While I still love my BainUltra tub, I had a few questions. I emailed BainUltra and they answered me. I will share the answers here.

I am disappointed with the feel of the cold air that comes out of the air holes when it is on.

Your BainUltra tub is equipped with a 700 watt heating element that is located inside the turbine. It is designed to prevent a drastic drop in the water temperature as well as to warm the headrest & backrest. However, the air heater will not heat the water. The cooler air feeling you may have been experiencing is due to your wet, yet warm, skin coming in contact with swiftly moving air. This phenomenon can be compared to using a fan on a very hot day. While the ambient temperature does not change, the fan recirculates the warm air, thus making the room and you feel much cooler because of the air hitting your wet skin.

Here are a few suggestions that will help improve the feeling of cooler air:

1. We suggest that you start the motor five minutes prior to filling the bath to warm up the shell and eliminate lukewarm air. Your backrest should then feel warm. If it doesn't, please call our technical support department. didn't try this yet

2. Use bath additives to create an insulator on top of the water. Huh?

3. Maintain room temperature where your turbine is located between 72Â°F (20Â°C) and 86Â° (30Â°C) difficult to do in Minnesota in the winter

4. Add a trickle of hot water while bathing.

5. Insulate the pipes if you have a remotely mounted turbine.

6. Do not sit too close to the jets. tried this, but it is pretty difficult to do with my tub and my height. I will be interested in my husband can do it.

7. During winter or when taking a bath, raise the room temperature a few degrees

I asked if the control light could be turned off. It is distracting when I walk into my bathroom.

The control light ( LED ) is designed to stay on all the time. Keep in mind that the control wire is always connected and plugged into the air turbine which the turbine is plugged into it's own independent circuit.

I like to sit with the bubbles for the 20 minutes, then soak for a bit. I couldn't believe it when the cleaning/drying cycle came on on its own, when I was still in the tub.

The automatic drying cycle on your control will always activate ten minutes after your turbine shuts off for a duration of 90 seconds. If you like to soak in your tub after your 20 minutes massage is over, the drying cycle will still purge for 90 seconds. The purpose of the drying cycle is to keep the air channels nice and dry ! So, that there is no remaining water leftover from your previous bath in the air channels. The ten minute waiting period is to allow enough time to drain your water out of the tub. The drying cycle is automatic every time the air jet system is being used. Once, the bath water has drained , it's important to activate the drying cycle manually ( if being used as a soaker ) or the drying cycle can be programmed on a daily purge at a set time of day. she never told me how to get is so it doesn't turn on when I am just soaking

I contacted ts about some of these same issues and more.
I was also told about starting the blower a few minutes before running the water. Turn the turbine OFF during the filling of the tub and turn it back on when you're ready to get in. I haven't tried it either.

I understand about the bubble bath additive being an insulator. The other night when I added bubble bath and the entire bathroom was cover floor to ceiling in bubbles (ok, a slight exaggeration :) ) it dampened the noise of the air jets so I'm guessing it could insulate the water temp too. Kinda like a cloud cover on a cold winter night. The earth stays warmer than on a clear night.

I'm afraid I won't be maintaining the ambient room temp in the winter and in the summer keeping the water hot enough won't be a problem for (hot natured) me. In the winter, I like to keep the house about 66-68. In fact, to withstand how hot I get in the tub, I have the bathroom ceiling fan on.

I've been not filling the tub as much as I would normally and letting hot water trickle. This is working.

Our turbine is installed in a linen closet in front of the tub. It's about 2.5 feet from the tub. DH put pipe insulation around ALL the piping around the tub and leading into the turbine.

minnt, do you know about the *secret* menu? I was told about this when I called to ask about the air jet intensity.
I felt very little difference between 5% and 100% :o And felt like something was wrong with the turbine. If you will press the uppper left menu button and hold for about 20-25 seconds, a new menu will appear. This gives you many more options. This is not in the owner's manual. Among other things it offers a lower intensity air jet setting. The same 5% to 100% but with more noticeable changes. For instance, the 5% is just a gentle roll. It also lets you invert the heated backrest. I don't see anything about turning off the control panel light. There is ab option in the menu that isn't self explanatory. I haven't had time to explore them all. Under "Drying Cycle" you have four options. Prog & Auto, None, Program, Automatic. I just set mine to none to see if it doesn't come on after 10 minutes....it did not :o I know it needs to but I'd like to be able to have it come on maybe 20 or 30 minutes later. I do the hydromassage first and then bathe. I don't like the race to finish bathing and get out of the tub before I'm blasted out! (lol) Ah ha! Reading the manual helps! To prolong the bathing session and delay the automatic drying cycle by an additional 10 mins, press the upper left button twice (when the drying icon is visable). This action may be repeated to further delay the drying cycle :) Easy enough! See Drying Cycle (Programmable) in the owner's manual if you want the drying cycle to come on at the same time every day IN ADDITION TO coming on after a hydromassage session.

Yea, yea, I should, read the owner's manual! I have about 20 of them to read, with all the new kitchen appliances, furnace, etc. Thanks for the info on the other menu. I had read your note, but just haven't tried it yet. I will definitely turn the auto dry off. I can remember to blow the tubes out on my own or else I will set it to come on in the evening, after I would be taking a bath.

The fact is laws of physics cannot be changed, and when you blow hot air into water it will cool it down no matter what brand of tub it is. Now Bain Ultra was the original air tub, their service is top notch, their parts and materials are top notch, and their design has only the bather in mind. Kohler is not a bad alternative, but all things being equal Bain Ultra all the way. Hope this helps.

wow thanks! I just used mine once, just moved back in after remodelling. Our remodel took so long that our tub is obsolete, no longer sold! (pro meridian 55) but I love it. And I don't have the manual (long story, lost in a flood) so thanks again for the tips!! I love how bubbly it makes bubble bath!

Just a quick update. I spent days reading material on air tubs and whirlpools and got my decision down to a 36 x 72" Jason and Purebath. To get an outside opinion, I called an online bath dealer in the Richmond, VA area where I used to live (Whirlpooltubs.com, Steve) and after discussing a lot of models, which he sells as well, he steered me to Mansfield, an UN-fancy company that offered a ton of features and everything I was looking for, at a nice price. I ended up with the Baywood 6 Ariance GentleTouch (air bath version) which has back jets with heated neck/back rest, heated silent air (all offer this), included neck pillow, chromatherapy. This combined the features I thought my husband might benefit from (back jets) with the surround air jets, in a quiet system, as we will put the motor on the other side of the wall with insulation. Mansfield offers the Ariance in 3 models: HealthTouch (whirlpool), GentleTouch (air bath) and DualTherapy. I would love to tell you what I think about this bathtub, but we are still building our home and are months' out yet. This dealer was on the ball and very helpful.

I ordered the Bain Ultra Meridian 55 (it is sitting in my new build waiting to be installed). I think it is very comfortable. I'm 5'4" and my husband is 5'10." We both found it to be comfortable, even with 2 people in it. I won't be able to use it until April though.
