36 inch gas (LP) cooktop - Wolf, Bluestar, or Miele?
Comments (22)Thanks for the links. Those are interesting. The Wolf burner is a different design from those videos, but I don't know if it is now better or worse (although it does seem to address some of the complaints). I also don't know how different the cooktop burner on the bluestar is from the range burner shown in the video, but my hunch is they are the same. The idea of an open burner being more even has always made sense to me and appealed and the videos seem to confirm one's intuition on this. As for the Capital on the website mentioned above, they do have a rangetop, but I don't think they have a high end cooktop in gas which would work better for our current kitchen (although their rangetops would look better here than the rivals rangetops from what I can tell because it seems to be a little more slim). In any event, we don't have a Capital vendor here and so even if it were the best product (and it sounds like many feel it is) and it matched, service would be enough to scare me off probably based on where I live. Thanks again to everyone for your input! ps for Miele reliability, it is only one datapoint, but my mother in law's works hard and is like new. She is going to be appalled that we bought something else. (And given how nice hers is, I thought that would be the direction we'd go, but my wife surprised me by picking the Wolf and I felt like given that each one had strengths and weaknesses I felt like this was a good choice, but I also felt any of the three she'd picked I'd have been able to say that about)....See MoreMiele gas cooktop vs wolf gas cooktop
Comments (4)This thread is ten years old already. I’ll go ahead and comment for the benefit of others who may still need the insight. I can comment knowledgeably on a Wolf gas cooktop. But I’ve only had a Miele electric induction cooktop. Customer service-wise HANDS DOWN Wolf wins. Miele is notoriously lacking in this regard. Call Miele, you get an uniformed agent answering at an offshore call center. Call Wolf, you get a person in Wisconsin—where the unit is MADE. As for help with any malfunctions, I’ve had my Wolf for less than a year, so it‘s hard to say. It‘s been working beautifully. In my research Wolf’s largest burner had the most BTUs of any among its competitors, yet it also allows for gentle simmering. In fact, one half of the dial is dedicated to simmering. My Miele was plagued with issues. Of the four Miele appliances purchased for my last home, I had consistent issues with two. I can only assume Miele dependability is a toss-up. Comments (9)It is kind of a tough time to buy a wall oven right now. We really haven't had actual user reviews yet on Bluestar and the "m" as they are so new. I think you need about 6 months of reviews unless you can go try them yourself. There is also the blue enamel issue with Wolf and that may take years to see if that is resolved. Electric ovens with all the modes can be tough to get right, as far as heating evenly. When you combine that many elements and fans controlled by a computer and then balance it with the radiant heat from the walls of the oven it can be a puzzle box. I am not sure how much the Gaggenau has changed. I always take marketing material from whatever source with a grain of salt. I do quite a bit if baking and if I were buying a wall oven now it would be a Gaggenau or Electrolux. Electrolux has recently changed their design to have dual fans and you can now leave the racks in while you clean it. It worked great with just a single fan. The door may be slightly lighter. I currently have Wolf DF range and it is very even but so is my Electrolux. I tend to use them loaded periodically which is a good way to tell. I use the Electrolux daily. The Wolf has become nonfunctional now due to the chipping of the enamel. I also use all the modes. I am kinda with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp so not sure what benefit the tower of fans in the Wolf and even dual fans in the 30 inch Electrolux oven will provide. I do think the dual fans is a good thing in the 36 inch oven. I think the BS looks promising but is such an unknown and BS seems to release products and let the customers test them, as in the Platinum range. It does hold a full sheet but I would ask if it has variable fan speed as most higher end ovens have a slower speed for the bake mode so it is less drying and then higher speed for roasting and dehydrating. They might just have the fan on and off They also mention that the preheat is very intense heating and food cannot be in the oven during that cycle so I would want to know how that works. Because of the intense heat, some ovens that work that way don't allow the preheat to come on until the temperature drops by 150F or so. They can struggle to keep the temperature high enough in the oven. I would read all the user guides and warranties as these may give some additional insights....See MoreWolf Induction Cooktop vs. Wolf Gas Cooktop??
Comments (26)I saw the newest Wolf induction cooktop and I was impressed with its versatility. Specifically, I am speaking of model CI365T/S. I really like the burner layout with the four burners that can be bridged on one side and a larger oval burner on the other side. It offers what seems to be the most flexible layout. There are other induction cooktops with "flexible" zones but they are in a layout that is less versatile, most commonly with a large round hob in the center and the flexible zones on either side. My building does not have gas so when I upgrade, I will be looking at induction. As of now, I think the Wolf is my favorite but I am a year or two out and something new may change my thinking....See Moreelizpiz
