Here's an idea -- sort of odd but you can take it for what it's worth. I have done this in our home with a old 3/4 size oak high headboard to use a full-size mattress. This will only work if you do not want to use the original side rails and the footboard. Use a standard steel frame under the matress and box springs -- this is what provides the weight support for the bed and it's occupants. Then you can use some sort of a "coupling - board of some type to hook the steel frame to the headboard (does not have to be fancy cause it is usually covered up by the bed dressings). I stress again we are using this to transition from the 3/4 size to the full size -- and it looks fine (according to my wife -- she is picky as heck).
The diff in size from a full to a queen may be too much to do this -- good luck !!

A full size bed is 54 inches wide and a queen is 60...that's a difference of only 6 inches. There are "kits" you can buy to allow you to set a queen mattress on a full bed frame.

I am doing the same thing! I bought a French art deco bed that is 59 1/2 inches wide. I figure it will work out fine with a Queen mattress. My only challenge now is to attach the headboard and footboard to the metal bed frame. (The bed rails are 10 inches shorter than the bed and so are unuseable.) Any tips on how to do this?
