Here is a bathroom in a rental that I diy spruced up for $750. New tile, wallpaper, paint, medicine cabinet, light, overjohn cabinet, and shower curtain (sewed it myself). Van Gogh knockoff and wall pottery were from a yard sale. Maybe not for everyone, but it sure woke me up in the morning! (the provincial yellow is BM's orange creme).

Before (not bad, but missing wall tiles, and holes in the floor, and rusted medicine cabinet):

Before (again, not bad, but photo does not show moldy cracks in the tub surround):

After:

I did eventually put up a chair rail where the wallpaper meets the paint. It went up the same day I went into labor with ds. Hubby says he can't do mitre cuts without thinking about that day.

Oops! The floor doesn't show. It's daltile octagon and dot in white/cobalt. We bought an extra sheet and stole the little cobalt squares, put them in the tub surround as accents. I'll snap some more photos and post back.
