It's February 2012 - How's Your Build Progressing?
Comments (42)Wow - such great progress for everyone. @Beagles - BEAUTIFUL! @gbsim - great views and house! @Mel0569 - your kitchen is going to be wonderful. @ICFGreen - LOVE it all! We just finalized stone and roofing. Coronado Pro-Ledge in Dakota Brown and metal standing seam roof in dark bronze. Windows out for bid which we are holding on our breath on as it is a contemporary home with lot and lots of windows. The architect told me again today that I should start looking at the elevation for windows to compromise on. NOT until I see the bids. We submit next week for preliminary design review approval and should know by 3/15 if we can move forward with construction drawings. M...See MoreIt's May 2012 - How's Your Build Progressing?
Comments (73)Finally have started to be installed, and I'm excited to finally have some photos to share. More in the album I just created on Photobucket, but I will drop a few into the post here: Bookcases and windowseat in library. The seat has shelves in front and storage behind. Also in the library are cabinets, TV/media space, and more shelves: Kitchen cabinets are in. There is a spot for cookbooks at the end of the peninsula. Wood will wrap around the peninsula. Stove with vent hood above it goes on the back wall. Some of the mud/utilty/laundry room cabinets are in: View of the living area and kitchen from the master bedroom showing the 5" oak floors: Going on Monday to template the granite and they hope to install that at the end of next week. Comments (68)We are in the final 60 days and things feel like they've really slowed down. In August the walls were all primed (color tinted primer), the hardwood went down, some of our tile work was completed, we have railings on our stairs, beadboard went up in the mudroom. Electrical was completed as well as our heating/cooling stuff, fireplace was installed. The last week of the month is focused on built-ins and more tile work happening inside and siding, trim board and gable vents outside. September is going to be a big month with lots of fun stuff like built-ins and lighting and plumbing fixtures. I can't wait to get to the next stage and start seeing our selections come to life. stone up on exterior siding starting to go up! laundry room primed first floor primed and ready for hardwoods (which have since gone down) our master bath ready for plumbing installations and tile...See MoreIt's November 2012 - How's Your Build Progressing?
Comments (54)Robin...I built commercial construction projects all over the United States for 25 years and not once did we use caps on steel stakes for concrete forms and not once did we have an injury from soneome falling on a BLUNT end steel stake and injuring themselves. I did have several injuries from people smashing their fingers with a sledge hammer when setting/driving the steel stakes so maybe I should have had the workers put plastic caps on their fingers. Plastic caps are the norm on exposed rebar and that is standard in the construction industry. Your "Common Sense" comment is your opinion and it is pretty evident that you have not spent much time on a construction site as there are many more areas prone to more serious accidents than your "Rebar" scenario. And you asked how I would feel if I fell on the blunted end...the answer is I would feel pretty stupid and that is my honest answer that I am sure you will not like but you did ask....See MoreRelated Professionals
