Washers and Dryers for 30 1/2" deep closet?
Comments (3)Out of curiosity, I just measured depth of my Speed Queen 542. It is 28". My own "closet" is deeper than OP's but on-principal I've always used goose-neck connectors to my machines which minimizes hose-flex at the connection points. Additional depth to accommodate the hoses, then, is less than that required for the much larger drain-hose on the machine. I'd have to measure carefully, but I strongly suspect total additional-depth requirement of OP would work. The dryer's vent-depth allowance would be more troublesome, I would think. Here is a link that might be useful: Photo of...See MoreAnother laundry room ? Washer & Dryer in a closet
Comments (9)I can understand you wanting to expand your eating area and I don't think it would be odd to walk into the eating area. Alot of homes have a backdoor or garage door that opens up into the kitchen/eating area. What I would be concerned about is losing your laundry room. Are you planning on living here long term - ie forever? If not, then potentially you could affect your resale value and make your home harder to sell. But, if you have a closet area that would work well for a "laundry area", it's doable. Do you have a basement? Could you put the laundry in the basement? Also keep in mind that full size stackables will take up alot of room - they're over 27" deep. Compact stackables don't hold alot of laundry, so if you have a large family you might be sorry with the extra loads you'll have to do....See MoreIdeas for Side Venting a Dryer (and Washer) Installed in a Kitchen
Comments (31)We are on the cusp of placing orders for our appliances. So I wandered back by this thread and noticed the new responses. Mikelock, I love your "after" photo. We're about the finalize our layout, and I keep considering going under-counter instead of stacked. It's a lot of fun to see another real life installation. That extra run of counter must be so nice. Chris Park, thanks for your perspective on how the condensing dryer is performing for you. I was scared off initially by the many negative comments about condensing dryers, but I later became more hopeful when I noticed that many comments note that clothes come out with only an initial dampness - if that makes sense. We're finally going to place our order this week, after much heel dragging from me. The plan for a long time has been Blomberg units (the heat pump dryer sounds like a good idea), although in the 11th hour there is some temptation to order Asko units (condensing dryer) that would match the SS appliances. I guess we'll panic and select one soon!...See Morewasher/dryer closet + pullout pantry design--any thoughts?
Comments (7)Thanks so much. FWIW, to the left of the fridge, I want to put the micro in the upper cabinet and the toaster oven below. (so the fridge is scooted to the right. That 6" endcap is for the broom closet, if I can't find another home). But let me re-measure all of that area and see if there is room for the 15" tall cabinet. Always good to revisit. Thank you! The tall shallow pantry cabinet along the bedroom wall--you are astute! I have one there now (5' long) but...even a shorter one at 12" deep would interfere with the flow if we add an island. The current 48" wide aisle could potentially be cut to 42" but then I'd need to lose 6" in the island. (actually, we had debated making the island 4" wider, so I could have storage for books on the W/D side, but decided a 48" aisle might be good. I may still make the island wider). Another issue is that this corridor is in direct view of the front door, so today when I open the door I see that side of that 12" pantry. I'm trying to clean up that sightline and improve the flow. FWIW, I have a 1940 bungalow, so everything is smallish. Thanks so much for all your thoughts. If you have other ideas, I'd love to hear them. ;)...See Morejoeparr
