marg42, I did a brief search on Modernaire but unfortunately they are out of our price range.

I've seen Vent a Hood come up a lot on the threads here, some good some not so good. I haven't looked that closely at them, though, since I was able to narrow down some models I like by Broan, Zephyr and Kobe. I think I've managed to narrow it down to the Broan E6400 or the Kobe CH-91. The Kobe would be $200 more but 720 CFM vs 600 on the Broan AND a lot quieter.

However, $700 was what we budgeted and I was hoping to actually come under that. So I'm going to try to check out some stores this weekend to see if I can test out just how loud a Broan can be and then hopefully decide which one to go with.

After failing to receive a hood from two other on line companies I was able to get my Broan hood from Appliance Best Buys for only a few dollars more than the cheapest place that didn't deliver. Broan e661 36 inch white delivered for $431.81

Thanks for the info, pinch_me. I was actually able to find the Broan 6430 for a slightly lower price through Rainbow Appliance (and also eligible for bing.com cashback). But glad to know that your purchase worked out.

Now I just have to figure out whether to get the Broan or Kobe...

Rainbow Appliance was one of the places that didn't deliver. Don't wait to order just in case. They don't always let you know they aren't going to fulfill the order. Watch for an order confirm and don't let many days pass before you get a tracking number. If no one answers your emails you might want to have a Plan B.

Oh really? Wow, good to know. Can I ask who was the other company that didn't end up delivering?

I assume you were at least able to eventually get through to someone to cancel your orders?

Our architect has recommended Stanisci for a hood liner for our custom wood hood. I haven't found much about the brand on this forum. Does anyone know whether Stanisci is a good brand?

I bought a Prestige hood. Because there were no dealers in Michigan, I was able to buy directly from the company.

Jcc813 - if you are in Chicago, I recommend you buy your hood at Abt, which is in Glenview, just outside of Chicago. I'm kinda surprised you don't mention it. Abt's reputation isn't just local, it's national. And the selection is wonderful. I find Abt's prices to be competitive, but not rock bottom. That's because there is a service component--they can advise you about hoods suitable for your kitchen, order a model they might not have in stock, deliver and install, and also, take it back if there is a problem.

Also, it's so much fun to visit Abt! I mean, it's 65,000 s.f. of appliances and video, and there's beautiful kitchens set up with high-end everything to look at. Plus the 7500 gallon aquarium.

I ran across them years ago when looking for mantel style hoods. I don't know anything about the quality but if you already have a custom hood, is it by them and that is why the architect recommended them for the liner too? I imagine there are lots of places to get the liners and am guessing that purchasing a liner from them may not be the most cost effective unless they are the ones doing the custom hood for you too. This is just my opinion, so maybe others will add their info. I haven't gotten to the point of figuring out my hood and liner yet.

We are also looking at differant hood liners.

The liners they sell are the Modern-Aire
ones. Does any body use a Best or Kobe
products?

That's really interesting about the Stanisci hood liners. Based on your reasearch, weav 2007, did you find a difference between what Modern-Aire charged and what Stanisci charged for the equivalent liner?

We just installed a Zephyr ak2536 over a Bluestar range.
I've had a lot of vent hoods (we moved every 2 years when the housing market was good) and I really, really like this one. It has 659 cfm, it's quieter than my Vent-a-Hood, kitchen-Aid or Broan models were at a third of their price. I paid $429 for the black finish at ventingdirect.com.

You will find no finer customer service for vent hoods than at Eurostoves.
