We replaced all our Thermador appliances. They constantly needed repairs and the repairs were very expensive. Getting rid of them is one of the best things about our renovation.

I have the Monogram Trivection. One reason I bought it was because I had a friend who loved it and because of the comments off this forum. My reno is almost done so I can't wait to use mine.

I can't answer your question, but I have a couple for you. What makes these "speed cook" ovens. Do they use microwave technology? Are they energy savers as well?

Speed ovens are so-called because they have in addition to convection unit a microwave built-in.

They invariably have smaller cooking areas than plain or convection built-ins. The Thermador is undoubtedly considerably larger in the cooking cavity than the GE models.

Turbochef makes the Rolls Royce of the speed oven industry and has been making them commercially for years and has been selling them in single or double ovens for residences for a couple of years. Then again, they are very expensive.

The more gadgetry in an oven the greater the chance for repair work being needed. Since Bosch/Siemens bought Thermador I believe their quality has improved substantially. If I felt like I needed more than a good Thermador convection oven I would probably get the Thermador speed oven.

Then again, there are the refrigerated ovens made by TMIO where you can put the food in the night before and set it to cook in convection mode when you want it to be done. They are also very expensive. But then you don't have to wait at all after you get home from work or whatever.

Greg, the Trivection ovens are the same size as the standard convection ovens. Yes, the Advantiums are considerably smaller, which is one reason I'm not interested in them, but the Trivection and Thermadors are not. The Thermador and Trivection are both 4.4 cu ft.

Houseful, we start demolition mid-Feb to mid-March, depending on when our contractor's current projects finish up. Then, I'm told, it will take about 8 weeks to complete our project--but we've all heard that before! :-) If it's done by July I'll be happy!

Imrainey, I assume your Thermadors were b/f Bosch/Siemens bought them out...I wonder if anything has changed reliability-wise?

Does anyone have any experience w/the new Thermadors? Noise? Reliability?

Are the CM-series of ovens the "old" ones that had widespread reliability issues (i.e., b/f Bosch/Siemens bought out Thermador)?

GE Profile Trivection owners, do you find the GE Profile has "plastic" parts...I read somewhere a while ago on a GW forum that Profiles had plastic where Monograms had metal...is this true? I would think plastic would melt w/high heat so it doesn't really make sense to me...unless they were talking about handles or other outside trim pieces...

Lsandler & other GE Monogram owners, are the handles plastic? I wish the ovens came with the "chunky" handles, but the Trivections don't seem to...just like they don't seem to have the full extension glides or self-cleaning racks that the other double ovens (convection) have :-(

I called GE Monogram this afternoon and after much research and talking w/several people, the conclusion they came to is that other than the "Monogram" name, the roasting pan, and the different look, the Profile and Monogram ovens are identical....they were actually a little defensive about it...they tried to convince me that the sleeker look of the Monogram and the name should be all it takes for me to spend the extra $1,000+. However, I don't like the current Monogram look--I much prefer the Profile look. If it came in the "new" Monogram look (chunkier handles, etc., I might think differently...but it doesn't).

So...it's down to the GE Profile or the Thermador...

Any other thoughts or comments?

I had a Thermador convection oven in my last house, and I loved it. It was quiet and never needed repairs. This was a double oven and I bought it about 10 years ago.

We've had the Monogram Trivection and Advantium ovens for about two years and they have worked very well for us. The Profile line is also very good and reliable, but I have no direct comparison experience. You will notice the exhaust sound on the Monogram, but I have no idea how it compares with the Thermador - my point is the Monogram is not silent. Checking the specs, I couldn't see much difference between the two, but the Profile apparently burns more Amps than the Monogram which really doesn't mean much other than there are some differences inside the units. FWIW the price difference appears to be in the $500 range rather than $1000 although a sale price could put it in that range. I'm sure you'll be happy with any of the three.

Thanks Lwim. DH & I talked it over tonight and we decided to go with the Profile. I like the look of the Profile so much better than the Monogram...I do like the new "chunkier" Monogram ovens, but the Trivection doesn't come in that style. I was actually leaning toward the Thermador, but DH gave me a reality check that we're over budget somewhat as it is and while he did get a bonus that will pay the difference b/w the convection & Trivection...it won't cover the diff b/w the convection & Thermador! (With college looming on the horizon in 4 years or so for DS and then 2 years later for DD, we don't want to go into debt...so we're definitely limited to "cash on hand".)

We appreciate your interest in the ZET3058SHSS-- it is a great appliance. However, there is no meat probe that comes with the appliance nor does it come with full extension racks.

The largest difference between the Profile and the Monogram appliances have to do with the aesthetics: the Monogram exterior is made to go with a luxury kitchen and the outside of the appliance reflects this. While the Profile also looks great, it is not necessarily made to fit in with a gourmet-style kitchen look.

So, there we have it, in "writing"...no interior workings/materials difference (as some have speculated on other threads)---looks is the primary difference.
