Spin off RE: water heater and recirculating pump

We had friends that recently built new construction that put in a recirculating pump to keep hot water at the faucets at all times.

My builder and my DH think it's a waste of money and to get the return onmoney spent for the pump (water savings) would take forever.

Thoughts?

Our home is a wide-spread ranch with split bedrooms and nearly full finished basement. The water heater will be located in the basement very near the master bedroom, but far away from the kid bedrooms and somewhat far from the laundry and kitchen. Width of home is 90 feet.

What do you think?
