After a similarly fruitless search for information in November and December, my wife and I decided to take the plunge and risk the 36" pro harmony with six gas burners on top, as part of a double-kitchen renovation for a two family house. After seven months of construction zone purgatory, we have finally moved into the owner's unit and I am looking at the aforementioned range as we speak. So far I can say that I'm pretty sure that the periodic lighting of the fire for the extra low burners is not going to be bothersome, you do hear a clicking but it isn't obnoxiously loud. I'm also not particularly bothered by the fan sound of the oven yet. But this thing is pretty much fresh out of the box, and our ventilation unit still hasn't been installed yet, so I'm not ready to do large scale cooking projects on this baby yet. Will post further when I do have the benefit of more experience.

We are renovating our not-large kitchen and have settled upon a 30-inch slide-in range to get better pot capacity on the stove without moving to a 36 inch. I hate to cook - really, I dread it - so I'm thinking that a true pro-style (wolf, viking) is just not worth the $$ or hassle of maintenance. The Kitchen Aid range seems sturdy, but I haven't seen it perform. I've also heard that there is a KA Pro style range, that might or might not be worth the extra $$. Today, we saw a Kenmore range that seems perhaps the teensiest bit nicer than the KA ... but again, not sure on performance. Any feedback? Any other brands or styles I should be considering? Also - worth it to get dual fuel or just gas? Will I hate cooking less? (one of the things I hate is that my gas oven never seems to cook things in the time the recipe says, and yes I have an oven thermometer)

Thermador is a part of the same group of appliances as Gaggenau and Bosch, a German conglomerate. GE was bought by Haier, a Chinese manufacturer with a decent reputation, though not high end. I like German appliances and cars myself.

i really like the Thermador brand and we bought the 48" Harmony gas range. We've had it about 6 months now, and I just found out that ambient temp is reading about 25 degrees higher than what it is set at. Also, my probe stopped working which is the reason i was using another thermometer in the oven. Has anyone experienced this? I'm also a little disappointed that the broil function has only one setting which gets very hot. My old Wolf range had low/med/high so i could control the broil better. i have a tech coming in next 2 weeks but wanted to find out if anything has had any issues with their gas range. The things i like about the Thermador are the star burners, the smooth sliding racks, and i like the griddle that we have as well. Very easy to clean since it's nonstick.
