I do not know the difference, except that in the early research stages I nixed the II and chose the III. Can't remember why! But I just wanted to tell you that we LOVE our Aquia III. Comfortable, easy to clean, looks fabulous. It was a bit of a PITA to install (DIY) but worth it :)

katie, I was strongly considering the Toto Aquia also. Our plumber's office person told us the only difference between the II and the III was the III was ADA height. I'm glad to finally see someone report in this forum with real life experience on an install on the Aquia. staceyneil, it is good to hear you LOVE it. I, however, changed my mind and purchased the American Standard H2Option dual flush. I went with the H2Option because the water spot is considerably larger (9"x8") than in the Aquia (6"x4")and the H2Option MaP rating was 1000g versus 500g on the Aquia. I had read some bad reports on another forum about the Aquia water spot being so small you need to clean the bowl pretty much after every 1.6g flush. And finally, I saw the video online of the H2Option flushing all this weird stuff (hot dogs, golf balls) completely; I'm afraid that was the closer on the deal for me (blushing). Our H2Option will be installed next week... hope it performs well...

Huh, well we have not encountered that problem with our Aquia III more than once or twice. Not any more than other toilets we've had with much larger water spots. Not to be indelicate, but my husband vastly prefers this one because the bowl is really nice and deep; the other toilet in the house is a Kohler Memoirs (to be removed soon!) and he HATES sitting on it, and , um, "touching" the inside of the bowl. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

My only problem with the II (which I assume is similar on the III) is that my 2 year old tends to leave "marks" but thats only because her legs are too short to properly position her over the spot. That'll go away as she grows.

SO SORRY I haven't been back here since my original posting folks, but my bathroom demo got started earlier than I expected, we're in the thick of it now and I'm a bit frazzled. Thanks to all who replied.

Here's what happened. We decided to go with the Aquia III for the height, but ended up with the Aquia II. I had ordered the A3 last week, but only 24 hours later was informed it was back-ordered and wouldn't be available for anywhere from 8 to 12 weeks. After searching for an A3 elsewhere and talking to a Toto rep, I found that was true; nobody's got 'em unless they squirreled a couple away. The rep said the company seriously underestimated the popularity of the the A3. So that's how I ended up the A2. Now, I think I'm sorry.

My plumber  even though I gave him info I downloaded on the A3  is now saying he didn't sign up to install such a difficult toilet and simply can't do it for the price we negotiated. (As part of the work he's doing in the bathroom, he removed a very small upright radiator and ran new piping up the wall for our hydronic towel bars, which he will come back and install, along with the other plumbing fixtures, once the tiling is done.)

He didn't realize he would have to drill through my new tile floor to install the Toto...until I mentioned it to him this afternoon. I guess he didn't read the Toto install info I gave him.

I've certainly run into this problem with other plumbers in the past, when they've been faced with, say, a Porcher toilet, or even Grohe fixtures. I can't tell you the ruckus that Porcher caused with my then plumber. He put it in, but complained about it vociferously every inch of the way. I work out of my house, so I hear a lot about whatever looks hinky to any of my guys. A tap on my office door these days just sends a shiver down my spine.

Have any of you run into a problem like this with your plumber? I'm tired of being castigated for my plumbing fixtures. If a plumber only wants to work on American Standard and Delta I sure do wish they would say so up front.

Today's work culminated in a waterfall leak through the kitchen ceiling from the demo'd bathroom above (not the plumber's fault) and a heated argument between my tile guy and the plumber. They both went away mad. And these guys are friends!

Finally, I do have a question for any of you who are familiar with Caroma toilets: Is the Caroma install as difficult as the Aquia II seems to be? Caroma was our second choice when we considered toilets  the Adelaide Cube 270 was the one we liked. At this point, if the Caroma Adelaide install doesn't involve drilling into what will be my new travertine floor, I would return the Aquia and buy the Adelaide.

Please advise.

Now I think I'd like a hot shower. Oh. I forgot. I don't have one.

Well, our plumber was us (DH, mostly) and yeah I did hear a lot of complaints!!! Lots and lots and lots of cursing as he tried to drill through the tile floor. Did I mention it's porcelain tile? The nearly indestructible kind? Drilling the holes took literally 4 hours, including several trips to the hardware store for yet more diamond bits.

Once it was in, though, he loved it. And he really admired the way the install was engineered, so different from "regular " toilets. But the drilling sucked.

I hope you get your shower soon. My bathroom demo was back in July. I still don't have a working shower. (Had one for a couple of weeks, but now there's a tile problem that necessitates rebuilding the whole floor.) I'll keep my fingers crossed that the rest of your reno goes smoothly. It sounds like you're in the home stretch!

As a DIYer that installed an Aquia 2, I would have to say that it isn't that bad. Try and install the first generation Kohler Persuade. Now that was a pain in the butt. It went up tight to the wall so I had to cut out a section of baseboard to get it in. Not fun. Anyways, for drilling through the tile, get yourself a couple of diamond core bits from THK.hk. They're located in Hong Kong, have cheap prices and ship fast. Their bits are perfect for the DIYer. If you have a drill and a sponge (to keep the area wet) you can drill them yourself to keep your poor plumber from whining like a little baby.

OMG staceyneil, you STILL don't have a working shower? My problems pale in comparison.

I can see now that my poor husband may be showering at his office for a LONG time to come! At least we have other working bathrooms in the house, but the hall bath, which is the one being remodeled, is the only one with a shower. My bathroom has a big tub, but only a hand shower mounted on the deck.

We are still dithering about toilets  and plumbers. Even though my plumber has calmed down, he still has concerns about installing the Toto Aquia, which arrived yesterday, and is now sitting in our living room. I'm considering hiring a new plumber to install the toilet and wall mount vanity and counter top basin. The latter are Duravit fixtures, and I'm pretty sure the plumber will have Meltdown Part 2 over installing those items as well. I'm not sure I'm up for any more drama.

I've since found out that the Caroma toilet we're considering is an easier install and doesn't require drilling into the floor. That toilet's only drawback is that it's two inches longer than the Toto, and I may need those inches to make sure there's enough clearance for the shower door to pivot freely.

This is a wearisome process. I'll be happy to see some tile go up.

@advertguy2... how would you compare the Aquia II and the Kohler Persuade? I am debating between the two.

Would love to know what @kimkitchy thinks about the H2Option. Also, if I'm swapping out toilets, will these (Aquia or H2) leave any exposed holes from the previous standard type toilets? TIA
