Hi all. despite my not getting a picture I hope you can help. I'm in coastal Maryland in a heavily wooded suburbs with a lot of natural water around. I maintain three feeders year round and usually have a sharpie hanging around every couple of weeks. Yesterday around sunset I had a hawk that flew into my yard, perched with it's back to me then went to a neighbor's yard and did the same thing so most of what I saw was from the back. It's size was about the same as a very large crow with wings (when in flight) that appeared larger. Back feathers were a mottled brown. It's tail was rather short and square with faint white markings, not the clear band (or length) of a coopers. When it shifted and turned slightly I could see reddish feathers on the outer parts of it's belly and breast. I could not see it's feet or eyes..just the head backlight when it turned to look around. When it flew the undersides of the wings that I could see were reddish tan. The sharpie I usually see is no bigger than a mourning dove. Any ideas?
