I do not consider a light inside the oven or a Convection fan switch to be "electronics" and there isn't anything else electronic on any NXR stove.

The Verona has 43K BTU total with cheap light little grates, pretty sad looking burners and no Infrared broiler plus has basically an Easy Bake Oven of only 3 cubic foot.
The NXR has 82K BTUs total, excellent burners and excellent heavy duty grates with a nice high end infrared broiler.

There is really ZERO comparison between the two.

Obviously you do not own an NXR and apparently know next to nothing about them.

ALL the Sears Kenmore ranges from the very cheapest at $350 up the most expensive ALL have electronic PC boards, along with many of the standard store brand ranges like Maytag, Amana, GE, Electrolux and so on all have "electronic panels" with basically a PC board in them and a control board with push button switches. and YES without any question those are very susceptible to failure and are costly to repair.

NXR has nothing of the sort.
Has an oven light, a convection fan, and ignitors for the burners and that is it.
Very little to go wrong with it with no PC board in sight.

Is it a perfect 1:1 matchup? No. But the Verona is hundreds cheaper than the NXR @ AJ Madison. And the Verona is Made in Italy - not China. The ignition module and flame sensors on the NXR are electronic. But that does not require a "control board" like you see on a mainstream range with self clean and features such as sabbath mode. Ignitor modules are cheap to replace.

Also, call me a fanboy if you want, but the burners on the NXR will not touch the open burners on my RCS Bluestar, particularly my specially configured "Bossanova" burner I have now.

And I ain't braggin', it's just a fact.

Also, one other thing. I already did a test in competition with Gary the Dodgerman and, guess what? Induction is WAY hotter and faster than ANY gas range for sale on the home market, including both Bluestar and the Capital Culinarian. (Assuming you can find a ferrous pot somewhere - induction blows chunks with Visions (gods I miss them) or my Costco Aluminum Non-sticks.)

It was one of my choices when I was looking for a stove, I just preferred the sealed burners and the much lower price.

Electrical and electronic are not the same, Nunya. Electric means "powered by electricity." This is a broad category that includes everything you plug in.

Electronic means "uses active components - tubes, transistors, diodes, ICs - to process or amplify a signal." (I am sure my friend Kas can provide a better definition than me.)

Anyway, your oven light is electrical. Your convection fan is electrical. These devices are thoroughly passive and only consume power. They do not process or amplify a signal.

Your burner ignition system is most definitely electronic. It does utilize a PC (meaning "printed circuit" NOT "personal computer") board. It uses active devices to sense (from a signal input line) the presence or absence of flame at the burner and then processes that signal to make the determination whether ignitor pulses are required.

While this functionality is rather primitive when contrasted with the more advanced "control" boards found on some "big brand" ranges, it IS still "electronic" strictly speaking.

Also, I think I should tell you that I bought my 36" 6-burner for $2800. They can be had for the same price as an NXR if you look around.

I will add that none of this is meant to in any way "bash" or disparage the products of NXR. They seem to me to be a fine brand, an excellent value, and enjoy a good reputation with lots of satisfied owners.

BTW nunya, the broiler on the BS RNB is fantastic, IMO. This hadn't been a big factor for me when choosing the range, but we've been really happy with its performance. Again, not bashing the NXR, but you mentioned the broiler as the only place you'd care about high output and I thought it might be of interest to the OP.

Yes I am perfectly aware the difference between a PC BOARD, which to me is and always has been a weak spot on ANY stove that has them, VS a "light bulb" and "ignitor" and a few various items that happen to have electricity running through them.
Seems as though I have explained this as good as I possibly can about 5 times now.

My gripe is with the PC BOARDS, they fail quite often and are expensive to replace. The worst ones are the ones on back of the stove and when you boil big pots of water on the back burners you gets lots of moisture on them.

NXR has nothing like this, neither does the Blue Star which is one of the many things I liked about both of them. They are a good mix of commercial & home range design.

Yes the Blue Star does have a very nice broiler, so does the NXR.
Nice infrared 1700 degree broiler, it glows bright orange almost turning yellowish so has to be at least 1700+.

