Displaying old child's folk outfit

I hope this is the appropriate forum for my question. I have a child's outfit from Mexico, which I know was worn by one of my aunts in the 1920s. It consists of a skirt, probably wool, and a cotton peasant blouse, both heavily embroidered. The top has an intricately beaded image of an eagle holding a snake, and the skirt a similar image in sequins. It is probably a modern day child's size six. I have stored this outfit for many years, and now have the space to display it. I'm thinking of a shadow box, but have no idea how to approach this. Or would sandwiched between two pieces of acrylic with an acid free backing be better? I have seen pictures of antique clothing displayed as art, and want to achieve the same effect, with the added bonus that this is a family heirloom. TIA, and sorry for long post.
