Experience with Flor carpet tiles?
Comments (3)I purchased FLOR carpet tiles from this outlet on-line (though the outlet will not tell you which ones are from FLOR). I am pleased with the product. The tiles are fairly heavy, but they could slip, just like an area rug on concrete. You can always use a non skid spray on the back of the tiles, or a few pieces of double-faced carpet tape from a big box store to keep the edges in place if necessary. Make sure you order extra tiles just in case. The tiles are durable enough that I have used my pressure washer hose outdoors to clean them when I have had a spill. Comments (12)I like the rug you picked out and think it would look great in a boy's bedroom, I don't think it says "outdoor rug" at all. (Did you see the "Organic Blocks" rug? I think that one's pretty sharp and very masculine.) Polypropylene is very practical because it's very difficult to stain and you can just haul it out on the deck or driveway and hose it down to clean, there's no fussing, and it's usually nice and soft underfoot. Most of the rugs I've had were polypro because of pets and my own clumsiness (I spill things a lot), it's only recently that I have had wool and that's primarily because I found a couple of wool rugs I liked very cheap at Home Decorators Collection outlet! We used carpet tiles in our previous house (DH was adamant about having carpet in the bedroom and with a middle-aged cat and a dog modular carpeting was the only thing I would consider!) and I found the FLOR tiles to be pretty hard and uncomfortable, like office carpet, and many of the styles were very scratchy even though they were described as soft in the catalog - make sure you get samples. I ended up choosing Milliken's carpet tiles which are more like conventional carpet in feel. Although they're not on the website, Lowes has a few FLOR styles, including some exclusives; I don't know if they're actually FLOR brand but Target has some similar carpet tiles at a pretty decent price. Another option is replacing the casters on the roll-out drawers and desk chair with soft rubber or polyurethane ones that do not damage wood floors. Check out Caster City, Gary's Upholstery Supply, CoolCasters, Rockler.com, just for starters....See MoreTape or other adhesive for Flor carpet tiles?
Comments (17)Great info on Flor dots alternatives. They have held my tiles together for 16 years. I have another dilemma, though. Hopefully it's okay to ask it here. Unfortunately I did not read that carpet tiles could not be installed over the sealant on my concrete floors, nor did I realize that there is a sealant on the floor. I have wanted to redecorate my floors but am stymied by not being able to remove all the tiles. Does anyone have an idea on what to use to break the "forever seal" between the tiles and the floor. Some tiles came up easily while others are holding on tight whether they are a whole tile or partially torn tile. I have used most cleaning fluids, alcohol, vinegar, baking soda concoctions, etc. I'd prefer to not have to use a varnish remover, but that might be the only solution. Someone suggested a heat gun which I have not tried yet. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thank you!...See MoreCleaning Flor tiles
Comments (13)We take the Flor tile up as soon as the accident happens. I take it to the sink or shower, and flush it with room temp water for 5 or 6 minutes. I flush it then with white vinegar and let it sit for about 10 minutes, then rinse with water again. I let it dry outside in the wind and shade for about 24 hours. No smells left. We have water resistant laminate under the Flor, and so far the urine has never gone through to that surface. If you are not watching for your dog's cues and letting him out regularly, shame on you. Make it a practice to walk him every time you go to the potty, and you'll be well on the way. If incontinence or laziness (or not being willing to use the dog door when it's raining, like one of ours) is really the issue, and a dog door is not feasible, and you're not willing to make sure he goes out 1) every time he wakes up and 2) after he eats, and 3) after or during playtime, go back to what worked for the puppy--find a place in the house for your dog to potty, get puppy pads or a small vinyl kiddie swimming pool (on sale at Walmart now), line it with newspapers, and use a paper towel to collect some of his urine and feces the next time you all are out. It won't take much. His nose is incredibly powerful, and I hope yours isn't. Put it in the pool. Now, confine your dog, for a while, wake him up from a nap, watching him the whole time, and feed him, watching him every minute. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DOG UNTIL HE STARTS TO LOOK FOR A PLACE TO POTTY. Scoop him up, or guide him to the pool, use your regular potty word, and wait till he goes. PRAISE AND TREAT. Lather, rinse and repeat. In other words, keep it up until he's got it. Always leave just a scrap or two of soiled newspaper until he is reliable in the pool. If it's spite tinkle, he gets to be in his crate unless you can pay attention to your dog every minute he's out of the crate. You do have a crate, and use it, right? RIGHT!?! Then take him to walk or to the yard, wait till he goes, and praise and treat when he goes in the right place. And remember, if you don't catch him in the act in the house, the only one who is scolded is you for not paying more attention. It's too late to correct him at that point. Have fun. Enjoy your dog AND your Flor tiles. P.S. Naturess Miracle works great for us, too, if we have something that cannot go into the wash or the sink. No affiliation...yet. P.P.S. I'm not a professional dog trainer--just a successful amateur with many years experience with my own dogs. If you don't like what I've suggested, ignore it,. This is a no whining zone, even for the dogs....See Moreiinsic
