LindaC: A question on Mason's 'Vista'
Comments (33)At one time I had a "catalog"....more like a few pages , of all the sizes and names and shapes of Mason's Vista. And I do believe the large platter I havew as the largest they had. The catalog I have? had is from the mid 1950's....maybe it's still in the bottom of a drawer somewhere> When we were first married, we had found a gift shop in Windsor Canada that had a large selection of Mason's pink vista. And we could order up to $10 worth duty free that would come in as unsolicited gift. And at that time a cup and saucer were $1.25 USD....and a dinner plate was $.90. I filled out my everyday use stuff that way. We were hard on sandwich plates and cereal bowls> Just looking at my picture from 13 years ago and my cupboard now....and think I have added 2 coupe soup plates> I have platters in several places....I will have to dig them out and measure and see just what I have...See MoreMason's Vista Pink
Comments (6)Oh my!!!! I have a house full of the stuff! But am not really looking for more but perhaps for the luncheon plates. Mason's Pink Vista has been around for a lot of years...the early pieces didn't do well in the dishwasher, they discolored. Unless you really luck out by finding someone with deep pockets and a desire for a complete set, you will be money ahead by piecing it out on eBay or consigning to a local antiques shop. Comments (32)Oh gosh, DD, you've mentioned that No-No phrase again . . . "Dish Pantry"!! Be still my heart! Now you've gotten me coveting my the broom closet, the powder room or the guest room for one of my own ;^D What did you give up to get yours? It was a closet, wasn't it? A nice long, shallow one? (Sigh!) I don't have an attic or basement. If I'd found this forum before we had the kitchen gutted and redone, I would have added one without a doubt. I'm envious of anyone having enough space to keep their accent pieces with their dishes. Mine are scattered all over the house. My sweet 99 y/o Chinese boy is now relegated to the game table in our living room until I need him for my next tablescape. My santo angel is on the cabinet in our MBR. My Three Kings santos had a run-in with our dobie and two had their heads broken. I'm in the process of mending them now. I do wish I had a safe place to store things like that, but I don't. DH said he'd like a wine cellar, but our smartie-pants 15 y/o DD remarked snidely that it would be a waste, as "Mom would just fill it up with more dishes". I hate to admit it, but she's probably right! Lynn...See MoreWhere to find pasta plates
Comments (25)I'll skip Sur La Table (too expensive) and Vietri (I prefer rims), but Dollar Tree and Ikea look promising! Jessica, I told Kevin to buy those plates for me - it wasn't his idea at all! I think we are going to wait a while before buying a whole set of dishes because when we went shopping, we saw too many sets for Halloween and Thanksgiving, and I don't like autumn colors for dishes. We'll probably shop again in February. In the meantime, we should have some nice Italian pasta plates from eBay, providing they arrive intact! We did go to Home Goods (which is part of TJMaxx in our neighborhood), and we bought Margarita glasses, sheet sets, bed pillows, and towels there for half what they cost at BB&B. I wish I had known about that store before! We also went to the new Kohl's store that opened last month in the same strip mall (that also has Trader Joe's and our Ralphs marker), and I bought some steak knives there that I'd been wanting. I don't use them for steak - I wanted them to cut burritos, which I make fairly often, and which are too hot and/or awkward to pick up and eat. I made so-called breakfast burritos for dinner lately, and they seemed like a perfectly good dinner and didn't remind me of breakfast at all, even though they contained scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese, bean dip, and cooked potatoes. After I made them, I discovered that we needed sharp knives to cut them and eat them. Thanks so much for the Home Goods tip - even though I didn't like their dishes! Their Margarita glasses were just $7.99 for a set of 4, but I'm going to have to take it easy on the Margaritas. Two was all we could handle, and they were fairly small glasses.
