Wind catcher: Today i finished it up. I found a good used deck belt, came from a friend who has around 30 or so Cubs in his back yard, and then i got to installing it. BUT---there were things in the way! So, i called Uncle Joe George, who is a local whiz on Cubs, and he came over and helped me put the belt on. Now, you can imagine how many parts were messed up, bent, out of adjustment, all that, but i finally got it together and i chased leaves for an hour. I'll take it back tomorrow or Sat. And, that'll probably be the last one until spring. Thanks to all for the help they have furnished on the stuff i had troubles with, and i'll be here copying the mail. Just had a visit by my bone-crusher Dr. of chiropractory, who came to pay his bill. He told me to keep on working-ain't no future in sitting down and dieing of boredom! And--who would fix his stuff?

Melis - that is one beautiful Staub! Why don't you use it? Mine Staub is a basic round with a standard lid but I have a LC oval. Scrappy - as others have said - the oval works just fine. I have used mine on my Wolfie and it worked great. I braised with it and even used as a slow cooker on my induction. One time, I was using as a slow cooker but was chicken to leave it alone while I ran to the store, so I popped it into my speed oven on high warm and found out I have another option for a slow cooker.

I have one, I would think if you oiled it with some vegetable oil it would work. Then put the burner on high with the vent fan on. But, definitely post your question there before you try that.

The stains are probably a mixture of mineral build up and micro scratches in the porcelain finish that gives the minerals a place to hide. Micro scratches are usually caused by over-zealous cleaning with a scouring powder like Ajax or Bon Ami. Don't ever use scouring powder (or a scouring pad) on an enamel sink. Use a cleaner recommended by the sink manufacturer or Bar Keeper's Friend to deep clean a sink. If you do your daily maintenance, deep cleaning should rarely be needed. Remove the mineral stains with an acid cleaner. We see recommendations that vinegar be used, but household vinegar is not in a high enough concentration to work well. Try a cleaner formulated especially for mineral build-up in enamel-ware. Kohler has several. If that does not work, try a pumice scouring bar like Pumie to remove the worst of the staining, then the acid cleaner on the rest. Easy with the pumice bar. You don't want to add to the micro-scratches. Many light strokes are better than a few heaver strokes. If that does not work, we use an auto-body buffer and a mild buffing compound to remove the stains and polish the enamel surface. This eliminates the micro-scratches and restores to surface to a nice shine. Body buffers are cheap - a lot cheaper then new sinks. Pick up a Wen on line at Amazon or a buffer at Harbor Freight for under $30.00. The buffing compound is available at any auto parts store. Look for one formulated for electric buffers. Old enamel was so thick that the surfaces of old sinks and tubs can usually be restored several times. We recommend regular restoration every 100 years or so.
