Dacor is one of the top rated ovens. Have had one 10 yrs, am likely putting another one in our new house...between that and a Miele. Only reason I didn't look at Wolf is that its self cleaning requires you to take out the rails, too big of a pain. I'd say Dacor is likely #2-3 rated oven, behind Gaggenau and Wolf.

I've got the KitchenAid Architect II (model KEBS207SSS). It has a convection upper and thermal lower. It seems to cook evenly and I love the rolling rack feature. I had a GE profile in the last house and hated it. It baked well, but it took forever to preheat and the convection fan in the back of the oven took up a ton of space. That was one of the things that was appealing about the KA - the flush convection fan. I actually took my measuring tape with me to measure usable space when oven shopping!

i researched this topic to death and went to 10-ish appliance stores and checked out every double oven i could find. i started out thinking i was going to get a frigidaire-yhis was before i did any research. then i saw the kitchenaid (keb208) and loved the rollouts and the blue interior. but it was not a very powerful oven
(check the specs) and although it looked "pretty" it did not have alot of special features. then i saw the electrolux--just gorgeous! but it was quite shallow in depth and width- and it did not have a meat probe. i really liked having all the racks rollout in the electrolux. so the search continued....

of course alot of salesmen recommended the wolf...but at $6200, it was way,way out of my league. the kitchen aid and electrolux were in the lower $2000's (frigidaire was under $2k). salesmen also liked the kitchenaid as well.

i checked out the GE monogram, jennaire, bosch and thermador. these were all going to be in the $2800-$3300 range. i found the thermador to be the most feature laden unit. it has a great speed convection setting and fast preheat. i don't find it noisy at all and it looks nice. it only had 1 rollout rack but i ordered another as an accessory. the bosch was 95% the same, but had 2 or 3 less features and an amber display instead of thermador's blue display.

all the double ovens i considered were 30" doubles with convection in both ovens. it was a very hard choice- the hardest of all the appliances....we are building a new house and had 9 appliances to buy. we bought them all at Plesser's in Babylon and they were awesome! Their price could not be beat. I went to other appliance stores, got their "best" price and Plesser's beat them all.

I would read previous threads about Dacor ovens (or any other ovens that you are considering) before you make your decision. I bought a Dacor Discovery oven and range( ER36D ) based on fairly recent experiences(products about 4-5 years old) that people I knew had had with Dacor, their previous reputation and the recommendation of several sales people. My experience with their products was extremely frustrating but at least they bought them back. Since I am looking for a new range and oven again, some of the appliance stores have admitted that they have had many problems with them. There is also a local cooking school that has Dacor ovens that are 2 years old that have many of the same problems I had and they cannot be fixed. Besides the programming issues, there were quality issues. The enamel came off in small sheets, not little chips. It did not seem to adhere well. The racks are poorly finished with sharp cut off edges on the underside. They brought a second oven. The door was on crooked and could not be fixed. It baked unevenly in convection settings Âmaybe the fan was crooked? The rubber on the temp probe split after avout 5 uses. The knob on my ER36D range broke too, as it is just plastic. Once it got to 350°, if you didnÂt open the door, it would hold the temperature of the empty oven exactly. The usual basic oven has about a 50° temperature swing. If set for 350°, as it cools the element should kick on at 325° and heat to 375° and then shut off. The Discovery oven is supposed to heat to temperature and then the element oscillates to keep the temp swing to 2° The main problem with the programming seems to be that once reaches the temperature set, it requires 150°(as reported by some) to as much as 200°-250° (my experience) temperature differential to kick in the element(preheating phase). This means on the lower side if you put in something cold or open the door frequently to bake cookies or appetizers the oven is not able to keep up with the heat loss and loses temperature. On the upper end if you need to raise the temperature by 100 degrees then it may take as long as 30 minutes to do that. My range actually took 60 minutes to raise 100°. It was suggested that this is so you donÂt burn your food. I have been baking for 45 years on all kinds of ovens and the preheat coming on has never burned my food. In fact, if the element comes on appropriately, it would just have to stay on a short time. If you wait to kick in the element until there is this huge temp differential then it has to stay on a long time. Dacor admitted this was a problem that they had "fixed", but new computer boards did not fix this issue. It is not easy to determine the problem at first because the oven does not read the actual temp once the preheat has kicked off, if you increase the temp it reads what you set it and not the real temp. It may be a totally different experience with the Dacor Classic ovens. Hopefully they will get the bugs worked out with the Discovery oven. They should have done that before putting on the market. They did offer me a third oven "that will be there with in the next week" That didnÂt happen and when no one from customer service would return my calls over a few weeks, I gave up on it and got the dealer that I bought it from to get them to buy both products back. It was wearing me out and with lost work and wages extremely expensive!

I think it really depends on which Dacor you're looking at. The less expensive ones had some bad reports here awhile back.

Have you looked at GE Monogram ZET2 (some negative reports recently), Electrolux, and Fisher&Paykel? (I don't remember anyone here sorry they have either of the latter 2) They should be in the approx price category, some less, than Thermador, I think. Of those, Electrolux should be least expensive and seems to be a very nice oven. We went with FP (still waiting to be installed)... I liked the cooking modes and the knobs vs touch panel.

We have enjoyed our Fisher Paykel double ovens for nearly a year. They heat up quickly, bake evenly, cool down slowly because they're so well insulated. The controls are great: the temp dial tells you what the temp is as it heats up and beeps when it reaches your pre-set temp. Love 'em! I suggest you check them out.

Dacor ??? When I inquired here I was warned by several posters to stay away from them? Have they cleaned up their act?