The 15,000 BTU double stack burners on the NXR fit my needs perfectly, I have yet to find myself wanting for more BTU's.
I use mostly cast iron and a 14X23 steel griddle for cooking, someone mentioned "and zero woks" oddly enough I use my hand hammered 16" Wok all the time, just put on the Wok ring that cost a whooping $3 and it works perfectly. Depending on what I am cooking in the cast iron and griddle I almost always turn the burner on very low a few minutes prior to cooking while I get things prepared and when I start cooking the pan is hot as I ever could possibly want it. The ONLY time I really use the 15,000 BTU's to their fullest is when I use the Wok and on the Wok ring it gets hot as hell fast on full blast.

Boiling a big pot of water for pasta, I just put the pot on the back burner, add my salt, put the lid on it and get my pasta & sauce ready. Long before I am ever done with that the water is boiling away.
I really just do not have a need for burners putting out any more heat than what these do, using the cookware that I use in the manner I use them.
60 seconds here & there make zero difference to me. I do however like having all burners the same and fully adjustable from super low simmer up to 15,000btu

Blue Star was on our list of possible stoves, however the much higher price along with all the bad reviews we saw from people that had nothing good to say about them steered us away from them. Only one with more bad reviews than Blue Star was Viking.
I have only seen one bad review of an NXR and that one was clearly due to bad shipping, had nothing to do with the stove itself.

Now after owning this one for awhile and using it daily if someone were to say I will trade you my Wolf/Viking/Thermadore/Blue Star etc straight across I would decline.
I am perfectly satisfied with this stove in every way and for the price it was literally a steal.

If being a fully satisfied customer stating fact somehow makes me a "fanboy" (term used by adolescent children) then I wear that moniker proudly.

You are incorrect. Your NXR and my Bluestar BOTH have a PC component. That component is the ignition MODULE. NOT the ignitors; I am talking about the MODULE that both senses the presence of flame and provides a sparking pulse in accordance with a set of inputs. With all your replies, this simple concept seems to continue to escape you. I find this inexplicable.

Again, I repeat, when you say your range (and my range) do not have electronics YOU ARE WRONG. You are misinforming people. You need to educate yourself about your own appliance.

I ask you as a representative of those with the sense of a cockroach - do you have any numbers to back that up? I mean "very susceptible" is not like 1 in 10,000. It implies like 10-50 PERCENT.

I spend A LOT of time researching appliances and various other household items like Beds and TVs etc.
So I try my best to list what I have found out through research and once I buy the item I review it honestly.
We have replaced our stove, microwave, fridge, bed, TV, laptop all in the past year and a 1/2 so been on these websites quite extensively during that time.

I would have never bought an NXR if not for the several people on this site that raved about them, then after researching them I found virtually zero actual complaints, so for the price seemed like a great deal.
So far I have owned it for 9 months and have no complaints at all, it still looks brand new, not a scratch or stain on it and works great.

Keep posting your reviews. It's obvious GW is like so many other forums on the Web these days where having a thick skin is definitely an asset. It is perfectly possible to engage in productive dialogue in a civilized and friendly manner but sadly some folks seem to be untutored in that.

If cost were no object I would get one of the French ranges since I am so taken by the ambiance of a traditional kitchen (and in case its performance was disappointing I could just switch to something else............IF cost were no object...sigh). However, being realistic I am looking at other options. I must say your evaluation of your NXR and your comments on your cooking style are helpful. Do you know how long this range line has been sold in the U.S.?

Not exactly sure but I think only about 4 years, hasn't been very long though.

Yeah if cost were no object I would be living in an entirely different part of the country in a custom built house with a huge kitchen with about a $10,000 6 burner stove sitting right next to my 36" flattop gas griddle.

But sadly cost is THE object with me right now so the fact that the NXR works great and looks great to boot is a huge plus in my book.
when we sell this house in probably sometime in the next 6 years or less hopefully, it will be a big selling point and it only cost $1800.
Meanwhile I am going to enjoy it everyday.
