Source for shower door?

We are finally getting ready to redo our 50's master bath. Since we will not be reconfiguring the layout, I just want to re-tile the shower and put up a frameless shower door. I checked Lowes and Home Depot and was not impressed in what they had. Can anyone recommend a good online source?

Basco makes decent shower doors. Stay clear of the sterling doors that lowes and HD sell. They are a kohler company,but quality control is lacking.

The wilson glass company web site is a very good one for getting the nitty gritty. I called Basco and talked to the rep. Very informative. Seemed expensive but I haven't checked around much.

Hi there, friend! I am just setting out on a bathroom remodel, too. At least without a door, you won't have to worry about keeping the glass clean and using the squeegee all the time. Will there be other sources of heat, such as a heater as part of the fan or heated floors? Actually, considering your location, heat is not usually a problem. In fact, now that I think about it, I think a doorless shower would work well for you. Your experiment sounds like a good way to start. I also have seen showers that are spiral shaped, so you walk into the center to shower. DO you have space for something like that?

We recently got a Cultured Marble shower base. The advantage is that they can be created in custom colors. Though it is too early for me to start raving about it (because I have heard that maintainance is tricky) -- I am happy about the fact that they are single piece, solid surface (no leaks, no grout lines) and need no base preparation (vis-a-vis an acrylic base that needs the underside be prepared properly to avoid breaking). The downside is that they can be twice as expensive as the Acrylic ones. With custom sizing they will be even more so. You might want to get quotes from a couple of places. Do Google on "cultured shower pan" in your area. Hope this helps,

Hi Mimi, I went to a local glass store. I'm getting a frameless door with stainless handle. The door side is about 4-5 feet wide, and the other side is about 4 feet wide. It is about 6 ft. in height. Total price including demo of existing door, installation of new, tax etc. is $1550. Hope that helps! Lynn

Dream, In your original question, you were looking for a separate volume control. This allows you to control the volume of water coming out of the shower head. A theromostatic valve manages the temperature of the water. It allows you to set a temperature and just turn on the shower and the water will always be at that temperature. If you have a pressure change, in a thermostatic shower, rather than changing the temperature, you get less water but the temperature is constant. I am not sure why it would be more to install than a pressure balanced valve though. The functionality is in the valve and the installation is the same as a pressure balanced valve. The cost of a Thermostatic valve is more than a pressure balanced valve. I will post a video once I find it from a hansgrohe explaining the valve set up in the bathroom. I found it useful to understand the functionality.

One great tip I got from this forum and I pass on at every chance is to go *local*. You'd be surprised at the difference in charges (much less expensive to go local), and you get local service and help your local economy :) So in case I didn't make the point clear: in this case, and even to this otherwise-mostly-online-shopper, local is good :)

I'd be curious as to the cost (apples to apples) of the same kind of door, same thickness/kind of glass, between a local distributor of Basco and a real local glass fabricator...

My local glass guy wasn't much more than what I figured the Kohler one from HD would cost me and it included installation. I'm a mostly onliner, too, but there were a few things that I felt I could get as good or almost as good a price on and have the benefit of buying from someone I could look at!
