The roseville will bring you a few $$...but It's your parents. Don't you want some nice things to remember them by?
As for the silver, depends on the pattern and the condition.
But....why do you want to get rid of it? Maybe you have a child or grand child that would want it.
Silver is currently selling for about $17.50 a Troy ounce which is slightly more than an ounce on your scale. As a rule of thumb figure a very heavy silver gravy ladlew eighs about an ounce....but would likely sell for a minimum of $25....and likely 2 or 3 times that.
Clean the silver, keep it and use it!

We have each taken several items to remember our parents. This is the excess that we felt might be worth something and we wish to separate it from the stuff we are tossing.

Silver set is 1847 Rogers Bros IS Remembrance. The wooden box it is in has some damage and smells like mildew. I have no use for it, nor do my siblings (and the could use the money right now). Can't remember my mom using it more than a dozen times.

I'll look on eBay to see, but I think it might be worth more to sell by the ounce as you describe above.

Rogers Brothers Remembrance is plate, you won't get anything by the ounce. The only way anyone will pay anything for it is because it's a discontinued pattern and they want to fill out what they have.
Unpolished, and in a box that is damaged, you might get $35 for it all.

Linda, I also found a site where they replace missing pieces from collections. They have a page to register if you want to sell silverware through them.

I was also thinking that I may ask my nieces (my mom's granddaughters) if either of them want the silverware; once I count everything to make sure it's all there. Looks like service for 12.

I should think that a set for twelve of that pattern, if the plating is in decent shape, should go for considerably more than $35.

If you sell it to someone who wants to use it...you might get $100 to $150...but Replacements will only give you about 1/3 of what they sell a set of plated ware for...and 1847 Rogers brothers is not the best quality plate.
Check out ebay, Those that are asking a high opening aren't getting an opening bid....and the rest is selling for under $50.

Roseville has pretty good values and there are lots of collectors. There is also a book that gives values. However, the two pieces you describe might bring $300 or so. Again, check Ebay. Don't know who needs the money but no one is going to get rich on the stuff you list.

If you do a search on my name you'll find several threads from when I faced the same dilemma as you . . . where to sell silver flatware? I learned that I could do better on eBay than selling to Replacements. But in the end I became so attached to the silver as I researched it that I kept most of it. Anyway, you might find the discussions interesting.

Agreed that selling it to an interested buyer is the only way to really get the money out of it. I wouldn't think twice about going to $150 on it and using it. That would be one I'd advertise locally to sell as a set to a private individual.

The Roseville is a collectable, but it usually doesn't bring the price Weller or Shawnee does. Like any collectable, the quotes you see for estimated value only work if you find the right party. Selling to dealers, you will only get a fraction out of the potential value. But, an easy sale.

WOW, such interesting discussions over what my siblings considered trash!

I do not have the time this week, but plan to count and clean up the flatware. Jaybird, I will get back to you on that.
