One place to check that might get you an idea of their worth is e-Bay.
I've had very good success selling magazines on e-Bay (although not as old as yours)

thanks for the quick response. Yep, I've tried EBAY (always my first place). No listings current or completed that go back into the early 1910's.

I was hoping maybe for a list (year by year), kinda like you might find for coins or stamps. I guess old sewing magazines aren't as dazzling as coins :)

One hot thing on eBay is TATTING:

I sold a couple of old needlework magazines by making sure to list the projects. Had I been THINKING, I would have scanned the magazines, burned a CD and sold the CDs.

I've got over 100 of these. I was going to put them up for sale as one huge lot. But I'm thinking in the long run, it might be better to list each one seperately (that is..if I have the inclination to spend that much time)

What has been your experience? More valuable to sell them individually?

If you sell one big lot....you will be selling them to someone who likely will re-sell them one or 2 at a time. Why not do that yourself?

I found that taking my time with the listings, getting a couple of GOOD scans, and listing some of the more intersting projects and articles resulted in final bids that were 2-3x higher than the bids on less well-described magazines of the same issue. I wrote a brief "oh WOW" paragraph for the most interesting article ... in one it was how to cover your parlor floor with cheap cloth and keep the bugs out ... :)

My listing triumph was selling a 1960s cookbook for $20 where the highest previous sales price was under $6 ... a good description made it sound as good as it really was.

Make sure you mention WHAT Needlecrafts are in each magazine ... you can set up a template and minimize the effort, but make sure your listing mentions each of the crafts. "Irish Lace", BTW, is crochet.

PROVIDED that you aren't selling last June's "O" magazines, individual sales can be more money.

Have you ever noticed that some things are worth more as broken-off....ripped out...disassembled...disemboweled pieces rather than the sum-of-the-parts??

I'm considering (and I almost feel it would be Sacrilidge) to tear out all the old cream-of-wheat ads, Campbell soup ads, Bayer aspirin ads, etc etc. from all of my Needlecraft magazines and sell them individually for $4.99 EACH. The thing is, they do infact SELL for that on ebay! But you'd be hard pressed to sell the whole pristine magazine for $3.

I'm getting all these needlecraft magazines photographed and organized for posting on EBAY, and they all have such wonderful vintage ads. This lucky strike cigarette ad takes the cake!!

I'm hesitant to sell it, I wanna frame this ad and stick it on my wall..."Luckies are always kind to your throat"????? UNBELIEVABLE!!!

This is long after the fact. I prefer to buy lots of these type of magazines. Please do not cut out the ads, it ruins the vintage patterns. I bought a lot of 40 from someone once. The covers and ads were missing from some. I buy them for the vintage patterns. I never paid more than $3-4 per issue when I did buy them singlely. I have about all I want for now. I have some 1910. There is less of what I want in the 1930's and on but someone else might want them. :-) Gina
