Seems like it's best to shut the grill off at the tank anyway, when finished griling, so your hubby's technique is a bit crude but workable. It bypasses all the potentially low quality fittings on the gas knob, so it may actually be slightly safer. Depending.

Thanks for the quick response. After posting my initial message, I called my local gas company and explained what I had done. They told me that I needed to remove the regulator on the grill. They cited the reason as the regulator that is currently on the large Prop. tank will regulate the flow of gas to the grill. They mentioned that if I left the regulator on the grill, that the flow of gas would be less than needed to operate the grill correctly. Does this sound like it is correct to you? I tend to agree with asolo in that if you are that unfamiliar with gas piping you may want to get a pro involved. That being said, I can tell you a couple of things. There is no need for individual regulators in an NG system. The gas pressure is set at the house main. As to the mystery fitting on your supply line, without actually seeing it I can only surmise that it is prbably either a 5/8 or 3/4 flare adapter. If you have a digital camera and would like to email me a pic I can possibly tell for sure. What are you using to try and loosen the fitting? (I have found that WD works quite poorly as a loosening agent.) There is also the possibility that whoever installed the fitting may have used a hardening style pipe sealant which will complicate matters. If you have the room a couple of large wrenches with cheaters (pipes slid over the wrenche handles to provide more leverage) will, usually, break things free. Make sure to use 2 wrenches, one to turn the fitting and one to stabalize the supply line. I notice you don't mention a shut-off valve, I hope there is one or that you are going to provide one. Please be careful and weigh your options fully. If you are not comfortable working with gas lines you probably should get a pro.

I got a 30" NXR. It has no BTU loss if the LP conversion is done by the factory or distributor. They can't guarantee that if you have it done on-site because each one of the little orifices has to be properly aligned or something, and it gets messed up often. My range has 4x 15,000 BTU stacked burners and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I was also looking at the GE cafe but I didn't care for the fragile-looking electronic control module, nor the BTU loss, nor the price!! My NXR DRGB3001 was $1899 including the LPG conversion, ready to install. I could not be more pleased with the performance so far!!!!! (excuse the unfinished kitchen, please!)
