DCS DishDrawers are the same as F&P models. F&P owns DCS.

The are all made by the same company. I love my dishwasher.

Yep, this is standard for F&P/DCS units. In fact "The unit had some crazy intallation requirements as well. We had to make sure the entire cabinet and wall cavity was painted with an oil based paint or poly-urethane to protect from the steam. There was some crazy weather stripping we had to apply to the cabinet as well, again to protect the wood. is completely normal for all all F&P drawers. Why? Simple, when the lid opens, steam will escape in all directions, including under the cabinets. With regular DW's, steam can only escape via the front. You have to learn to think a little differently with the drawers, from installing them to loading to the amount of detergent (try filling the cups only 1/2 full) to operation. But they are worth it.

I have experience with the benefits of both if that counts? One drawer is about half the internal real estate so it's best suited for singles or a couple who don't use a lot of pans making dinner or prefer to handwash cookware. Otherwise, you'll need to run it twice if you're also washing plates, flatware and cups. A single drawer may leave room for other kitchen storage which is a huge plus. A family of 4+, heavy cooks or folks who entertain often would prefer a full machine at 18" to one drawer in terms of perceived use. I have two drawers in my apartment and I've not wanted to change it in 7 years. At the summer house it's a full-sized machine and b/c we cook and entertain more, it's ideal -- though I'd be happy with two drawers there too. My feeling is an 18" machine would appeal to more peeps for everyday use than a single drawer, unless you know it's for a groovy bachelor pad or non-cooks. Meh, hope that helps.

Honestly, if you are a beginner, you would be better off with an all-one-color pattern to develop your skills. You could be practicing ribbing, cables, basketweave for example. There are a million fun patterns, even some that you work in an image. The last one I did was an owl, and it was very cute and fun to do. Did you join ravelry.com? You should. As much as I love GardenWeb, Ravelry is super-active with hundreds of patterns and forums to help you which have more traffic than here.

I used to visit this site when we first bought our house, and loved seeing all of the fun table-scapes that I'm pretty sure were posted in this forum. (Is this the right one?) My collection of dishes is small compared to many of the ones I saw here, but I still have too much for my small home. And with two small kids, I barely have time to get food on the table, much less have fun in the presentation. I have a bunch of Bordallo Pinheiro fall/turkey/thanksgiving dishes and serving pieces that I collected, that I've never used, and probably never will. I'm on a decluttering kick and would like to reclaim the space it is taking up. Is there anyone local that would like it? I don't want to just donate it to the places I normally donate stuff too, since it is so breakable (and kind of appeals to a special person, haha!) But I would love to find it a new home where it would be loved and used! If you are local, and would like it (for free), please message me. I'm in Silver Spring.

ReeRee! I haven't seen you around the Dec. forum in forever! I have the FP dishdrawers. Things I love: They are two independant dishwashers! If one is full, I can run it and continue putting other dirty dishes in the other! No more dirty dishes in the sink! I am looking into putting in a single drawer in my basement wet bar. The racks come out, so you can place trays or large pots in. You can basically take this baby apart pretty easily. A glass broke and some of the glass fell below the big metal base. VERY easy to take apart and find the missing glass sliver in the waste screen at the bottom.
Things I DON'T love: The bottom drawer is noisier. A technician told me it was because there was no insulation below it, so it was noiser. Can't really think of much else right now. I am happy with the washing capacity of it. We are a family of six, so we can fit most of our things in one drawer. It has a good capacity.

kmcg85 OMG! So good to 'see' you! I am just seeing this now, after a month, believe?? I recently got back into the swing of the GW..geezz..you miss so much when absent!

Thanks for filling me in about the dish drawers. I knew DCS was made by F&P, just different fronts.( better match to my appliances.) I know people either love them or hate them. I still haven't made a decision yet... it was either the drawers or a Miele...wow..fits enough for six people, that is also good to hear. Also I like the no dirty dishes in the sink..lol do you use top and bottom for dishes & glasses? Also, is it a big job to change the plumbing? Did you have to paint the back wall with oil paint?? sorry for all these questions. Thanks again!!! Hope you see this!

Sorry! I am here sporadically. Just got a new puppy in early Feb. and she eats up all my time! Not to mention my hands and anyhthing else she can get a hold of. I haven't been here as much. She chews on the cord to my computer! Anyway, the dishdrawers were not a DIY. They were installed when I had the kitchen remodeled 3 years ago. I KNOW they didn't paint behind with any oil paint or anything else. I don't know about anything else. Sorry. I am going with the one drawer in my basement. Who wants to lug dirty glasses up and down the stairs :)
