Comments (2)Well, you put in a pre-slope, so that's good. I think the water will find the weep holes through the mortar (which is porous), so don't worry about that. As for the curb, if the CBU was screwed at the tops only, then it's going to be fine. It's another story if the screws were applied on the bottom/inside near the floor, since water can get through. But "top/inside" should be fine. If there are screws through the bottom/inside of the liner (near the floor), then unscrew the CBU, patch the bottom holes, and put the CBU back, screwing it only near the tops....See MoreQuartz mistake- Should I have them come back?
Comments (16)If they centered it on the window then, I think they need their eyes tested. It is no were near centered on that window. It is not centered in the cabinet either. It would annoy me a lot to if it were my kitchen. I am trying to get over my problem of needing things perfectly level, aligned and/ or symmetrical. I try to tell my self that it's not important in the grand scheme of things. I'm not quite there yet. I would certainly ask them to come back and measure it out though just so they have to acknowledge that they messed up. Most likely, if you don't point it out to others, they will never know it. Unless it is one of my siblings that sees it because we are all bad that way. I think it's a genetic thing or something happened to us inour childhood and we all need therapy....See MoreBad Tile Job? Comments (32)"Of course not and I don't think anyone suggested that you should. Are these the same people who went to school for three years to learn their trade? " No. These were people in the US. My point is that I see work done here in my house that is so far off (literally) that it wouldn't even occur to me beforehand to spell it out in a contract (like, no crooked outlets, not painting the windows shut, etc.). In contrast, a trained crafts person, whether trained in a three-year vocational program or by years on the job, won't deliver something like that because (a) they probably can't even do such a subpar job and (b) know what the minimum standard of work is. I think my point is that I am justified to expect straight and even grout lines, without having to specify this. If the tile choice or walls or whatever make this impossible, I would expect a tiler to tell me that ahead of time and offer possible solutions, which I then can follow or not. My other experience is also that once you've eliminated the obviously fly-by-night outfits, the price is not necessarily an indicator of how good the work will be. However, this is veering off into a different discussion. The OPs tile job, while not perfect, is way better than the tile job in my house....See Morefixed frame vinyl for shower stall; prudent choice or mistake?
Comments (7)re: windows on Washington sounds reasonable to me. im not familiar enough with the materials used in the cranks and mechanical linkages... i assume they are powder coated or other wise painted in some manner? this is a huge long shot... but you ever hear of water resistant hardware? glass fiber reinforced plastics or SS? i cold conceivably have them powder coated, or enamel coat them myself inside my oven... too much work i know... just thinking out loud here. appreciate the feed back WoW. re todinmn: this is a Houston home. should have mentioned that earlier. i made a mistake in stating 60" its actually 47-48" from the floor. 60" was from another window measurement. there is 0 chance i could raise it up that far. i have enough brick for maby 3 courses. ive never tried to find matching bricks for sale though... nor have i researched other options. i admit to being ignorant as to the cost add on for tempered glass... what would you estimate? any ball park figure wold be appreciated here. regarding the general project: gong to start calling the window places next week. the big suppliers in my area is through ABC building supplies and the big boxes. Im assuming i should not even bother with the home depot only simonton Vantage Point windows?...See Morehmsweethm
