unbelievable, they had a substantial increase in price last January as well. we had to cough up way more money than planned :(

I just don't get it. The country is either in, or going into a recession, gas prices are high, the stock market is shaky, people are getting laid off, foreclosing on their houses and appliances keep going up in price. It is simply amazing to me.....

I'm interested in finding out what the Miele Induction cooktop will offer once it's released here in...April, I think. The price is going to be very competitive with the GE Monogram Induction, which was on my short list. The thread about the power sharing with the center burner and the rear right burner kind of has me wondering what other kinds of 'gotchas' there are with this line. The Miele manual shows that the two pair of smaller burners power share, but the large center one does not power share with any other burner. We are not even beginning our demo till spring, so I'm planning on taking a look at the Miele as soon as it comes out in this country.

I read this thread with interest as I am planning on purchasing 2 GE Monogram appliances (gas cooktop and dbl wall ovens) in about 6 months for our new home being constructed.

What confuses me though is the supposed price increase. In 11/07, I had US-Appliance.com email me prices for the Monogram series. I have saved them in my inbox. However, tonight I rerequested the prices, and they are actually lower than they were 3 months ago!! The cooktop I want is $100 less and the double ovens are about $300 less! So do the prices of these things fluctuate? Are they just telling us 7% to scare us into buying them faster?

I may go ahead and purchase what I want today (1/31/08) from US-Appliance and see what happens on February 1st and if this price increase truly does take place. If it does not, US-Appliance offers a 48 hour cancellation policy on appliances with no penalty. They will also store them until I am ready to install them in our new house. The only drawback is that the warranty starts on the date of purchase, so I will only have about 6 months of warranty unless I purchase the extended warranty.

I'd love any of you seasoned appliance buyer's opinion on all this! It just doesn't add up and I don't want to be scared into buying something (although what I want now or 6 mos. from now is the same) so I guess it doesn't make too much difference other than the warranty.

Any thoughts?

I called US-Appliance and had a salesman tell me they were expected to go up 10-20% but probably not until Monday. Now is this just a salesman talking? Dalerbb66, did the salesman you spoke with tell you specifically that it would be 7%. I'm so confused and don't want to make a hasty decision I regret but don't want to pay 20% more for the same appliances in a few months!!

Nancy, my quote came via e-mail. It states, "This quote is good till noon January 31st for Monogram. GE Monogram will have a significant price increase on February 1st.". There are then two sets of numbers quoted for each appliance: one before and one after the price increase. I calculated the 7% by simply comparing the total price before and after the increase, i.e., $12011 versus $11241 (which, to be more precise, is right around 6.85%).

That's all the information I have!

dalerb66, Would you mind me asking where you got your quote? I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order the cooktop and ovens I want today before the increase and then purchase the extended warranty (so basically I'll pay about what the increase in price is but have a longer warranty with it). I just want to make sure US-Appliance is offering the best deal on what I'm after so thought I'd ask you, if you don't mind sharing the name of where you've been looking. Thanks!

I would believe this. We were able to get special GE pricing through DH's employment, but we were warned that the prices were going to increase by about 7% in early 2008, apparently because the price of steel has increased (although that's probably just an excuse!) So we placed our order at the end of December, and have been waiting to see the increase.

What doesn't make any sense to me is why US Appliances prices were actually higher in 11/07 than they were when I requested quotes yesterday! Do they try to get rid of last year's inventory at a reduced price (kind of like cars?) or maybe it's just a bad economy and they're trying to push it out the door? Who knows! I'm just baffled by it all, but I'm about 99% sure I'm ordering what I need today and just hoping I'm not being duped by a salesman!

Did the price increase?

I just called and the guy said that the new prices are starting this MONDAY. He said that you have to order GE Monogram OVER THE PHONE and that you can do that TODAY until 6 PM EASTERN.

Not from where I'm at- new prices are being loaded into the system as I write this.

Expo seems to not care about the increase- I did a spot-check of both Monogram and Profile and it came back 2007 prices.

kat ofhb -- Do you work for Expo? How do you know that "new prices are being loaded into the system"? Does Expo even provide GE Monogram prices on-line?

The Expo website indicates there is a 10% savings until Feb. 3. The 10% savings is exactly what I just got from US Appliances (I mean 10% off the prices they sent me six months ago).

I'm building and looking at lots of appliances. I like the GE Monogram walloven with the Advantium oven. I was told the price was increasing Feb 1 as well but that you could get the old prices as long as you purchased by Feb 3. After researching, I called up and ordered them over the phone this evening with the store I had previously visited; I was given the orginial quote. So I think you have two more days to buy?

I also ordered my appliances from US-Appliances yesterday (GE Monogram 36" gas cooktop and double wall ovens) and the gentleman who took my order said that the price increase would probably take place on Monday (Feb 4th) and he told me exactly what the 2 appliances I was purchasing would be with the increase. I basically saved about 6.5% by ordering them yesterday.

If you look at the US-Appliance website, it doesn't actually say they will increase on "February 1st," just in February. I think I read it as Feb. 1st when I first looked though. Regardless, he was very clear that they will increase and I'm happy that I went ahead and saved about $260 :)
