Was interested to know if either you or someone that you knew had had the injectable type of fillers? And what were the results?

I havent,but I'd like to know too. I'd like my lips a TINY bit bigger and heard Restylane was the best when doing that.

At a wedding this summer, we sat next to a woman who obviously just had her lips injected, they were so puffy, it was almost painful to watch her.

I wonder if there's a recovery period after being injected, are the lips puffier and then it goes down to a more normal and desirable puffiness?

I've seen it - have a friend who's a year younger, and has skin 20 years older than mine (sun, lifestyle, genes) and while the botox did wonders for her forehead, she needed the Restylane for her smoker's lines around her mouth - as I understand it, the success is mostly in the skill of the Dr doing the injections, sculpting the goop into the depression. On her, it took 8 or so months to really wear off, and she put it through a real workout (she smokes like no one's ever told her it's bad for her. really) she's been back twice in the last three years - wheras she's addicted to the botox, and is in there every 6 months like clockwork. I gotta say - when I'm ready for it myself, those lines are the only ones that bother me, and I'd definately consider the Restylane

Jamies, everyone is different so it's hard to determine what will work for you from someone elses experience. I've tried lots of things except injections and surgery, there are some scary stories out there and I worked in the medical field all my life, maybe that's why I've heard so much. Anyway, facial exercises really help a lot, don't cost anything and are painless. Ugly while doing them but do them in private. There are some books but you can find some sites with simple instructions, just google. Wrinkles are inevitable but better than early death, if you know what I mean, but moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. I just had to change doctors and he couldn't believe my age, he guessed 25 years younger. Wonder if that's what he tells all his new patients. I told him there was nothing wrong with my eyes but maybe he should check his but thank you anyway, LOL.

I thought it sounded like a lot of filler too. I've got a call in to Dr. D's office to clarify a few things. I know nothing about fat transfer, but will do some research. Dr. D did tell me that the area on my face that is starting to slightly jowl is not as a result of saggy skin, but I have excess fat in that area and due to other parts of my face on which gravity is taking its toll, the jowling is taking on more of a prevalent look. I don't know if I should be pleased to know that it's not just saggy skin but a fat face that I have! LOL!

3katz, I get Botox 4 times a year, 1/2 syringe I think, mostly in my forehead, between my eyes (those two vertical lines between my eyes, know what I mean?). It runs about $300 a session because there's a points program you can apply to future costs. Where I go this would cost Ida $600 since she gets Botox twice a year. I don't color my hair. If I did, I'd need a touchup at least every 4-6 weeks. I'd want it done well. How much do I save not having to do that? I just looked at prices on a couple of invoices I saved. With discounts, I paid $875 for Voluma and $495 for Restylane. The Voluma lasts a year or so, fills general low spots and deeper lines. I don't use it to inflate my cheekbones which are fine. Restylane is for my undereye area and will last 15-18 months. It's the difference between a hollow, haggard look and a smooth area that doesn't look "done" at all. So, based on my usage, it costs me maybe $200/month, although I don't get stuff every month. As others have said, we all have things we care a lot about, that others would consider nonessential, even frivolous or shallow. Why shell out money for new bedding? Who's gonna see my bedroom anyway, and why do I care what they think of it? My car is 15 years old and it drives just fine. If I were unable to afford groceries or pay my utilities on time because of my vanity expenses, I would have a problem. I have enough of what I need. I can even give some away. If someone wants to feel better about their appearance (hello, makeup? haircut? laundered clothes?), go forth and do so.

Yes mitchdesj,at first they are much more puffier because of swelling from being injected.Then the swelling is supposed to go down.
The only reason I havent gone through with this yet,is because I'am afraid of looking like that lady you saw.

I do know a few people who have had it done and you cant see much of a difference.That is what I would want...a very SUBTLE difference.

NOOO! LOL...I do have very thin lips though that I have to "enhance" every day with lip liner and it gets kinda old.
Too many celebs look freaky when they get those huge duck like lips.

I am certainly not against any kind of cosmetic enhancments or surgery. I do feel(for me) that restylane and botox is cocaine for the face. Once you do it....you'll always have to do it. I also heard that its stings something awful. I think i would rather have a chemical peel. They put you under(no pain) and the results are more permanent. Their is probably pain after you wake. But since the results last you dont need it done every 4-6 months. Of course a chemical peel wont fatten up plasticgardens lips either.

I tried Restylane on the marionette lines. I was pretty happy but can't justify the expense for a subtle temporary fix. I would never do the lips, I'm really not crazy about the look. Yes, Ninos, I am currently going through withdrawal, it's taking everything in my power not to do it again but I really, really want to!!

Well, I probably shouldn't admit this, but I've tried several things. I had an injury as a child that left a deep dent between my eyes. I had it filled with collagen when that was the only thing available, but gave up when I had to do that every 3 mo. About two or three years ago I tried Restalyn and I really liked it. It lasted about six months for me. I didn't put it in my lips though. Last fall my doctor suggested Perlane and it didn't work at all for me. I looked good for 2 weeks. Then the doctor suggested Radiesse. I didn't do that.

I've also had Botox several times. I really like the results even though it only lasts 3-4 mo. I do it when I think I can afford to spend money so friviously. And I make myself donate 10% of whatever it costs to a charity.

krisz, thanks for sharing your experience, I love to read about someone who actually had it done.
As for lips, my bottom lip is pretty full but the top one would need a little plumping; I'm afraid of having it plumped and ending up with a huge upper then the bottom is going to look too small.....

When you look at the young stars now, no one has small breasts and thin lips anymore............

Restylane is actually hyaluronic acid. I hear it works pretty well. I recently bought a small bottle in my health products store and love it. It's not an acid in the sense that it burns, but rather it helps your skin retain moisture & rebuild collagen.

After you wash your face, put on a small amount and then use your usual moisturizer.

It's wonderful stuff!

I found it in an independent health products store. By that I mean one that sells vitamins, herbal products, etc. It's possible the GNC stores, or other chains might also carry it. I paid about $21 for a 1-ounce bottle. However, you only need to apply a tiny bit to a dampened face, so it will last a long time.

I'm sure a Google search will give you a lot of information about this stuff, as well as some sources online.

I've been practically living on the MakeupTalk forums, as well as others, and have gotten interested in the mineral makeups, and more natural skin care products and oils such as emu, jojoba, coconut, etc. (mainly in an effort to try to diminish some wrinkles that are appearing with much greater frequency than I would like).

At the moment, the topical application of hyaluronic acid is a more affordable option for me.
