Depends on what look you're going for - contemporary? Then spend the $ now on frameless doors and get them installed. More traditional? Then do a shower curtain(s) and frame your mirrors. It's not that hard to do (I did it with a huge jigsaw puzzle in ds's nursery) after the mirrors are on the wall, as long as there's room. Only thing is you want to paint the back of the trim black so you don't see reflection of the wood where it overlaps the mirror. A mirror will be thicker than the jigsaw puzzle, so you'll need to route a channel in the back of the trim pieces where it overlaps the mirror, or else the outer edge of the trim won't lie flat against the wall. If you don't have the carpentry skills to DIY, ask your finish carpenter to do it - I'm sure it'll be a lot less than $200 per mirror (42" x ? each). Do you have pics of bathrooms so far (vanities, sinks, faucets, lighting installed?) so we can see what style is? Of course, oceanna's solution is much easier to DIY and looks so pretty (but more casual/contemporary). As always, oceanna, your painting is beautiful! I'd love to see your whole bathroom!

We've found a solution to the problem. We're keeping the existing door (undamaged) and the window contracting company is repairing the minor rot damage on the jam. It's the most cost effective solution and won't delay interior or exterior work. Quite happy about this! Here's what I wrote on my thread in the kitchen forum: After much discussion and research, we're keeping the existing kitchen door and addressing the jam rot only. I talked to a supplier about purchasing a custom made new rot resistant jam for the TT door (their old doors were an inch taller than all other brands). And then I talked to the owner of the window contracting company who suggested that since the rot was minimal, another option was to remove the affected wood, fill with epoxy and sand it smooth. Once painted, we'll never know that it was damaged and there would be no reason for further damage to occur (the leak that caused the rot happened years ago and has since been addressed). This is a cost effective solution that won't delay the exterior or interior work so we're quite happy about it. This company has an excellent rep (BBB, contractor's board, Angie's List, Yelp, etc, plus two suppliers told us that, hands down, this is *the* company to work with. Their work is excellent). They are conscientious about making sure that all installs are to code and won't cause water issues down the road. The amount of flashing, wrapping, etc that they are adding to our windows and doors is more than twice what our initial install had 21 yrs ago. You should have heard them mumbling about how poorly the house was flashed and how amazed they are that they haven't uncovered any dry rot (so thankful for that but it could have been a different story if we hadn't replaced the failed LP siding when we did.). This is about the smallest I have ever seen. US Horizon is the company, but they are owned by CRL and they have maintained this as a somewhat separate company.

It's a very expensive detail and one that really requires that multiple trades all know what they are doing. Tying the floor into it means that has to be executed well too. Even with the overlay base I did above in one room with builtins on two walls it meant that the bottom of the baseboards had to be scribed to meet the floor so they were perfectly flat and level on top. A reveal base is at least this tricky. In general I think this is a more expensive detail than buying the flush jambs and using a minimal conventional base. Some minimalist details price out at 5x or more than conventional details.They are the first thing that gets dropped due to budget. Painting them is more expensive too. You can clean them with the vacuum cleaner with a soft clean brush head or your finger wrapped in a soft cloth. Honestly the people who generally put details like this throughout an entire new build are wealthy enough to afford people to clean for them and don't worry about that. The plasterer and painter who I know that can do these details typically work for the local billionaires, hedge funders and ball players doing this sort of thing. I am lucky to have a carpenter who can do this because his degree is in fine arts and set design and he likes the challenge. But he works intermittently and the current bed and bath took two years. You can't build a house that way and the alternative is to pay someone a premium to do it at a normal pace.
