Size handle for 36' integrated Sub Zero

We have purchased the Sub Zero fully integrated all fridge with two drawers (736 TR). It is being held in a warehouse so I don't have access to it. My builder told me to start thinking about hardware for all my cabinets, and this has me stumped . . . . along with the paneled dishwashers and the paneled KA fridge/freezer drawers!

If you have a paneled 36" fridge, what size handle did you use? Is 12" big enough? Too big? What about 15" or 18"? What did you do for the drawers - two smaller pulls or one large one?

Pictures would be super helpful!!!

I don't have the subzero, but i do have the integrated Liebherr. We went with 18" handles on the door and 12" handles on the drawers. 12" would have worked good enough on the doors, but i wanted a little better scale. Most examples we saw had 12" handles. Here's a not so great camera phone pic.

Any handle that you can get a good grip upon and which is securely screwed though the panel will work, especially if it's well located, fairly near the edge where the door opens. Everything else is just style.

I have integrated all fridge/all freezer and separate fridge drawers. For the fridge and freezer I went with 36" pulls because I wanted to make a statement. For the fridge drawers, I used 18" versions of the same pull, and put 7" ones on the regular drawers around it in the island. There's also an 18" on the DW and a 24" on the WD. The rest of the cabinets and drawers have knobs.

I like this mix of matching and still being identifiable as appliances due to the size.

Some people prefer to have the integrated appliances look just like the rest of the cabinetry so that you can't tell. It's not as good ergonomically, but it gives a uniform look which some folks find appealing.

BK - you are just flat out wrong wrong here. SZ makes their own fridges in their own factories, and about the only thing that is of Whirlpool design is the $50 ice maker unit that 60+% of the industry uses ! They fabricate their own steel and plastic cases, source their own, copper and glass, spray their own insulation , designed their own ethelyene filter, and on and on. Whirlpool wasn't even in the fridge business until a decade after SZ was producing theirs , and the only reason Whirlpool got in it was because of a merger. and, we all know about mergers. SZ has and these units in real homes for twelve plus months already , so they kinda know what is flawed with them. These also aren't just some half baked platform off the drawing board like your Maytag example. Further , Maytag ceases to exist because they were boneheads. Their Neptune debacle blew a hole in the ship, and the Amana acquisition enlarged it. And guess who picked up the pieces folks? Yep, BK's white knight and general do gooder, Whirlpool. Happy, I know it's a tough decision for you right now with this model change especially since they are different sizes. I would go for he new design, simply because that 7xx platform is almost twenty years old now and the 36" one is not the best size anyway. Have you considered one of the 36" ers from one of the Miele, Gaggenau, Thermador cousins? They are all top quality and roughly the same price as that 736. Available now and first of the year no changes, proven platform with nice features, and they integrate very smoothly.

I would stay in the range of 8" on center to 10" on center. I think it migth start to get more contemporary-looking than you want if you go much bigger.

Built-in can have cabinetry panels too. Models that are meant to be integrated are also built-ins. Flush Integrated means that the panels make a continuous plane with the rest of the cabinetry, and is more for Euro style frameless cabinets, though a good carpenter can make it slot into face frame or inset cabinets if you really want it to disappear. The cabinetry has to be constructed correctly to do this and requires precise measurements. It's much easier with full onsite custom than factory made. SubZero built-ins can actually be installed flush integrated, and there are even ways to hide the grill panel, but it limits the door swing, which makes getting the drawers out for cleaning more difficult. To make it easier to differentiate, SubZero calls the built-ins that aren't usually integrated "built-in" and the ones that are usually flush integrated "Integrated".

I personally have a 36" bottom freezer Thermador that is cabinet depth. What you lose in depth you gain in height in terms of storage capacity and the freezer is plenty roomy. So far, it hasn't been an issue, even after having a ton of holiday leftovers. Columns tend to have a sleeker look to them, so it's really just a trade-off depending on your aesthetic preferences. Unless your kitchen design demands the columns, I'd stick with the bottom freezer model.

Thanks for the picture! Who made your handles and knobs? We have a very traditional white inset kitchen too . . .

I have relatively small handle on my 36" miele integrated. The appliance guy told me any size is fine. The key is to get a pull that you can get your whole hand behind, not just your fingertips.

hi athensmom...the pulls are from Top Knobs - Somerset Weston collection and the knobs are from Amerock - Allison collection. We also have bin pulls on the drawers, also from Amerock
