Here we go again.... car selection

Hey Everyone~

Here I go again getting another new car. My lease is ending in Sept. on my Jeep Grand Cherokee and I am doing my research now.

I think this time I am going into either a wagon or a small SUV or crossover.

My question is most of these cars have a 4 cyl. How does that compare to my 8? Of course I am going to notice a huge difference but is a 4 going to be a putt putt?

Divide the curb weight by the horsepower of the former and the new prospective and see which has more to drag around. I think you'll be surprised. Less weight also contributes to better mpg.

I would think a Chevy HHR with a 4 cylinder would be a putt putt?But a Chevy Equinox that has a V-6 you would like and not notice a differance.Because of the less weight and front wheel drive.Not transfering the power to the back wheels is a instant gain.

Test drive a Chevy Cobalt with a 2.2 4 cylinder and you will see its not a putt putt.But a Chevy Malibu with the same 2.2 will be.As Raginbull saids it going to depend on the weight of the vehical.If there is a V-6 option for the make and model your considering over a 4 cylinder then yes more then likley the 4 cylinder will be a putt putt.

Mid 70's here all next week but the night time temps are deadly! 33 degrees on Sunday night forecasted here in Plumas County. Already some of my plants are complaining. Beautiful old pets. It says how well you have cared for them that they could reach old age. In the wild, they never get to live that long. I was reading how the early people were studied and the idea is that most people only lived to 40 or so in the wild. Anyone who has passed 40 is living a gift. This is the gift we give our pets. A gift of a second life because they live twice as long as wild animals would. Every day with an older pet is a blessing. One more day to be together. That's how I feel about every day over 40. It's nothing to be sad about because it's a great gift to be able to see the people and animals you love and see the sky and work in the garden. I'm wishing the storms would not come and worry you. Would they let you clear the trees around the horsebox just so you wouldn't have to have that danger as a possibility. It would be great if you could have a small place to go to if you wanted to. Customers can be a pain but it's worse having a crazy boss. I've had great bosses and some really bad ones. My guy has a boss who is brilliant and also a lunatic at times. You wouldn't want the stress of that. I'm glad you work for yourself though it can be aggravating but still, you never have to worry about pleasing anyone but your customers. I hope you get to see some spectacular gardens that makes it worthwhile. Maybe you can meet a young designer just starting out to collaborate with for big things. Please winter, be kind to our friend and bring a mild spring and a peaceful summer to her graceful wood.

I have a song that I have loved from the first time I heard it. Most people know it now from the Jerry Lewis Telethon - You'll Never Walk Alone. This morning around 2 or 3 or somewhere in there, I googled it and found the original female singer. Just closed my eyes and took it all in. Got all tight in the chest and my eyes burned with tears. All the words are so true. Then today I went with my daughter to the Christian book store. Just walked around reading things. Found a bookmark with the serenity prayer. I gave it to my daughter as it has special meaning for a time in her life of few smiles and floods of tears, where alone was a defining word. Then I bought momma a large print Bible. Momma always read her Bible before going to bed. Now I don't know if her sight or mind can do any reading. It doesn't matter if all she does is hold it. I think it will bring back old memories and she'll smile. It made me smile just thinking about it and remembering. All these things were not planned, just did them. Momma said sometimes God has to yank you by the seat of your pants to get your attention. Each of these things had meaning to me. Now I think of the verse, "And this too shall pass". I feel more at peace with myself in not taking blame for what happened. Some days it's an effort to put one foot in front of the other without stumbling. If I stumble let me have the grace to accept a helping hand. It is not a sign of weakness, just a human trait. Don't walk so fast you miss the beauty of each day. Don't talk so loud, you can't hear nature's songs. Don't close your eyes where the rainbows you miss. Just open up and take it all in even if only for a moment. Lynn

Well, I did what Ken says not to do...I went tromping through some of the backyard, gathered up the HOSTA pots that came out easily amongst the snow...and lined them up along the north side of the house. BUT I only tromped on snow packed down. Ground still frozen. I just had to gather up the pots so I'd have something to "play with" without having to walk on thawing lawn. Then I went to the sides, "poked" around (lifted dead hosta vegetation but put back down) and I found signs of life! One green pip on one (one of four) of Doug Beilstein's streakers! Blue Cadet pips, real low to ground, but dark and shining! Plantaginea pips coming along the fastest! Things are finally happening here in one part of Ontario, zone 5! WooHoo!!!!! Jo

How about an FJ Cruiser? They're 6. I find it makes a big difference over the 4 cylinger Caravan I traded in on it. The FJ has great pick-up, is a fanatastic vehicle, if it suits your needs. 2 drawbacks for some folks--lower gas mileage (but since I've only put 2500 miles on it in the 8 months I've had it, that's not a huge consideration to me), and the visibility is a little different than most cars/trucks/vans I've driven--but it's easy enough to get used to. Other than that, it's just the best, 'funnest' car I've owned in over 40 years of driving (yes, the young fellows on our street call me the coolest old lady on the block and drool over my FJ--LOL).

Love mine--wouldn't trade it for an original Hummer (which, until the FJ's came out, was always my 'dream' car). Can't hurt to take a look at them. And it's a Toyota, so it should last a good long time.

If you are not going to pull anything you should be fine with a 4 banger. It won't feel like your 8 don't get me wrong but please test drive Honda CRV and see what you think. My car(s) for the last 25 years have been 4's. I drive them until 210,000 and then get a different one. I have stuck with Honda but now have a Mazda.

my wifes 4cyl elantra will stomp on my v6 buick and my v6 suv, up to about 75mph then it runs out of steam. the way my wife drives this is good.

Several of today's fours are well gear to the tranny so you would not know the difference in acceleration. No put put. You will definately know the difference in gas mileage. Also expect less cargo space but not less comfort.

Models to looks at are:
Subaru - several models, great reliability
Mazda - up and coming car company - check out the new CX 7. Great reliability. The Mazda6 is also a great option. Comes in a wagon.
Toyota - again, several models such as the Highlander. It's a Toyota - enough said.
Honda - CRV is an excellent vehicle, recently re-designed. It's a Honda!
Hundai - a couple of very reliable SUV's to choose from. You may be pleasantly suprised.
